Generally in my lifetime, the good teams have been let down by a poor defence/keeper. Mowbray’s team being prime example. McLeish’s team possibly being the exception.

Any updates today? Don't remember many recent games of my birthday, although there was a 1-1 draw at Tynie, which I think was Andy Dow's debut. Possibly 1995?

16/3/2019 Scottish League Premiership
Hibernian 2 v 0 Motherwell
McNulty pen 19
Gray 39
Paul Heckingbottom’s HIBS extended their unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership to five games with a superb performance against Motherwell
Marc McNulty celebrated his Scotland call up with a penalty when his shot on goal was blocked by the arm of Tom Aldred on the goalline
David Gray who looked like one of the walking wounded and looking a candidate to be replaced recovered enough to get his head on the end of a Stevie Mallan corner and in true SDG style he thundered the ball into the net just before half-time

Efe Ambrose gave HIBS the lead after two minutes when he powerfully headed home an inch perfect Scott Allan cross
Rocky then came rushing out of his goal after 14 minutes and handled the ball about 25 yards out as the St Johnstone forward attempted to chip him
HIBS now found themselves down to 10 men and Cammy Bell came on as sub replacing Jamie MacLaren
Cammy Bell played well and the HIBS goal enjoyed a few narrow escapes but there was little he could do about Chris Kane’s late equaliser

Anthony Stokes struck twice in the first half as HIBS recovered from Sunday’s League Cup Final loss
Iain Vigurs pulled one back for Caley on 77 minutes before Carl Tremarco and Liam Hughes both missed glaring chances to equalise
Hibs then missed a trio of opportunities to increase their lead during an unprecedented seven minutes of stoppage time that had been added on due to HIBS’ goalkeeper Mark Oxley developing an eye problem which resulted in him picking up a booking -that would cost him a place in the semifinal - and having to be replaced by rookie goalkeeper Otso Virtanen

Certainly a result that took lots of strength both mental and physical to come back from and get a result against a tough opponent away from home when it looked as though we had lost our chance
I think I started to believe after that result and Stokesy was starting to come good

I'm gonna suggest the first game was our first ever meeting in a major competitive match (ie not pre-season friendly, East Scotland Shield etc).

17/3/2001 Scottish League SPL
Dunfermline 2 v 1 Hibernian
Murray
High flying HIBS were undone in a fascinating contrast of styles
HIBS had been hit hard by injuries and drafted in Mark Dempsie at Centre Back and Russell Latapy’s compatriot Lyndon Andrews who had performed so well in the 6-2 game
Hibs missed the lynchpin of Franck Sauzee and despite a goal from Ian Murray went down 1-2

17/3/1990 Scottish Cup Quarter Final
Dundee United 1 v 0 Hibernian
I attended this game and I still remember vividly the huge travelling HIBS support and standing behind John Leslie in the queue waiting to get in singing ‘Hibeees here! Hibees there!’ It was also the day of the famous Grand Slam Calcutta Cup match at Murrayfield
Hibs started brightly and Brian Hamilton rattled the United crossbar from 20 yards in the ninth minute That was the closest HIBS came all afternoon as that old fox Jim McLean had recalled John Clark to shackle Houchy who never got a sniff and pushed Miodrag Krivokapic into midfield to stifle the threat from John Collins
The United tactics of playing the long ball from defence up to Mixu Paatelainen and Darren Jackson worked a treat when Jackson received a Freddy Van Der Hourn free kick in the box with his back to goal and somehow managed to scoop the ball over his shoulder into the roof of the net
After that it was Dundee United versus Andy Goram

Hibernian 3 v 1 Third Lanark
Johnstone
Turnbull
Ormond
HIBS were running away with the League but this was a strange game
Firstly Third Lanark had a throw in and Archie Buchanan ran in front of the taker and blocked the ball with his hands
The Referee asked the taker simply to retake the throw without taking action
HIBS then took the lead through a simple goal from Bobby Johnstone
HIBS were then awarded a freekick outside the box Archie Buchanan placed the ball down and East Fife were organising their defensive wall when Eddie Turnbull ran forward and hammered the ball into the net
The Referee allowed the goal to stand
Ex HIBS man ‘Cubby’ pulled one back for the volunteeers with five minutes to go to cause a few nervous moments
Willie Ormond eased the fans’ fears when he raced clear and buried the ball into the net with his trusty left foot

17/3/1928 Scottish League Division One
Hibernian 2 v 1 Rangers
Dunn 2
A big HIBS crowd turned out at Easter Road for this St Patrick’s Day clash against bitter rivals Rangers
There was a near riot when in the first minute of the game a Rangers cross glanced the crossbar and was cleared by the HIBS defence only for the Referee to award a goal
Things calmed down when Jimmy Dunn scored a beautiful goal to equalise five minutes later
Every HIBS player was a hero that day but Jimmy Dunn was a super-hero when with only ten minutes to go he crashed home an unstoppable winner
Well I woke me up this morning
To a great almighty roar
From the throats of trusty Hibee men
Twenty thousand strong
Sure it was the Hibernian brigade
Winding up to join the big parade
So I put on my bunnet
And the scarf I love so well
And I bought myself a shamrock
Just to wear in my lapel
Don’t you know that today’s March 17
It’s the day for the wearin’ o ‘ the green.
Oh it’s a great day for the Hibees
It’s a great day for the green
Sure the emeralds and the shamrocks are the order
Sure there’s not a finer team across the border
Oh it’s a great day for the Hibees
Oh their green flag’s flying high
Every Paddy Mac is singing
And the bells they all are ringing
It’s a great great day
Go tell the Rangers it’s a great great day

We drove north to San Francisco as the season start loomed. It was way before mobile internet days. I struggled to find the score. I had a internet enabled Timeport phone but couldn't get the thing to work in California. Eventually we went into a bookshop/news stand in San Francisco and found a copy of Scotland on Sunday. The match report confirmed that Hibs had indeed beat Celtic 2-1. I think Lee Power scored the first goal for Hibs.
We came back to Scotland with high hopes for Hibs' prospects foir the season. They were top of the table in September but ended up relegated.
