New guy starts at Cellik on Thursday
A desperate Griffiths will be waiting on him.
Lawell will have marked his card.
Leigh to Hibs stories to start late next week.
Can someone smarter than me (which wouldn’t be hard) explain the Griffiths situation.

As far as I understood his contract with Celtic ended on 31 May and Celtic didn’t opt to extend it for another year

That reads like he is no longer employed by Celtic,so why is it reported he is still hanging about and training with them.

Callum was highly rated, one of the few the coaches thought had a real chance. We’ve got another young boy, 2 years younger than Scholsey, Jayden Fairley who can play the same position. Maybe they see him as a better prospect than CY
Callum is left back and I thought Jayden was a right sided midfielder are you sure he’s for the same position. Callum is smallish for a left back these days at 5.7 I suppose

Griffiths’ contract/extension of contract seems to be a bit of a grey area, although I think it is officially at an end. I think he is, very publicly doing a lot of training, but not officially with Celtic. By all accounts, negotiations with the new Celtic boss are well down the line and staying with Celtic is his top priority. I think the ball is deeply in Celtic’s court and they know they will get him on a much reduced wage than he was on for the last few years. Unless Celtic say, enough is enough, and give him the thumbs down, I think he is certain to sign for them.

Ps ...... I am not smarter than you and know as little as you, but, I think it’s not too difficult to read between the lines.

So the contractual terms and conditions he was on on his previous contract will have lapsed as at 31 May as Celtic did not take up their offer to extend. They could have then suggested an alternative contract on reduced terms to him for his consideration or at least suggested that that may be something that is a possibility and so looks like he is hanging out for that.

I think a 25-30% reduction on his previous terms would still likely price him out of our range.

The few games he played for the development I was at, he played a left wingback position, as he’s a leftie. I’ve no idea where Hibs think he’ll play long term
Callum is small, but makes it up with his tenacious tackling and running

He'd have a better chance of getting back in the Scotland team if he was at Hibs starting every week. Maybe if Nisbet leaves we'll go for Griffiths.

How accurate these websites are is anybody’s guess, but £15 to 18k seems to be the figure being banded about. That suggests that even a 50-60% reduction would still be his best offer in Scotland. Of course he has to weigh that up against his opportunity for regular game time.

If Cellik offer him anything it will be at least 50% less per week than he was getting last season but that will still be loads more than he would get at Hibs.
Hibs wouldn't offer him more than £4k a week hence his desperation to stay home with the bhoys.

id also have thought length of deal and potential bonuses would be a key factor. Will Celts offer more than a 1 year?

Given his vulnerability, I don’t think many clubs would be comfortable with more than a one year deal. As I said above, the ball is in Celtic’s court, and, if they are willing to take a chance on him, he’ll stay at Parkhead, on a much reduced wage.

Might be a 12 month rolling contract, if he stays with celtic and isn't up to scratch next season then they can cut their losses

Are rolling contracts for players a thing? I know it's used occasionally for manager appointments but don't think I've ever heard of a player being on one.

Think a lot of players have contracts, that trigger an extension

Are rolling contracts not in relation to the notice period? For managers it typically means that if they wish to leave or be sacked either side has to provide 12 months notice (or be paid that amount in lieu of notice). Similarly if another club wants them they need to pay 12 months worth of salary as a fee.

What I meant was maybe they’ll offer him a contract, say play 30 games and you get a years extension
Maybe it was the posters terminology, you’re right, Managers seem to have rolling contracts

No idea why your being so arsey about it tbh, maybe SB had the foresight to see he would go for big money? With the fees being quoted and the money we get is certainly substantial and in our terms in the Scottish game pretty eye watering.
WTF am I being “Arsey” about?
I asked a question and then replied civilly to the answers.
And I still don’t see 15% as being an unusually high add on. Pretty standard if you ask me. Nothing ‘eye watering’ about it.
You ok wi that? Or do I need your approval?

Take it he wasn’t a first team player?

Didn’t even know he played for them.

Now that the Euros are over for us, my thoughts turn to signings.

    Let’s get started.

That comes as no surprise, if confirmed. If the new guy can get him on point, they have a bargain basement born again footballer. If the comments on KS are typical of the Celtic support, however, they will be distraught at the news. Mind you, their grief will only last five minutes if he starts banging in the goals.

James Pearce saying Liverpool are interested in Mcginn but Villa want 50 million, so a deal is unlikely this summer.

Imo he's not worth 50 million, but he probably is to Villa, so they won't sell unless it's good money.

I reckon these days in the English market he’s worth every penny of £50m for what he brings to a team

He’s worth 50 million all day long down there

Disagree. He's a tier below some of the players moving for 50 million. If he was a 50 million pound player, Villa would be wanting much more.
