There's some huge doses of copium on this thread, I don't think England will beat Italy but they were better than the Danes last night and deserve to be there.

French not happy/jealous. But they don’t like it up ‘em, surrender monkeys, would have been speaking German if it wasn’t for us.

England have a good team and deserve to be in the final regardless of how they are rated, they have beaten what has been put in front of them apart from Scotland, I hope they lose just as I would like to see Hearts, Celtic or Rangers losing on a weekly basis, in tournaments every team needs a bit of luck and they have had their share, unfortunately I think they will complete the job.

Yup. Feel exactly as I do when Hearts are in a final. Makes me realise how much 2016 would have been torture for them.

We really need BBC Scotland or STV to do a Scottish transmission of the Final.

I agree. Preferably with Jack and Victor from Still Game doing the commentary.

I might be one of only a few who does think it was a penalty, soft but still a pen. It was the challenge from the side against Sterlings thigh that was the foul, although he was going down when he was hit.

I thought they deserved the win, and we have one more chance for them to fail.

    Come on ITALY.
That was certainly the ‘contact! that would have meant VAR didn’t see it as an obvious error, which is the way they’ve run it this tournament.

Don’t think it was really enough for a penalty of course but I think that’s what they’ve seen.

    This morning. 😉

He was already in the process of diving into that contact. Never a penalty. Even the normally pro England German media were baffled by the decision.

Fair enough. It's a bit weird though.

Scotland and England are considered rivals, its really not that odd that Scottish folk don't want England to win, and the vast vast majority of folk on here support Scotland.

Do you call it bitter when Hibs fans don't want Hearts to win?

Aye it never ceases to amaze me. It's Hibs v Hearts, local rivals. I want England to lose every game they play as I'm sure do the vast majority of Scottish football fans. If Hearts beat Motherwell in the Scottish cup semi with a poorly taken disputed penalty I doubt many on here would be wanting to sing their praises.

Yep that is it for me. A rivalry simple as that. Not too difficult to understand really.

I’m just glad that unlike some it’ll have no real bearing on me should they win it. I’d rather they didn’t and I hope they get pumped but for instance I’d choose them winning that over say Hearts winning a league cup. I think they’re winning it unfortunately.

I've never understood the needy English desire to have Welsh, Scottish and Irish football and Rugby fans support them. Do Welsh, Irish and Scottish fans have the same need of solidarity or acceptance from their English counterparts?

This Home Nations need to stick together thing is lost on me and as an EU citizen, I've got 27 Home Nations to choose from.

Surely if you have read any of my other posts on this matter you will realise that I fully get this is a Scottish board and accept the banter that goes with it. I have never called it bitterness, just because I am vastly outnumbered it doesn’t mean I can’t banter back. Oh and for the record I ****** hate Hertz 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I’d watch if Frankie Boyle got the presenter gig. And Irvine Welsh and Jerry Sadowicz as studio pundits.

I also thought it was a penalty. As you say, it was soft but I've seen softer ones given. They were also denied a stonewaller earlier so it kind of evened things up.

You are right, there was a foul and that's why VAR couldn't overturn it as there had been no obvious mistake made.

Are the English genuinely needy about that? It's not something I'm aware of. They seem to be having a happy enough time right now without worrying what the rest of the UK thinks.

Is it not just the case that English teams/sportsmen and women feature more regularly in high profile games/events than the rest of their Home Nations counterparts (hardly a surprise given the respective populations of each nation) and it can therefore seem a bit 'in our faces'?

What I would say is that in my experience English people tend to be more likely to wish Scotland well in sporting events than vice versa.

......... you’ve always struck me as that sort of punter and good on you. Of course we are bad losers, jealous and have barrowloads of sour grapes but it’s galling when someone comes on this forum to reprimand us for a natural reaction.

In my experience, it's a bit like Hibs and Celtc. They "support" us in a patronising way when it suits them and are amazed and dismayed to find out it's not reciprocated.

Anybody else notice Gary Neville getting a wee dig in at Boris Johnson while praising Southgate?

The Hibs v Hearts comparison has never stacked up IMHO. In fact it's not even close for me. Hearts impact on my day to day life to a far greater extent than the England football team ever do. We share a city with them and play them regularly, whereas Scotland face England once in a blue moon. The vast majority of Hearts fans wish nothing but ill on us at all times (and vice versa) and there's a poison around the derby fixture that these days puts me off attending. Sure, there's a 'traditional' rivalry between Scotland and England but not one that consumes me with the total and utter loathing I feel for Hearts.

I've got no problem admitting I felt happy for England and their fans last night and I hope they go on and win the tournament. I certainly don't feel the need to summon up support for Italy based solely on the fact they're playing England. There are no circumstances in which I could ever say such a thing about Hearts, whose total and utter non existence would improve my life immeasurably!
