How does a Thistle have nothing to do with Hibs? And in what way does it make it tinpot?
What does it have to do with Hibs?

Ive never known a song, flag, strip or anything to with Hibs having a thistle.

Not convinced judging by the photos with the players.

The kit looks good in the promo video, but that has had some treatment to it in the edit.

A slimmer , white colour would had better.

Hibs are an Edinburgh football club, Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, the thistle is an emblem of Scotland, therefore a thistle on the back of a a Scottish football club who will be, hopefully, playing a number of games in Europe has a lot to do with hibs.

Would you have said the same if it was a saltire or rampant lion?

Would it be possible for some clever clogs to match up the strip to a street map so we can tell exactly what is on it. Figured parts out I think.
Doing a complete map overlay on to the current images of folk wearing it would be tricky as you'd need to warp the map image to match parts of the strip that are curved/creased. Once there's a good image of the shirt laid flat it should be doable.

For now it's not too difficult to figure places out just by comparing side-by-side with Google Maps or whatever, particularly once you establish a few obvious landmarks – e.g. the big empty squares above the J are the Botanics/Inverleith Park, big area under the Utilita house is Arthur's Seat/Holyrood Park, Waverley is easy to spot etc. Probably a pain on a phone mind.

That’s what I was thinking, a thistle is tinpot but a harp somehow wouldn’t be?

I could turn a few streets in to crescents.

But the point of football club identity - and branding - is to differentiate, to stand out, to assert what makes your club different to the rest.

Picking an emblem with no previous attachment, that is literally the name of some other clubs we compete with, on the flimsy pretext, the same flimsy pretext that could apply to all our competitor clubs is just odd.

We have 3 emblems already, adding a 4th for no reason seems pointless and manufactured.

Its a Hibs strip ffs, not a Scotland strip, or an Edinburgh Thistle strip.

I suppose you would be happy with a stylised castle, anything that isn't scottish?

Not really bothered by the thistle but perhaps we’ll see the unicorn 🦄 on the away strip 🤣

What’s with showing all sorts of pictures but none with the full kit?

    Standard launch requirement.

That was also on my mind. But I think we have to accept that a thistle is more identifiable as scottish.

It’s just a thistle mate, really no need to get your knickers in a twist over it.

A couple of people have said that this kit will be a record breaker, so we maybe should have gone with a stylised Roy Castle.

Hate it, to be honest. Too much faff. Too modern.

    Want this please:

Took delivery of two similar tops today. The 1965-72 top and the 1972 Scottish Cup Final top. I’ll be wearing these to ER next season.

I’m not a fan of the new top. Far too busy between the street map and the fade.

    My knickers remain thoroughly untwisted!

Look forward to the away strip, with the Heart of Midlothian on the back...

There's a map of Gorgie on the back of the away shorts - I'll leave you to guess where Tynie falls...

How is a thistle, representative of the country, unrelated to hibs, a Scottish club?

I'm really not understanding your hatred of the thistle, it isn't even that prominent.

You’ve said in the past that you would have no problem with us releasing a green and white hoops kit so it’s strange you’re now fretting about a small image of a thistle not differentiating us from teams we compete with.

Sorry, I should have made it clear, someone from the Czech Republic might understand the thistle but be a bit confused by our national animal. 😉
