I don't think Dykes was a Scotland International when Livi sold him.
He was named in the squad a few weeks after joining QPR

Agree with this. Hearts got around 11 million for Craig Gordon. Not expecting that just now for Doig, but another season might push his value up. I has a look on the Arsenal forum and they think 5m is loose change
May I point out that it was Vlad that got the 11 million quid and it went right into his suitcase! Not Hearts. Just like the ST and share money!

As for Doig….. they’d be paying for the potential. Sure Ron will make sure we are not short changed.

That's why the idea of clubs working together to drive up prices won't necessarily work. £1m for a Livingston player is a good deal for them. Fantastic deal in relation to the prices they pay for the player and the wages they pay them. It would be a terrible deal for us with a higher outlay.

Also, we have no interest in driving up the prices of Scottish talent outside of our own because we're likely to want to buy it.

If the transfer fee for every Scottish player doubled, we’d benefit.

Indeed, but as others have said, it’s also up to us not to look desperate for any offer going and stick to our guns.

It doesn’t help when clubs like Livi sell their main striker (and Scotland international) for £1m and then go on and on about what a good deal it was, but somehow or other we need to drive the value of Scottish players up.
The reported fee for Dykes was £2 million and given the level of wages they pay etc, it will keep Livingston sorted for a while to come hence their happiness at the deal.
I would say the Dykes fee was good when comparing it to what we received for McGinn.

Hibs are in good financial nick as we have seen this season when they told English teams to bolt when their offer wasn't enough or simply didn't suit us.
That is a significant change at Hibs.
Long contracts and financial stability allow a club to play hardball

Caveat - if a player on a long contract stops firing they can simply sit tight on their wage until their long contract ends so it is not a strategy without risk.
Of the current long contracts, Nisbet and Doig look safe bets but as things stand Hibs must be sweating the long Magennis deal.

Whilst agreeing with the sentiment, clubs are never going to unite around incoming transfer fees. There's very different and competing agendas at play across the quite varied circumstances of our top flight clubs.

Football has changed, forever. The issue is much greater than transfer fees, we have to look at sponsorship and income from TV rights and accept that our game operates on the periphery of what has become top class football in Europe. I can't really see anything that can realistically be done that will change that tbh. It's nothing to do with mentality and everything to do with money.

Louis Moult turned down Motherwell to sign for Burton Albion.

Thought he might have gone to Hearts.

Reading the comments in the article it doesn't look like Arsenal have got £5m!

They will spend money but will spend it wisely. No financial gain from European football next season will take a hit.

He fits the Jack Ross/Ross Jack preference for players with reversible first and surnames though so we may sign him 😁

Good shout, would be a great signing for them. Sort of player, if fit and on form, could be the difference staying up or not.

Apologies for diversifying but following on from the Jack Ross / Ross Jack and John Collins / Collins John examples.

I really should take offence at that but given that almost every one spells my name wrong I not; it isn't even a particularly uncommon surname.

Very good player but it's so long since he played regularly due to being at Rangers*.
Was very good when playing alongside Kane Hemmings at Dundee and a partnership with Doidge could offer the same.
Just turned 31 and as far as i know no injury issues so a 2 year contract would be good.
Will have become used to a fat wage packet so he may have ideas above his recent playing record.
Hibs, Aberdeen and Hearts are his only options in Scotland and Hibs are currently the best of the 3 and will be playing in Europe.
May fire down to England for a couple of years but not sure if anyone would pay him sufficient money to make the disruption in his life worthwhile.
If we sell Nisbet we could do a lot worse than recruiting Stewart and Griffiths.

    * Played 33 games at Rangers in his 2 seasons which is more than I thought, but suspect a fair few were coming off the bench

I’m a bit hazy about the current situation concerning Leigh Griffiths.

Did Celtic not take up the one year extension to his contract on 31 May thus releasing him and making him a free agent thus enabling him and his agent to negotiate with other clubs.

Or were things put on hold pending the arrival (believe when I see it ) Ange Postecoglou and determining who he wants to hold onto.

Our issue will be that many of our targets will depend on who stays and goes. If we sell a player for lets say £3m that makes a huge differnce to what we are looking at as targets. Greg Stewart v Olivier Giroud.

The only issue with that is we don’t know when/if they’ll be sold. You wait too long and a potential may sign elsewhere

Griffiths has said that his first choice is to remain at Parkhead, despite them not taking up the extension. If they offer him a new contract, it will be on a vastly reduced wage but probably more than any other Scottish club will match. He will probably be hanging on to that hope until the present bosses and the new manager decide his fate.

15 league goals in 5 years since leaving Dundee. A hard "no" from me.

Wikipedia makes it 17 goals in 4.5 years including 8 goals in 16 appearances for Kilmarnock in the first half of the 2018/19 season
