Without the Irish War of Independence fought between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) & the British there would be no Irish Republic, hardly surprising that their supporters are republicans & may sing the odd ditty of that nature, every country celebrates its national heroes, myths etc, not least us Scots, only seems to be a problem when it's Ireland.
I get that I was just responding to the questions which songs were sung. That sort of song is never going to get a great reaction in Scotland.

You really can't get why people find that offensive?

You think that the singing of that song relates to the original IRA and dates back to 1919 etc?

    OK then.............

I actually suspect that they are actually singing it because they are a bunch of dafties glorying in the more recent troubles.

Which marks them out as ********s in my book (in exactly the same way as anyone glorying in the UVF etc would).

You’d think the Scottish fans could unite as one, really poor!

I remember going to watch Scotland in the 70’s and 80’s, Kenny Dalglish didn’t get a very warm reception from a lot of Scotland fans, as he played for Celtic, and the Rangers element in the Scotland support didn’t like him

It would seem that booing at football is OK sometimes, but not at others, based on the past 2 weeks.

Good chance Porteous will start next week now? McKenna out of the squad.

    Resorting to insults, nice.

So what Irish songs would be acceptable in your mind? National anthem & fields of Athenrye clearly offended some last night, as any remotely patriotic/nationalistic Irish songs would in this country.

Why? Are any of them Gaelic speakers?

What about broad urban Scots, that would be more appropriate.

The big difference is that Welsh speakers in Wales vastly outnumber Gaelic speakers in Scotland.

Over 20% of people in Wales can speak Welsh but Gaelic is only spoken by around 1% of people in Scotland and outside the Western Isles it's barely spoken at all.

Suppose with England and Wales both relegated to the 2nd tier, the whole of the UK will be supporting Scotland in our attempts to be promoted to the 1st tier.

Supporting a nation who don't even want to be part of the UK? 😅

Porto has to be in the frame for a start in Poland, surely. Fingers crossed he puts in the performance he can and shuts the Boo Crew up, plenty booing last night round us which was piss poor.

That Craig Gordon save btw, wow, and I comment as I've just read that he was up all night as his Mrs had just given birth.

They'll just be saying we should forfeit to Ukraine again.
