You know how they say you should never hit “send” on an e-mail when you’re angry?

It strikes me as something someone might submit whilst they’re angry (see my posting history in the immediate aftermath of derby defeats) before they’ve had a chance to calm down, think about what they’re trying to say and write it down in a coherent fashion.

It probably appeals most to the “permanently raging” demographic who relate to the sentiment.
I take the "permanently raging" tone as a given from that organ.

I don't think it's heartfelt most of the time though, it's a clever journalististic tone hoping to transfer its tone to the reader. Hacks hack words together.

If his contract doesn't have any reference to a social media policy then the BBC doesn't have a leg to stand on. If it does then they have a problem. I suspect there is ambiguity with freelancers as opposed to employees.
You might find this 2021 interview with Lineker interesting.

Thanks. It is. As an aside, I think Ros Atkins is a terrific presenter and journalist.

That shouldn't be taken seriously as he's probably just like other high profile presenters, some of whom have done dreadful things, and the content is obviously lefty, celebrity, virtue signalling to enhance his own feelings about himself which the British people are sick of so we shouldn't speak out about the politics surrounding vulnerable people or climate change as its just trying to look "right-on", some would have us believe.

I think there's sarcasm in this? Would you be as supportive of his rights if he had praised the proposed legislation?

You weren't directing this question at me, but I would be supportive of his right to speak. I'd be hugely disappointed in him, if he praised the proposed legislation, but I'd support his right to his views. There's any number of people that I previously followed who have disappointed me with their political views recently - Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey for starters.

There is not a hint of sarcasm there.

I don't think I've ever sanctioned stopping someone saying what they want on whatever platform they choose.

I know what you mean. Van Morrison is a brilliant but troubled guy. Daltrey has the puzzlement of a multi millionaire who really can't see what the issue is about. But Clapton has had such an easy ride, doubling down on it for years with no apparent consequence.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting you had. I was just checking in if you were OK if he has expressed pro government views. And you are!

Iirc, Linekar was pro-brexit and was full of congratulations towards Boris Johnson, a known liar, on his election to PM. I don't agree with those views but don't think that sums him up as a person.

I don't think so. He was pro 'people's vote'. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-44957901

    I recalled incorrectly..

Fact remains there is plenty out there from BBC peeps which I will disagree with. I can discuss that or disagree but I don't go crying for them to be shut up.

He is paying for it, as is often the case. So I guess this is a pop at him being rich rather than a scandal?

It is a scandal that someone in his position is PM. He hasn't a scooby about real life.

When you read the headline and sub-heading you're left wondering how it's even deemed newsworthy.

He's the leader of a government that has forced hundreds of thousands of people into fuel poverty and forcing them in some instances to choose between food and heating and you see no injustice in this?

I think the income disparity in the UK is awful. But the story was spun as if it was a scandal. In fact it's an observation on him being rich. I think it's legitimate to question why people are so wealthy. The next question is what, if anything, you do about it?

So what 'lived experience' is essential be PM, or FM for that matter?

I wonder if the same will be said about Yousaf if he gets the gig. 13,000 a year education. Never had a job bar "working" for the SNP

Being a mega millionaire reluctant non-green card holder with a billionaire reluctant not non-dom wife is light years beyond any line that can be drawn.

He represents a tiny fraction of 1% and hasn't the slightest inkling of the real life of the country.

Edit: ken green card does not indicate wealth, just chucked it in as showing a disconnect with the UK

Sunak is a "sovereign individual", a citizen of anywhere he can access his cash.

He's paying to extend the national grid to provide power for his newly-built personal heated swimming pool, at a time when people are struggling to heat their homes and feed their families. To add further to the inequality, public swimming baths in the local area are having to reduce their opening hours or even close because they can't afford to heat the pools.

If you can't see why someone this rich should be nowhere near the role of PM then I can't help you. He has no idea what the daily lives are like of the people he is responsible for. It's obscene.

I wouldn't bloody vote for him for a start.

I want to see the power base of the country shift so that it would be as unthinkable for someone like him to be PM as it would a convicted armed robber.

It not that I don't think his wealth is obscene. I don't know how you would disbar people from office who are acting legally.

A laughable opinion in this country at this time. I suppose it depends on your sense of humour though, laughable or tragic - tragi-comedy.

You don't think it's remotely newsworthy in a left leaning paper that a private individual, effectively a "public servant" can afford to upgrade the local electricity grid and pay to have a private swimming pool heated at a time when public swimming pools are having to reduce their opening hours in order to make ends meet?
