Not that we had any reason to think that there was, but factcheckers have confirmed that BLM/Antifa did not storm the Capitol last night. Quite incredible that factcheckers have to waste their time on such ludicrous statements from certain key Republicans.

Before the last UK election I read an article about Johnson. The author knew him personally and she said he was a man either disinterested in or incapable of caring about the feelings of others.

She said he had betrayed his own siblings, cheated on every partner he had ever had, studiously ignored some of his own children, betrayed his political allies, used and discarded friends, deceived his employers etc etc etc. All he was interested in was what was best for Boris. Anything else was unimportant , if he got what he wanted then he was happy and if he retained a bit of popularity whilst doing so then all the better.

Trump has all the same tendencies. He won't shed a single tear for the lives ended because of his rhetoric. If it destabilises the next US govt and paves the way for one of his brood to have a run at the next election then he's happy. Everything else is just collateral damage.
I think the experts call Trump's condition malignant narcissism. If you get the chance to watch Unfit: The psychology of Donald Trump it goes into all his traits but also the way the process has been managed to press voters buttons. Really scary stuff, he even cheats repeatedly at Golf! Johnson probably cheats at Croquet

Sometimes you just have to say it as it is. As our FM did with the BBC and Steve Bannon at the time. This was just over two years ago, but is it a lesson which the Tories will ever learn?

What is DOD? Not sure how it works in the States but who is in charge of the National Guard and why were they not in readiness for the riot that took place?
    Department of Defense.

Not sure if it is because DC isn't a state that's may be why they had to ask? Then other states governors mobilized theirs.

Currently not a State, but you can bet the case for full statehood for DC will be high on the agenda after yesterday. Was never going to happen in the Republican controlled House, but now the Democrats are in charge it is far more likely.

Other than party-political, what's the justification for statehood for DC?

I can understand why it's not, but am interested in why some want it.

I’m not sure of the main motivations really, but I think the crux of the argument is that the policies of a new DC State could directly go against those of the federal government, who would be the biggest employer in the state. (That’s probably a gross oversimplification)

Politically it’s purely because it would be a guarantee of two safe Democrat seats.

Straight away DC would get two senators. Two more would be added if Puerto Rico gets Statehood.

That would straight away be 4 Democratic Party senators.

For me, I’ll hark back to the founding of the Republic and the Boston Tea Party.

Imagine if Britain had given the colonies MPs to sit in Parliament in London. A whole different ball game.

Why not incorporate DC into Maryland?

(I'm also wondering if there are parallels with Australia)

In a party that has IDS, Johnson, Hancock, Gove, McVey and more, it takes a special level of effort to be one of the worst human beings in that party but Pritti Patel does a sterling job.

I hate to think what could potentially happen at Biden's inauguration. If some nutjob Trump supporter does something horrific at that then you really have to wonder where America is going to end up.

That would be the most logical thing to do.

Hence the reason it won't ever happen.

twitter needs to do the same, he would explode
    I doubt Twitter will.

Yes, he would explode, but he'd move to Gab or somewhere else. His followers would go with him and ditch Twitter. News outlets would continue to report his words thereby giving publicity to the new platform and millions would join it globally to enjoy the car crash, if nothing else.

Trump has probably been good for Twitter.

I like the constant barrage of stories about White House Staffers resigning.

Well, yeah, they only have two weeks left in their jobs so it's a rather obvious thing to do. I wouldn't read too much into it (like they've suddenly developed a conscience or a sense of right and wrong).

This is deserting the sinking ship time

It’s something I’m not even comfortable talking about, but I’d imagine Kamala has a huge active security detail around her these days. Just the vast scale of horribleness against her even from mainstream right wing voices on Twitter is frightening.

Anyone with integrity wouldn't have touched Trump from the get go. He first got involved in running for president via the racist 'Birther' conspiracy relating to Obama. It was so obvious he was incapable, unqualified and morally unfit. His entire life has been a con.

Its not fashionable to say so, but it started with John McCain, he isn’t the great all round non partisan guy hes been painted as recently. Him putting Sarah Palin on the ticket and opening the door to the tea party started all this extreme right wing liberalism off. I see Palin said on Fox today that yesterday’s senate riot was actually antifa dressed up as nazis. Right hen.

I've asked this to the people I know here who are fully on board with that line of thinking: What would be in it for them (antifa type people)? They've technically already won.

Pelosi calls for the 25th Amendment to be used and if Pence doesn't do that, then congress will likely move forward with an impeachment.

    His days are numbered.

A tweet she put on Kamala Harris' Twitter:

"No the f*** you will not! No masks, no you, no Biden the kid raper, no vaccines...sit your fraudulent ass down...we the ppl bitch!"

This was in response to a tweet talking about Biden and Harris' plans.

Commonashsense was her Twitter account. It's horrendous.

Personally, the person I have sympathy for is the poor cop who was forced to shoot. I have no sympathy for any terrorist who is killed in the process of committing their crime.

Pelosi - Trump gave Putin "his biggest gift yesterday" and "our country is a difficult place with Trump in office". Not holding back. Brilliant.
