Politicians don't resign for any reason now, sadly. Hancock should have gone when details emerged of his making a fortune (along with friends) via PPE during the pandemic. His private life is his own business; however, this story reminds me of my dear old gran, who used to describe Tory politicians as "money grabbers and fornicators".

He's been lined up as the fall guy in any enquiry since day one so the longer he remains, the more can be blamed on him. Also Cummings wants him gone so he stays. Finally he's about the only person in the entirety of the UK, and quite likely some way beyond, who can make Johnson look semi competent in comparison.

Johnson has declared the matter closed so that will be that. The days of an affair or a fling bringing a govt down are long gone.
