Wouldn’t be surprised if we end up sending troops in to Ukraine just to buy the man another 5 minutes in office

Just shows how vicious the internal fighting over the leadership is amongst Conservatives. Rory Stewart has talked about how Gove, Sunak and others simply turned on him when it seemed he had a chance of beating Johnson. Think it was George Osbourne (not known for his sagacity) who said recently that as nobody really wants to go for the leadership so Boris is safe. Took a stalking horse to get Thatcher out. This will be others clearing the field

The only thing I can think of was the vaccine rollout and the military support for Ukraine. But he is unfit to be PM and he should still resign.
Both things you mention are about it. Both involve the liberal spending or our dosh. They are bereft of positive ideas or a plan to take the UK forward. Everything is reactive. Under Thatcher, who had a plan, the complaints came in the shape of asking for more jobs. Now the plea for more benefits is repeated day-to-day without any questioning as to why it has to be this way. They came to power on lie and therefore can only ever be lying, their yearning to go back to the days of brexit division is palpable. So they bring it up with fictional new battles to fight as they thrive on the emotive rather than the practical.

40 new hospitals? A Nuclear power plant every year? This lot would toil to make them out of lego.

Meanwhile the siphoning of cash towards the rich churns away in the background.

Tories are not liars, they just don't cooperate with the metropolitan police by not responding to the questionnaire!!!

A source at the @metpoliceuk says the reason why junior Downing Street staff got fined, while senior figures didn't is that the senior people failed to answer the questionnaire.
    So non-cooperation gets you off.
I'll remember that next time I'm arrested for protesting.
There is no such thing as too much yarn, just not enough time.

Pretty much a wet blanket of a report. Very weak conclusions IMO. Not going to bring Johnson down.
    Pretty photos though.

    https://assets.publishing.service.go...GATHERINGS.pdf

Edit to add.. While I think the conclusions are politically worded and weak, some of the detail about individual "works events" will be potentially damaging. People leaving at 4:20am following parties ....

    Finding number 2

Whatever the initial intent, what took place at many of these gatherings and the way in which they developed was not in line with Covid guidance at the time. Even allowing for the extraordinary pressures officials and advisers were under, the factual findings of this report illustrate some attitudes and behaviours inconsistent with that guidance. It is also clear, from the outcome of the police investigation, that a large number of individuals (83) who attended these events breached Covid regulations and therefore Covid guidance.
Johnson in Parliament - "all guidance was followed".

There is nothing wrong with the report. There is enough info in there for multiple people to lose their jobs in a normal situation.

It must have been very difficult for Bozo, telling folk what they should and shouldn't do live on TV then going off doing what the **** he and his chums fancy straight after.

It's almost as if they are somehow entitled.

the UK is no more a democracy than Hungary or Egypt or any of these countries who have lost track of what the rule of law means. Utterly shameful. We should be out in the streets. But then again, even thats illegal if excessive noise is used while doing it.

The right blend of contempt and arrogance that they're taught at Eton and a bit of jingoistic nationalism thrown in will see them through.

Actual opposition might help as well in the long run but Bozo is in touching distance of the jubilee so a decent fanfare from the media on this should see the masses " move on" from folk dying while him and his chums partied.

No moral compass, never resigns is only every sacked, it's really down to the UK equivalent of the oligarchs who pull the strings to decide if he's going to cost them the next election or not and pull the trigger.

I suspect that, looking at the ministers around him,, he will be staying.

He'll stay on for the next wee while, allow him to soak up all the negatively around partygate and the cost of living crisis caused by Brexit, Tory MPs will then vote in a new leader, probably Sunak, about 3 months before a general election and sell it as moving on from Boris ect.

They have no moral compass whatsoever. Any idiot can see Boris should not be leading the country but Tory MPs would rather pickup their paycheck than do what's right and proper for their constituents.

If theres any cash left, target it at the traditional nasty party base plus any red wallers who still think Bozo and the gang will chase all the "foreigners" away whilst simultaneously saving £350m a week from the EU to give directly to the NHS.

That'll help them limp on for a few more months but the country will need to either ramp up its production of union Jack's dramatically or import more from China to keep the momentum going.

Office of PM and the democratic system in this country is broken and Johnson just so happens to be the first one who has decided to test it.

It's a losing game trying to fix democracy in the UK.

One minute he's saying he's humbled and sorry for everything, the next he's calling the LOTO "Sir Beer Korma" and calling for him to resign.

    Utterly pathetic.

With the references to parties taking place whilst the press conferences were going on, I wonder if Whitty and Vallance saw anything and, if so, did they turn a blind eye?

Good Law Project ain't giving up, i give them a donation every few months

The Metropolitan Police investigated the various gatherings - we use a neutral expression - around 10 Downing Street during the pandemic lockdown by sending questionnaires to suspected attendees.
Our interest is in three such gatherings:

    1. On 13 November 2020, a gathering in No. 10 on the departure of a special adviser (understood to be the former Downing Street Director of Communications)
    2. On 17 December 2020, a gathering in the Cabinet Office on the departure of a senior Cabinet Office official (understood to be a defence advisor)
    3. On 14 January 2021, a gathering at No. 10 on the departure of two No. 10 private secretaries.

Together, these are known as the “Three Gatherings”.
It is reported that the Prime Minister did not receive questionnaires in respect of the Three Gatherings despite evidence that he attended them. Other attendees did receive questionnaires. We do not understand the decision to investigate some attendees but not the Prime Minister.

Attendees at the Three Gatherings who received questionnaires were fined for attending them. We do not understand the decision to fine some attendees but not the Prime Minister. As we understand the law, if a gathering was prohibited it follows that all who participated in it committed an offence.
We can see no basis for holding junior civil servants to a higher standard than the Prime Minister. And that is why we - former senior police officer Lord Brian Paddick and Good Law Project - have taken the first formal step in further judicial review proceedings against the Metropolitan Police.
We invite the Met to confirm it will rectify its failures to investigate the Prime Minister’s participation in the Three Gatherings, or provide us with its reasons so we can assess the lawfulness of its refusal. Unless it does, and we have given it 14 days to comply, we will begin further judicial review proceedings.

Lord Paddick: “If the Met is to avoid further deterioration in public trust and confidence, they must explain why they failed to even question the Prime Minister about his attendance at these events. We are simply asking the Met to either explain or investigate further, and if necessary we will ask the Courts to force the Met to do so.”

It was only after Good Law Project began judicial review proceedings in January that the Met agreed to investigate at all. And we will not hesitate to commence further proceedings to ensure it investigates them properly.
For the rule of law to operate it must operate fairly, without favour to the powerful. We will do what we can to ensure it does.
    Thank you,

Jo Maugham - Good Law Project
