    Valencia walk off the pitch

Team left the pitch during the first half due to a racist comment.

Right way to handle it. Teams returned to finish the game with both players involved substituted.

    Both players substituted?

Glad to hear of players walking off, sad that we find ourselves in this situation but this kind of response to racism (i.e. walking off) says more than kneeling before every kick off imo.

Not sure what I think about subbing both players though, you don't want to get into situations where either team can be strategically weakened by another side (can't believe I'm saying that but you never know).

It's a shame there is no hard and fast way to catch the **** who make racist remarks, sounds daft but do you mic up the players?... Again it's a bloody disgrace that this stuff even needs to be considered these days but we need a way to bin the racists from the game for good, both players and fans.

The victim was understandably not in the right frame of mind to play on, per the report.
Mature, sensible signature required for responsible position. Good prospects for the right candidate. Apply within.

I was watching it live and it was very difficult to see.

Diakhaby was livid, it's similar to the Kamara incident in that the players reaction said a lot more about the remark than any accusations could.

I am still struggling to understand why so called professional athletes feel the need to use racial slurs at any point? What happened to calling someone a tw*t or a *****?

Players will say anything to try and get inside the opposition players head. I've heard some sickening things on the pitch, however you'd think with racism being so high profile just now that something would click with them and they wouldn't say it. Sad.

Only the valencia player was substituted, the alleged perpetrator was able to play on.

Sorry picked that up incorrectly. Am I correct in saying that he was substituted at halftime?

    He was.

Like the incident involving Kamera, this incident amazes me.
I get there are loads of thick people in society and they will racially abuse people especially on social media which offers a covert platform for their behaviour.
What blows my mind is players racially abusing other players. Did they miss the memo, did they not work out why they were on their knee before every match.
In a way it shows how difficult it is to eradicate such behaviour in supporters and society when they are unable to eradicate it in even the players.

It’s a bit like cricket sledging back in the day. Ditto football fans in the 70s and 80s.

If mocking an opponent’s ethnic background (or anything else) put them off their game then it was considered fair enough, regardless of how bad it sounded in any other context.

I have *some* sympathy with this viewpoint, but would say that most racist abuse was just pure racism not gamesmanship.
