Our under 19's captain is heading to Hull at the weekend to look around the Club with a view to possibly signing.

He'd prefer to stay at ER but the offer from Hibs isn't good enough at this stage.

  8. #1237
Goal Hibs - O’Connor finishes from close range after Motherwell failed to clear a Hamilton corner. Hibs 1, Motherwell 0

Hull made him an offer in the Jan window too. I like him. Real shame if he goes.

Half time - Hibs 1, Motherwell 0. O’Connor’s goal the difference; Laidlaw missed a penalty shortly before HT given for a foul on McCulloch.

    Full time Iceland u17 0-0 Scotland u17.

I'm guessing his future pathway will be discussed at the weekend, that's why he'll be going down there.

So we spent stupid money on Hauge, Melkerson, Jair etc in the summer but cant raise the money to pay one of our better (and already a known quantity) U19s.

    That seems utterly ridiculous.

To be perfectly honest i agree with the sentiment, but if we'd just bought the right players and they were raging successes, i dont think we'd botther our arse about this.

Although saying that, Aiken does look a great prospect and one i'd like to see given more of an opportunnity, but managers live and die by their results, and younger players who we sign from abroad and the likes, have to be better than what we are bringing through.

If not, what is the point?

It’s not a case of not being able to raise the money, Hibs could easily pay him what he wants but they presumably don’t think he is worth it. He’s a known quantity at U18/U19 level but it’s far from known whether he could make that jump to senior football. The club also has to consider the future pathways of those coming along after him - both Jacob MacIntyre and Rudi Molotnikov have greater potential than Murray Aiken IMO, if Aiken is given a large long term contract, how does that impact the potential pathway of those players?

Connor Young. Pretty sure he went to a lower league, possibly non league club recently.

Edit - He's at East Fife

It's been well known for a while that Aiken is probably going to Hull. Personally I don't think we will miss him.

I thought that Hibs offered a standard contract to the young guys they are keeping on when their first pro-youth type contracts expire as they turned 18, no deviation from the contract script for anyone?

That's the way it should be , they earn the right to earn more once they start having an impact.

He’s got a great attitude, but realistically, do we need a young unproven guy playing in our current midfield, probably not, the pathway would be to sign a new contract , play out on loan, prove yourself and get a new improved contract.
But giving out a bigger contract now, would restrict other good players getting a chance from the year below.
Hopefully if he goes, we get a development fee, and he gets on well, but not many other occupations are leaving one of the best cities in europe, to go to Hull. 😄
