Some speculation on twitter among journos that the 54 letters is very close or already breached and Brady of the '22 will be calling a confidence vote when parliament returns.
Also Johnson's approval has gone -ve among Tory members as surveyed by ConservativeHome. MPs not ****ing it from their members makes no confidence in Johnson more and more likely.
One of only 2 other Tories with a -ve approval? Good old Doogie the Lino.

Leadsom now, shes not in the Cabinet but she's still a big hitter politically. I think the Big Top is about to collapse on top of the circus performers.

Id say in the next day or so, Johnson will reach the magic number. Then it gets interesting.

They would be mad to put in a new leader just now. Inflation is going to rise for the next 9 months, who ever comes in is going to be presiding over a horrible time.
For that reason and johnson deserving everything he gets, I hope they do

I'd imagine they were pinning their hopes on 'golden boy' Sunak previously but now he's on the naughty step with the public. Perhaps hard to imagine a natural vote winner amongst the rest. Most of them are damaged goods.

I can see a tough couple of years for the Tories whatever they do.
If only it was as easy at should be to "unify the left" and kick them out on their *****.

I saw a suggestion yesterday that Johnson's allies may force a confidence vote now in expectation of him surviving and then having 12 months without the threat of another confidence vote

I was in that famous oil producing island of Tenerife earlier this month where petrol costs 1.40 (£1.19) a litre.

jail them both Peter Stefanovic on Twitter: "Today Johnson's deputy official spokesman refused at least 7 times to deny the gathering took place. The Commons Privileges Committee could now demand the messages are handed over to its investigation into whether the PM misled Parliament over Partygate https://t.co/xahFhhzJrP" / Twitter
i see further down those tweets someone saying Johnson has been calling his critics promising them promotions and asking in return that they 'stay with me' lol creepy crooked corrupt liar
i have noticed the last few months princess nut nut managing to stay out of the headlines

It will be funny to see Boris squrim if they reach the 54 letters but with Sunak now looking down and out, the truth is Boris will survive comfortably any vote of confidence. Other politicians in his position would then reflect on their legacy, damage to the party etc and resign. But we know Boris will cling on to dear life, and use any dodgy trick he can muster.
It's going to be a crap couple of years till the next election whatever happens.

Can't see any election happening, just because one paper said it. They can sit back for 3 years. In that time inflation and fuel prices should be down and corona will be largely behind everyone. Biggest chance of him being booted might be end of the year when inflation will peak and second gas rise will have hit. Bring in someone new as things are recovering
