Phe release there weekly delta data dump transmission advantage down from 45% to 35% which is brill but we'll wait and see.

Cases now massively under 50 and in unvaccinated groups.
This includes people with severe and mild vulnerable list in one group, but the under 50s get huge protection.

2 doses stop 96% of cases and 99.97% of hospitalisations. Just need as many as possible to get vaccinated all over the world. Worried about uptake in under 30s but hopefully surprised. Almost 70% in Wales in 18-25 but slowing right down

Israel re impose mask wearing after case numbers go from 0 to 100 a few days after lifting the measure.
They will need a higher herd immunity rate thanks to delta

I have been saying this for quite a long time now but the apparently standard reaction from people is a blank look and a desire to shrug that off as being anything too serious. If they think virus contraction is a matter that can be dismissed for younger people or even older people who survive it then they aren't paying attention. This disease isn't just here for the killing, it also inflicts severe and often complicated long-term organ and other damage.

We are going to be living with a number of things arising from this for a very long time - ie many years, not months. Those are; long covid in volume, other health conditions unrelated to COVID suffering pretty dramatic treatment backlogs as waiting lists go off the charts, a playbook of novel mutations continuously emerging for as long as we fail to get 80% of the global population vaccinated and the need to maintain social distancing and masks on an ongoing basis.
Yup. For me there is no "back to normal". Covid has irrevocably changed the world. There will be a new normal that will soon be hopefully be pretty close to what it was before but we are dealing with potentially 150k dead in the UK, millions with long covid, mental health problems surging, a devastated economy, travel stopped or very complicated/expensive and the very high likelihood of restrictions being reimposed down the line due to winter surges combined with bad flu season, or other variations emerging.

If we can get back to having a high degree of normality I'm happy to accept mask wearing and some level of social distancing, or whatever is required. Although I'm fully vaxxed I'll not just acting on 9th August like the last year and a half didn't happen. I'll still see friends and family, go shopping and get to the football but don't see myself in a nightclub any time soon or heading into Xmas sales when it's rammed. Going to the cinema isn't really holding much appeal either. I'm also hoping home working is one of the few positives to come out of this as it's been a real plus for me.

There's debates if youngsters have done enough, but theirs no doubt the tories didn't care. Neil ferguson had to resign for an affair during covid but I'm sure handcock will say this was his work bubble 😆

HEALTH Secretary Matt Hancock has been having a secret affair with his closest aide, The Sun can reveal today.

He cheated on his wife with Gina Coladangelo, 43, who he hired last year with taxpayers’ money, as Covid gripped Britain.

Hancock, 42, and millionaire lobbyist Gina were caught on camera in a steamy clinch at his Whitehall office.

Whistleblowers revealed the Health Secretary had been *spotted cheating on his wife of 15 years with married Ms *Coladangelo.

He was seen kissing her at the Department of Health’s London HQ during office hours last month as the mutant strain began spreading.

A Whitehall whistleblower told The Sun it was “shocking that Mr Hancock was having an affair in the middle of a pandemic with an adviser and friend he used public money to hire”.

Did they ever tinker with the levels to allow things like soft play to go ahead in level 2 areas?

There's hardly any difference in restrictions between L1 and L2 generally anyway so it seems additionally harsh on businesses/people stuck in that little area where they're not allowed to operate but could do so in L1 as we continue to "pause" the progress.

L2,1,0 should probably all be grouped together now as far as I can see.
    Mon the Hibs.

Soft play centres remain closed in level 2 areas.

Poor woman, only got a fraction of the money his pub landlord got, very poor values for a government minister, or is it?

    Thanks.

Another 3.5 weeks to go at least then.

Looked up the Saltire centre guy and it appears he decided not to open anyway as planned as couldn't get any guarantees it'd only be him punished and not his customers.

The rules are so similar across L0,1,2 that I imagine there's not a huge number in a similar boat to him but I thought they might have tried to tinker around to solve the high profile exceptions.

I read her salary is only £15,000 but she’s already a millionaire so it doesn’t really matter and the role only requires 15-20 days work per year.

I see Labour have said that Johnson need to "get a grip". Judging by the photo in the Sun, Hancock could teach him precisely how to get a grip.

Large reduction in cases in Edinburgh. I wonder if we're over the worst of the positive tests for those people who travelled to London, without seeing a similarly large increase in hospital admissions?

There was a 50% no show rate at one of the vaccination centres yesterday . With case numbers and isolation rising rapidly in the age groups due to be vaccinated theres bound to be a hit on the numbers vaccinated.

    Thanks Keith.

    How is it manifesting?

I’ve been trying to shake off a cold for a week and couple that with getting my jab which than had a fight with my gym recovery and I’ve been pretty ****ed for a couple of weeks.

I can’t imagine how you’re feeling - I hope you can start to see the green shoots of recovery soon.

Sorry for the late reply (and thanks for your kind words :-) )...

I used to be fairly active and could walk for miles. Now I have a very limited capacity for walking and feel really tired after about 20-30 minutes (or quicker on a bad day), often with tingling sensations in my throat and chest.

I usually start off okay but quite quickly find my breathing is a bit of a strain, and my muscles start to ache. When I get home, I'm totally exhausted and sometimes have to sleep it off.

I don't actually have a 'life threatening' condition as such, but it does affect how I can live my life in quite a big way.

Presumably that's an admin issue again? Surely that's not all made up of people who don't want the jab.

Yep the hospital numbers have more than trebled since the start of last month but there's nothing like the increase that we saw at the start of the last wave.

The numbers in hospital at the start of May were similar to the numbers we had in mid-September (around 60). Today we have 188 people in hospital, whereas at the start of November (roughly the same kind of gap) we had more than 1,200 people in hospital.

The increase in hospitalisations we have had over the last 7 weeks took us just 2 weeks to experience in September/October last year.

I wonder if a chunk of it is people who have just gone to the drop in vaccination clinics instead of their scheduled appointments.

Someone posted earlier that the supplies of the "right" (age appropriate) vaccines were lowish and the UK was waiting on supplies arriving.... both taken together could have a big impact I guess
