One of my mates was at the Spartans v Dundee Utd game today and they had a wee bit in their programme about the 'Capital Cup'. Basically saying that they accept Hibs v Hearts will always be the more recognidlsvale rivalry thanks to the history behind it but if said cup included all 3 Edinburgh teams the league table (prior to today's game)would read:
Spartans 7 points +2 goal difference
Hibs 2 points -1 goal difference
Hearts 1 point -1 goal difference
That's really nowhere near good enough from both Hibs and Hearts.

So a few thoughts from today:
- The Capital Cup is a bollocks idea (especially as Spartans aren't a part of it). For me the last two derbies represent 4 points dropped. I didn't care we won the penalty shoot-out last time and means nothing now. I agree with my brother when he says it only serves to make a player feel like ***** for missing, and Shiv looked distraught, for a meaningless corporate cup. The points were what mattered today.
- I think Gibson set the team out right, looked like a we dominated the game and were the far better team, they were left playing balls over the top and trying to get something from a set-piece. However, that's where they scored from. Gibson needs to have a plan for dealing with set-pieces at that point in the game when, as my mate pointed out, they would be landing balls on the keeper. Ultimately, it's up to the coach how a team organises at a set-piece. Even if it was bollocks ref decision for a free kick that led to the corner.
- Haaland is a drop in quality from Gabby English. Intent on always punching, which is fine if she has a punch that clears it from the danger area, but she doesn't.
- Hearts were lucky before the KO. Smally, Thomas, and Parry, being out, was a massive hinderence (not a slight to Leishman she was solid but didn't get forwards as much and we were lop-sided, but she hasn't has much game time this season but worked her socks off), and if we had any of them available I think we would have won.
- Hearts are well-coached, better coached than us, but as described on a View from the Terrace on Friday as being well disciplined and hard to break down is just a nice way of saying boring. For them to make 4 changes, and us none, even with a bare bones squad was very bad game management.
- I know the home team always gets POTM, but it was clearly Katie Lockwood. Looks like a really clever player and we've done well to get her.

Livingstone and Adams are still really young, even Micky and Eddie etc. aren't that old. Plus we have the experience, and some pretty good signings from elsewhere. Although I don't think we're getting the best out of the latter for the most part, which again is a coaching issue.
There's defo players I'd pinch from them if it was possible, but them planning to got FT next season probs negates that. Which make sit more pressing that the leadership is right next season.
They discussed Pedro Losa on AVFTT on Friday and asked the question why hasn't there been more criticism, and the same applies to Hibs women in my book, and they wondered if people are being too nice in their judgement of expectations.

Thought Hibs keeper Haaland looked really poor.
Not flexible or reflexive enough for a keeper. Unnecessary punching of the ball.
When clearly injured and limping, the coach should have subbed her for the pens.
Generally I thought Hibs ran the midfield for 65 out of the 90 mins.
Good atmosphere and decent crowd. Both sets of fans sitting together in many areas. How it should be.
Watching woman’s football and the vibe generally is bringing something a bit fresh to the game.

As for the game itself .... It was agreed that Hibs were significantly weakened by injuries and the lack of even a full subs bench bore that out. It has to be said after all the pre match hype over Hearts that our ladies performed extremely well, so much so we dominated the first half and in spite of their continental coaches talk about passing football in the pre match preamble the second half tactic seemed to be lump the ball up in the air into the box no matter where you are on the park ..... The Hibs lassies fought their hearts out and a draw was a great result which could have been better with a bit more quality in the final third. Who cares about the pens, always a lottery.

Hearts were awful 1st half yesterday- Hibs fine but not exactly that fluid. The finish for the goal was the main bit of decent quality but the rest all pretty average.
Watched the Celtic v Rangers game and was impressed how slick Celtic were.
Hibs recruitment and style of play is hard to understand. I used to enjoy watching Hibs women play years ago but now its hard to see what they are trying to do. I don’t think Hearts look well coached but they have a better structure with worse players.
There always seems to be post match excuses from Hibs but at the end of the day the coaching staff and players (the back line especially) need refreshed if they want to progress.

Also Capital Cup? Where do you draw the line as plenty other Edinburgh teams.
I don’t understand why Hibs didn’t have any young players on bench? Haven’t seen any youth players promoted during the season.

Yesterday was mad, 4 outfield players on the bench, all signed or re-signed this season and not one of them used.

Although I have no idea what is up with Thomas as the club hasn't communicated anything regarding her, and they must know the extent of Smally's injury by now but I also haven't heard any more on that one.

He couldn't put any subs on because there weren't any. Terrible run of injuries atm, we only barely had 11 players fit.

Very poor from Hibs against 3rd bottom Aberdeen.
With it goes any chance of 5th placed Hibs catching 4th placed Hearts who beat 4th bottom Dundee Utd.

Wonder what the excuses will be following tonight’s 0v0. Injures again or simply poor management. Watched it online and really struggled at times to see what they are trying to do. Will feel like a win for Aberdeen midweek away from home.

Aberdeen picking up their 1st point in the last five games, very poor result against the side sitting 3rd bottom, maybe beat 2nd bottom Hamilton on sunday who have also only picked up one point from their last five games
4th is now gone, they made sure of that by blowing the lead against hearts and then that showing last night, changed days indeed
game against celtic a week on sunday live on Alba, should see lots of goals anyway

Much better today but been undone by inconsistency, lost goals we shouldn't have, lost games we shouldn't have.
Still that looks like a good win for City against one of the uglies.

A 2-0 loss to a strong Celtic side at Meadowbank today. A good performance from Hibs though, Celtic just made the most of their chances in the first half.

Hibs into the top 6 split just ahead of 2 part time teams 2 points ahead of Motherwell and 1 ahead of Partick Thistle. Injuries to some of our better players appear to have hurt us.Last edited by PHeffernan; 13-03-2023 at 12:45 AM.
