Grounds for positivity in those figures. Just need to see vaccinations turbo-charged and the public holding the line on compliance with restrictions.

Cases are still absolutely huge though when you compare against where we were in the summer. It's going to take another couple of months to get them down to a level that allows some relaxation of restrictions.

However a few weeks ago, we had similar numbers of deaths being reported and the hospital numbers continued to increase so it's definitely a positive that the people leaving hospital (even if it's through death rather than discharge) aren't being replaced by new admissions.

Funnily enough my neighbour's were told to go to the EICC for their vaccine, 2 buses, they phoned to say it was awkward and were offered Pennywell which is 5mins away. It's a community hub not GP's administering the vaccine.

Just seen my aunty get vaccinated. It was done by the GP practice. The duty nurse noticed us watching FMQs, and said that the vaccine roll out programme is working to plan, and also mentioned the Sunday drop off in numbers. She said that they're getting 80-100 vaccinations on a Thursday, and they're all out by the Saturday.

Community vaccine team are starting my surgery’s housebound who are over 80 tomorrow which is great news! They might not get them all done in a day as it can take up to 15-20 mins per person and also travel time needs to be added to that, but they hope to be finished by end of Friday.
I don’t normally praise the Edinburgh evening news but this article gives a lot of helpful information about the vaccine procedure in NHS Lothian

None, other than the community vaccination team is leading on this. The answer is 'wait, its coming'. It's like Paras at Arnhem.

Ox/AZ planning for a tweaked variation to take on the mutants by the Autumn. So I guess they'd roll that out with/alongside the winter flu jabs?

“He said it was a relatively quick process - and would only need small trials to be done before roll-out.
There is still strong evidence existing vaccines work well against the mutations that have emerged.
Although their overall effectiveness may be weakened a little.”
And breathe and relax... I’m sure these guys must read the threads on Hibs net as they seem to quickly answer a lot of questions :)

Glad I've made no plans to fly anywhere this year. It's all very well saying we're going to go further with our travel restrictions but if the Scottish airports aren't being forewarned of the plans then you can understand why they're likely to be even more hacked off than they already were:

Enjoyed this article I just read about the history (even medieval) of viruses. How and why they mutate and how they die out

I just like posting accurate statistics and don't want to be seen to be promoting fudged figures.
