They didn’t. Chances came mostly from left side.
Seriously? Their possession was due to them dominating the midfield, from the middle. We gave them far to much room after the first 20 minutes.

Fuchs did almost nothing. If he got past newell, JDH nipped the ball of him. He reminded me of the Ojo that so many wanted. All huff , puff with no purpose.
    You did see the game?

Up there with one of the worst shouts on here. Newell is consistently the stand out and was so yet again tonight.
    I don’t see it personally. I must watch a different player/game.

Can’t have that for a second. They got almost nothing through the middle. He’s been our best player this season
They were constantly able to find feet in the area between our midfield and defence tonight. Our defence stood up to the challenge as they had very little protection. Not something that I think is a big issue normally but we struggled without the ball in there tonight.

Congrats to Scott Allan tonight …career must have felt over a year or so ago..and almost out of the club a few weeks ago. Tonight he scores one, makes one and turns on a strong performance ..delighted for him #respect

Thought he was done at Hibs with the lack of game time but that’s him on three assists and a goal in the last few weeks. Could be like a new signing.

I thought our centre midfield was poor tonight, didn’t have full control of the middle of the park for vast majority of the game, jdh been poor recently, would have Allan and 2 out of the 3 current centre mids in there. Pleased for Alan getting the chance he deserves tho, hampden beckons

What don’t you see? His defensive side of the game is second to none, his ball retention is outstanding, he scored and put one on a plate for Nisbet tonight. If he’s not the most complete midfielder we’ve had in many a year then I’ve no idea what we’re expecting.

I disagree about the defensive side being second to none. In a lot of respects he reminds me of McGeouch, plays within himself but has the talent to do a lot more. Feels like he has his fans and an OK performance becomes a MoM one in the eyes of some.

Though in saying that I thought he was good tonight.

Yep. Best player at the club by a mile. If anyone thinks we will win games because of steady eddies like JDH then they are in for a long season. We need to have Allan starting every single week. Tonight - Assist of the game. Goal of the game, tackle of the game and standing ovation from the fans. That's why we love him. That's why the idea of him being minutes away from being given to St Mirren was so utterly nuts to me.
    Welcome back Scotty!

Sorry, but Hibbysam and I sidetracked this thread a bit. He was referring to Newell not Allan. Fwiw I agree with you re Allan.

Agree with that and he was our MOTM tonight for me. Even just taking the first half he was a good bit better than Allan. Scottie may have been second best in the first half but wasn't at the races second half. JDH having a rough few games and Magennis playing too far away from Nisbet imo.

Our middle 3 were very good today. It’s really hard to drop one. Hence the issue with JR having to find an area to get Allan on the pitch.
Not too sure I agree with this either, especially not in the 2nd half anyway. Utd looked like they had an extra man in there. Amount of times one of their players picked up the ball in the middle and had time to turn with it was concerning, just as well dundee utd’s decision making in the final third was very poor.

Allan has definitely shown the last couple of games he can play a vital role this season, whether that’s starting or coming on will probably depend on the type of game and who is available. It’s great to see though as I confess I was starting to doubt him and how much game time he would get this season and whether that would be it for his hibs career.

Not to throw the thread totally off topic but for JDH its worth remembering that he missed Tyne due to illness and has been subbed the last two games since looking absolutely knackered. So I think he is still getting back up to full speed even though I thought he looked decent enough tonight first half especially.

JDH was standing talking to Ross after the game when the players came across and I’m positive the conversation was along those lines. The way he was gesturing it was like he was saying he couldn’t get his breath and was basically done in.

Totally agree with this. Watching game pitch side Jack did nothing 2nd half to change the dominance of Utd in the middle.I find it hard to believe a fan at the the game would say what underscore seen

He brought on Gogic and thought that made a difference in terms of winning the ball and stopping their onslaught.

Being 3-1 up maybe changed Ross’ opinion of the subs needed but I was amazed he stuck with the same system all game when the game was crying out for us to go 5-3-2 and pack the wide areas defensively and the midfield area. That would have let us let Boyle or Scott maybe pounce kn the counter with late runners. Didn’t think any of our changes tonight really helped us except from maybe Cadden was more switched on defensively.

You must do, newell keeps our midfield ticking, when he was out a few weeks ago it was very obvious what he brings to the team

Agree, thought Joe Newell was a real standout last night.

And great to see Scotty back enjoying his football and performing well again. Really intrigued to see what kind of impact he has against our nemesis on Sunday 🤞🏻

This 100% JDH and Magennis were poor tonight Newell was holding it together in middle of park

I thought gogic done very well when he came on however saying that I think the utd manager was just as effective in the swing as that change when he took off pawlett and Fuchs (who we should be looking at signing if possible) those 2 where running riot 2nd half why utd took them off was baffling but great news for us.

Delighted we’re through to the semi thought we played some nice stuff first half and looked dangerous each time we went forward, 2nd half was a worry, again we don’t look hungry enough in trying to win the ball back, I understand being under the cosh utd desperate to get back in it but we let teams have far too much space and time on the ball, I think we should have set up for counter attack JR seems to prefer to make us more solid and keep what we have it’s so tough to watch us just sit in deep and hope a clearance will result in a breakaway

Thought he was the best player on the park. Mentioned at the weekend he was excellent against Dundee. Looks a player every time I see him.

Yes a sensible sub alongside the intro of Cadden and the energy he brings. We slipped into our comfort zone from 0-3 at half time but we gave ourselves that luxury by again carrying an attacking threat. On several occasions it was mentioned Ross was dancing about the touchline so.not sure what more he could have done.

Great to see Scott Allan light up the game for us in the first half and JR was saying he likes that position, cutting in from the left.
He's certainly earned a jersey for the weekend but I'm not so sure we'd get away with that same formation against St Johnstone, if big Rooney is bombing up the right for them.
It didn't work out when Heckingbottom pushed Scotty up in support of a lone striker and I can't see JR shifting Mageniss, so it will be interesting to see what the manager comes up with.

You don't have to be a winger to play wide left, more of an attacking wide midfielder, only problem playing Allan there is he gives little help to the LB, when played centrally we have other players who can help out defensively but not so much out wide on the left. It's a nice option to have but it was noticeable that United focussed all their attacks down our left after half time, Ross brought Cadden on to shore things up.
