    Marina Hyde, bless her.

Johnson, who last told the truth during the Reagan administration – and then only accidentally – has somehow got the government to fund state-of-the-art lawyers to prove he wasn’t aware of parties happening in his own house, attended by his own self, against his own rules, and in at least one case against his own laws, having gone on telly every single night to tell people that compliance to the letter of said rules and laws was a matter of life and death. Please bear this in mind if you tune in to his appearance tomorrow afternoon, along with the question: does our country have a path to dignity? Because this ain’t it.

Seems the norm that they collude to tell lies, same tone comes from Matt Hancock whatsapps - sling the press a line and those journalists who are soft on them go with while those who wish to hold them to account are shouted down.

    Chief advisor:

It seems like the Boris administration didn’t really understand the difference between parliamentary private secretaries, who are backbench MPs moving and shaking and acting like a personal gopher and sidekick, as well as an impromptu whip, and a principal private secretary like Mr Case above, who are career civil servants and should have been above party ‘discipline’. It seems incredible that some of these people in Boris’ inner circle were so indiscrete and blindly assumed that the civil service would go along with the ‘omerta’ policy.

    Strong and stable.

    NEW This is hugely significant.

DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has told the ERG today that the DUP will not rejoin power-sharing in Northern Ireland, Tory MPs say

I try and see the best in people generally, honestly.

But I find it near-impossible not to think the DUP are at least partially using the EU issue to avoid their real reluctance for power-sharing. Namely a Sinn Fein first minister sitting at Stormont.

They'd do anything to avoid a Sinn Fein first minister.

I wonder if anyone in his corner really, truly believes this garbage. I completely understand why his acolytes talk themselves into believing him, at least publicly. But deep down they all must know he’s a liar, lying about his lying. I’d like to think if a politician I was supportive of was just out and out lying like this, I would acknowledge the undeniable.

I have that feeling when I think about them too... deep down they simply want UK rule fully in place, not sure they ever wanted devolution... as it stands they've got exactly what they want.

Sometimes I think hell mend them, start the assembly up again, and they can turn up And take part or not.... problem is the idiots might start up again
