At the time of this post there was nearly 2,850 posts on this thread.

Probably the majority of them pleading for Griffiths to come home.

Well he’s not coming now because he’d rather play with the bigger boys.

Plus Nisbet and Boyle will presumably be away for at least another couple of weeks to allow them a break, due to their international commitments. I hope we're not going into our Euro games with only Doidge as striker.
    We have Gullan bacķ

When you look at how much Fred cost Man Utd. I'd say SJM is easily in the £50 million bracket.
SJM also under contract till 2025.

Fred hasn’t play loads for Brazil but it’s a higher level than SJM. He had won 3 league titles in Ukraine before going to Man U.

SJM has played 36 times for Scotland - played some important games and now a major tournament - he’s definitely raised his profile. If Scotland had qualified it would have raised his profile even further. The England game definitely would have done him no harm with scouts watching him.

I will be still surprised if he moves this summer. Seems a pretty loyal guy and another good season he could easily become the most expensive Scottish player ever sold.

He’s also now played more games for Villa than he did for Hibs !

Gilmour to Norwich on loan looking likely.

Does it work like that? K/ante cost Chelsea 30 million, so Mcginn is worth 10m. It goes both ways.

I don't think villa will get 50 million for Mcginn. There are just better players out there for that price.

I think McGinns lack of pace may turn some off. But there's no doubt he's as good as most midfielders currently in the EPL.

£50m wouldn't be a surprise given some of the ridiculous prices that teams have paid for relatively unknown qualities at that level.

He'd guarantee you 100% effort as well, unlike someone like Pogba

EPL player prices are way over inflated. I don’t think SJM being valued at £50 million is outrageous at all. Talk of £100 million for Declan Rice puts John around that price tag. We can give all kinds of comparisons. Villa just dropped £30 plus million for a player just promoted to the championship. Honestly had never heard of him.

If Man Utd or Chelsea were selling McGinn they could ask for £50m and get it. I doubt Villa could.

It's not just about the player but also the selling club, hence why Villa got him for peanuts.

They should bloody well do the right thing and sell him

I was the same with the guy Villa just signed from Norwich for the £30 million and I still can't remember his name

If Griffiths doesn’t want to sign for us, we move on. No player/ex-player is bigger than the club.

Best player in the championship, and been called up to Argentina squad. 30 million was a very good price for him. He had previous played in both La Liga and the premier league. He wasn't some championship player.

Rice is highly valued because of age, home grown, great potential, versatile player. He has a higher ceiling than McGinn IMO.

I think 50 million is a price Villa have put on him to put Liverpool and others off. He is worth that to them, but for 50 million you simply could get better players. Yves Bissouma, Marcel Sabitzer or Houssem Aouar for example. Some of the worlds best midfield players have moved for less than 50 million in the last 3/4 years.

McGinn is a great player. I absolutely love the guy. I just don't think he is quite at the level of a title challenging side in England.

It will take more than Griffiths if we are to improve on last season.

I agree with you, I wasn't saying the boy from Norwich was good or bad value for the £30m but I was just surprised that I genuinely hadn't heard of him. It's been a weird season for obvious reasons and I don't pay much attention to the English championship obviously lol but I do watch English football mostly due to having a bet and hadn't heard of the guy.
I would love to see SJM at a champions league side and don't think he would let him or the team down but like yourself I just think he's just short at that elite club level

You reckon he'll be offski Billy? I take it will be a permanent move as he only has a year left I think, can't see it being another loan.

I agree. At long last it puts to bed the silly rumour that 15% of any sell on is shared between us and the Buddies.

Dunfermline stat their game against Spartans with 2 trialists in their starting 11 and 3 more trialists on the bench. One of the 2 starting trialists has just been sent off.

I personally couldn’t care less as he’s clearly not interested in Hibs. He might deem us worthy when he’s 37 or something.

    Any update on Jackson Irvine?

A mate of mine messaged to say he heard he had signed a 2 year deal and will be announced on Friday in the new away kit…..

Can’t find any other rumours of this so not sure the info is accurate?

It's nothing to do with deeming us worthy. It's to do with playing at a higher level, a larger wage and maintaining his current standard of living.

These are all things I would consider if I was offered two jobs in the same industry too.

I seen that on Twitter last night. Boy said he’d bought a house next door and like you say 2 year deal announced Friday with purple and green away strip.

I have absolutely no issue with us being any players second choice to Celtic.

Infact I doubt there’s any players out there to whom we wouldn’t be second choice to Celtic.

Probably rumours but the only thing to suggest it might yet happen is the lack of any other news or rumours about Irvine in the media.
