Grounds for positivity in those figures. Just need to see vaccinations turbo-charged and the public holding the line on compliance with restrictions.

The new cases figures are good too. A week ago it was 1330 and 6.2% +ve. I think the 7 day rolling average of new cases/day will dip under 1000 with today's update.
Definitely going on the right direction.

Cases are still absolutely huge though when you compare against where we were in the summer. It's going to take another couple of months to get them down to a level that allows some relaxation of restrictions.

I do. It's kind of undermining the Cabinet Secretary who is responsible for their performance.
Im sure the cabinet secretary will be there too. She mentioned speaking to them about what plans they've put in place regarding the Sunday drop off on vaccines.

Could possibly be those reductions have became mortality figures. I would hope some of the decrease are patients discharged but it's not very clear to me if that's the case.
It's inevitable that if we've had 88 deaths registered since yesterday, a fair number of these patients will have been in hospital prior to their death and therefore a proportion of the decrease in hospital numbers will be down to people dying rather than being discharged.

However a few weeks ago, we had similar numbers of deaths being reported and the hospital numbers continued to increase so it's definitely a positive that the people leaving hospital (even if it's through death rather than discharge) aren't being replaced by new admissions.

Funnily enough my neighbour's were told to go to the EICC for their vaccine, 2 buses, they phoned to say it was awkward and were offered Pennywell which is 5mins away. It's a community hub not GP's administering the vaccine.

Just seen my aunty get vaccinated. It was done by the GP practice. The duty nurse noticed us watching FMQs, and said that the vaccine roll out programme is working to plan, and also mentioned the Sunday drop off in numbers. She said that they're getting 80-100 vaccinations on a Thursday, and they're all out by the Saturday.

Community vaccine team are starting my surgery’s housebound who are over 80 tomorrow which is great news! They might not get them all done in a day as it can take up to 15-20 mins per person and also travel time needs to be added to that, but they hope to be finished by end of Friday.

I don’t normally praise the Edinburgh evening news but this article gives a lot of helpful information about the vaccine procedure in NHS Lothian

That is really poor. What reason are they giving you for this?

None, other than the community vaccination team is leading on this. The answer is 'wait, its coming'. It's like Paras at Arnhem.

Makes sense. GP's wouldn't be vaccinating on a Sunday, so that doesn't explain the low overall number. If it was a supply issue surely the FM would know this and not have to meet with HB's?

Ox/AZ planning for a tweaked variation to take on the mutants by the Autumn. So I guess they'd roll that out with/alongside the winter flu jabs?

I think she's meeting them to hear what plans have been put in place to increase the numbers. I hope we see a rise on this Sundays numbers.

My work did a clinic on Sunday just past and vaccinated 60 people, and hopefully do another one this Sunday if we get a delivery of vaccines in time

“He said it was a relatively quick process - and would only need small trials to be done before roll-out.
There is still strong evidence existing vaccines work well against the mutations that have emerged.
Although their overall effectiveness may be weakened a little.”

And breathe and relax... I’m sure these guys must read the threads on Hibs net as they seem to quickly answer a lot of questions :)

Glad I've made no plans to fly anywhere this year. It's all very well saying we're going to go further with our travel restrictions but if the Scottish airports aren't being forewarned of the plans then you can understand why they're likely to be even more hacked off than they already were:

That's brilliant news. I wish GP's all offered the same service.

Enjoyed this article I just read about the history (even medieval) of viruses. How and why they mutate and how they die out

It's all a bit weird, but they're obviously choosing their words carefully, so something's up.

Won't know if what's up is good or bad until we see Hancock either laughing or crying. Or possibly both at the same time, as he managed on the Piers Morgan show.

Laughing this morning. Weirdly his idea for the vaccine programme was loosely based on a scene from the film Contagion where there is a mass pagger for vaccines, lol.

    Please don't. That's editorialising IMO.

Post them, and the reader can make up their own minds.
Thanks I'll have a think about it.

I just like posting accurate statistics and don't want to be seen to be promoting fudged figures.

I've not seen anywhere that numbers are fudged, not one article or tweet. I'm sure a paper would pick it up or Nicola Sturgeon would use it. It would be a huge worldwide headline if numbers were being changed

Where by counting different tests done on same person, that is just being sleekit bs they are. Its not comparable to saying this amount was done and there wasn't. I agree they are being deliberately sneaky with percentage of care homes done
