We've not won in Ireland for over 20 years, hopefully that changes at the weekend.
And Ireland haven’t won a game in a while too. 😅

They've not beaten a team ranked higher than them in a competitive fixture for nearly five years!

    What could possibly go wrong!?

How on earth did Ireland lose to them?
I watched it, they were abysmal.

I’m not sure what else we could’ve done tbh, Armenia set out to defend with every man behind the ball, we pressed them high up the pitch and scored two good goals.
Agree thought we were good and should have scored a couple more a decent win and performance.

How many times have we played them in that period 2 or so. Think need to win in Ireland to do well in this group. Away to Armenia won't be easy given it will be played in extreme heat.

9 points after 3 games would be excellent.

We've played 3 times in Ireland since then - two defeats and a draw.

The heat in Armenia shouldn't be too bad, the game kicks off at 8pm local time and it's currently forecast to be 22°C in Yerevan at that time which hopefully shouldn't cause too many issues.

    Turkey straddles both.

    But Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan etc?

It's ludicrous that these countries are included.
Of course it is. Football is a funny old game.
Didn't Australia get to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest one year? That was the slippery slope.

couple of years back the Copa America tournament included Qatar and Japan!

Former Soviet Union states though, when the Soviet Union split up, the former states to the west of the Caspian Sea joined UEFA and the states to the east joined the AFC. Kazakhstan subsequently joined UEFA.

The border between Europe and Asia is an imaginary line drawn using social and historical conventions, but considering Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey/Turkiye and Kazakhstan technically straddle the two continents then I don't see why they can't be part of UEFA.

Armenia is fully in Asia, but at a guess I would imagine they see themselves as more culturally connected to Europe rather than Asia given their history as a Soviet Republic.

Interestingly some people class Cyprus as being in Asia and not Europe although I don't think many people have an issue with them being in UEFA.

Israel play in UEFA because a lot of the west Asian countries would refuse to play them, so it's probably more about keeping peace than anything else.

Wow. Republic pumped by Armenia the other night and NI losing to Kosovo.

What’s up with Irish football these days?

That will be Northern Ireland's 13th match in the Nations League and they've yet to win a game.

    Their opponents;

    Austria × 4
    Bosnia × 2
    Norway × 2
    Romania × 2
    Greece × 1
    Cyprus × 1
    Kosovo × 1

A solid strategy. Intentionality get relegated to group D for an easy route into Euro 2028.

Group D doesn't get a place in Euro 2024 (unless all teams in Group C qualify through their qualifying group) so I'm assuming Euro 2028 will be the same.

Kosovo are half decent personally expected them to beat Northern Ireland especially at home. A lot of the older better players have retired recently

Our U21s are truly awful. A better opposition would be 4 or 5 up by now. Headless chickens and zero threat!
Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity. All it takes is a little push.
