Basically his guess was, make sure everyone you know between 18-30 gets vaccinated or they will have to take on covid without protection

Those case numbers are awful.
I know I'm almost contradicting myself less than a dozen posts after I said something different but I wonder how long they will allow this to go unchecked? It seems unlikely it can carry on this way indefinitely even if hospital admissions and deaths remain relatively flat. I'm not suggesting, or wanting, a return of anything like what we had over the winter but there's still something of a a balancing act here. We can't just let this continue to run out of control among a section of the population for numerous reasons, not least the increased strain it puts on the vaccination effort with delays, no shows and all the related issues.PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. I've just walked through the St James Centre and it was far busier than anywhere I've seen since lockdown. It was predominantly young people (I assume school hols have started) and I suspect there would be a large likelihood of anyone infected passing it on to numerous others. The set up is farcical also in that queueing systems are in place to reduce the number of people inside shops...but the volume of people queuing and the layout of the queues is probably as risky as people being inside the shops.

They know delta is going to get round everyone. They have seen the numbers of hospitalisation is staying low and they seem happy with getting our immunity in youth now, rather than winter. It's out of control now so that'll be what happens anyway

I was thinking along the lines of 1st and 2nd doses piling up 4, 5 and 6 weeks down the line, especially considering the limited storage time available with Pfizer.
Obviously the fact there will be immunity from past infection negates that somewhat though.PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

I think you were spot on with your first post. I don’t think there’s much appetite to impose more restrictions and we’re close enough now to herd immunity that, as unpalatable as some might find it, becomes a quicker and more effective way out of the restrictions long term (along with vaccinations).
So long as hospitals can cope and deaths come down, I think most people will understand and back that approach.Follow the Hibs podcast, Longbangers, on Twitter (@longbangers)

A virologist at the University of Edinburgh has urged the “highest level of caution” as lockdown restrictions are eased.
Dr Eleanor Gaunt, an expert on respiratory viruses at the Roslin Institute, warned the UK is in a “delicate situation”, amid a rise in coronavirus cases.

My mate told me that we've had more positive cases in the last 24 hours than we have had in any other 24 hour period since the START of the pandemic (in Scotland). Can't be right, is it?

East Lothian and Dundee now have the highest infection rates in the UK - as of 23rd June.
Midlothian and Edinburgh are 4th and 5th highest, Blackburn with Darwen is 3rd and the only local area outside Scotland that's in the top 5.

You can't really compare the figures to March 2020 though as hardly anyone was being tested back then.

We're testing a lot more though, which will be a factor in why that's the case.Mon the Hibs.
