It's clear that Trump wanted the Governor to falsify the election results, but he probably didn't quite say enough to be charged with an offence which would stand up in court.
That he's corrupt is obvious and he shouldn't have been trying to put pressure on like that, but in all likelihood he had Guiliani by his side as he made the call and stayed just on the unprovable side of illegal.
The tape should take some steam out of the Republicans' futile efforts tomorrow to reject Biden's confirmation, but that's about it, imo.

Even Richard Nixon at least tried to distance the presidency itself from doubtful behaviour or worse but I guess Nixon was just an old fashioned crook who lacked some of Trumps more abhorrent characteristics.

He needs to be prosecuted for any crimes committed after he's out of the White House. If he gets away with his rampant criminal behaviour then the next Trump that comes along is going to be smarter and more competent than him. Which is a very scary prospect for America.

The judicial branch will stay GOP controlled for decades because of the number and youth of the Trump nominees. The only way to overturn this veto on progressive legislation is for Biden to nominate a similar number of liberal judges. This could spark a war of new appointees every time a new president comes in and descend the system (either further) into farce. I’m not sure if Biden is that kind of politician.
The legislative branch is likely to be problematic for Biden too, even if both Tuesdays senate races go in his favour. In this scenario it’s a 50/50 split in the senate, but there’s enough ‘corporate Democrats’ who could vote against legislation that they see as going against their interests or the interests of the billionaires that fund their campaigns. This is where overturning the Paris climate control accord or rejigging Obamacare might come unstuck, even before the Supreme Court dinosaurs get involved in picking over the bones.Last edited by hibsbollah; 04-01-2021 at 09:26 AM.

The mindset of the Trump supporters is to deride everyone who stands up to him as a traitor or communist. And, just so you know, we live in a communist country as defined by one social media post I saw. Apparently, banning citizens from owning assault rifles is the mark of a commie pinko state.
These people are nuts.

there's also been some discussion about changing the legislation for tenure of supreme court judges, a suggestion was 18 years, which would immediate remove a number of the longer tenured judges, and put a couple more on short time remaining.
this was suggested as a means to stop a single president being able to load the Supreme Court towards their party for decades.

Just need the Dems to win the Georgia runoff and we could potentially have statehood for DC and Puerto Rico. That would change the game.

The big problem that he has is that by saying the amount of votes he needs (what he lost by plus one) it'll be difficult to argue that he wanted a fair recount as opposed to just the right amount of "votes" to be found. Been engrossed in US news networks about this and even if he tries to pardon himself it wouldn't stop a federal investigation at this level apparently.

Looks like the Democrats are going to take both of the GA senate seats in the runoff’s.
Wow.

If they believe Trumpism is the future of the Republican Party then do we see the whole damaging “mass fraud” narrative continue?

Gives Biden a real chance of getting things done. I can see the republicans tearing their party apart now as the fighting starts over who’s to blame.
Have to say, Biden for all his faults has delivered everything that the democrats dreamed of.

Tremendous news. It will still be tough to pass some of the legislation around climate change, affordable care and stimulus cheques, Bernie Sanders to chair the Senate Budget Committee is a particular corker

But it does give Biden half a chance to get through some of his agenda.
Hard to imagine after the last few years but of the Senate can somehow recover some of its bi-partisanship they might actually be able to craft some legislation that they can agree on.
Seems daft even writing that but ultimately that is what the whole premise of their governing structure is based on...the long trend of polarisation, accelerated to the max under Trump, does them no favours in the end.
Either way seeing the Trumpist GOP taking another beating is pleasing and will hopefully lead to them turning away from his, and his acolytes, rhetoric.

The right would be split down the middle between the Republican and Trump candidates allowing the Dems to win without breaking sweat.
Trump would have been called out and ditched ages ago by the likes of Graham and McConnell but their party has been taken over by a gangster family and their cult like followers.
