It probably will, particularly if there's no deal. The fishermen wanted Brexit to stop the French fishing in UK waters. If it's a no deal Brexit they may end up with more fish to themselves, but less people to sell it too = lower prices. Miles of queues at Dover won't help them.

    Short sighted nonsense.
The wrong kind of fish will be cheaper. We catch herring, mackerel, pollock. We eat haddock, cod, salmon.

The UK imports twice as much fish as it exports.

He absolutely doesn't. His officials might.
To be fair, considering his mandate and that he works for utter morons, David Frost has actually done pretty well.

I think there will be a crap deal but that’s a **** sight better than none.

I seem to recall Theresa May saying no deal was better than a bad deal. Wonder if that is still government policy...?

I wonder also if that is EU policy.

Re fish :- if non UK boats are barred from UK water that could be a major conservation positive as we don't have the boats to catch the numbers other countries take.

... not really been that friendly before and there will be instances where European fishermen will have farmed waters we now claim for generations so expect them to keep fishing

I don't like the sound of that. Mackerel is OK but kippers I've never been fond of.

Moral of that excellent history is that to end conflict it's best to declare a 200-mile exclusion zone round your islands. UK should do that.

My own feeling is there will be a deal on fishing if nothing else.

We should do that as well. We won't be proper sovereign unless we do.

What an interesting point. Being made to go to war whether you want to or not is a pretty big limitation on sovereignty.

    Utterly disgusting.

Surely now Boris has to extend the transition period? Throwing in Brexit chaos on top of a fresh wave of severe COVID-19 restrictions is utterly mental.

It's the way our country is heading sadly, anything to support the government's policy of deflection and blame.

You'd think the torygraph of all papers would know that the finance houses make the business decisions to follow the money to the best and growing markets with the most customers who are easier to trade with.

If the fish had a choice they might fancy their chances in Europe as well.

Following a fish who will ultimately be squeezed dry by the Russians

I thought Scottish fish at least wanted to be different from Bozo and the nasties.

Be aware that all transport to France is currently banned because of covid. This has nothing to do with brex****.

War with France. It’s the only way. Channel the Agincourt spirit. Get Grant Shapps and Handcock as Minister for War and First Sea Lord respectively, blockading Calais on a pédalo.

I agree the current situation is not to do with Brexit, but there were already big problems before the latest Covid-related ban and those problems will be exacerbated by Brexit, irrespective of what form it takes.

The cynical conspiracy theorist part of me thinks its pretty convenient this new strain of Covid has been discovered just before the likely no deal. Isn't it lucky that everywhere will be in a stringent lockdown and people won’t be able to go out on the streets to protest as things fall to bits?

Ironically, this is one of the more sensible posts that I've read on the subject this morning.

So long as we keep our Greco-Germanic dynasty on the throne, we need to have someone to sing land of hope and glory and rule Britannia to.

    What's ironic about that?

I disagree with the pedalo suggestion because I think a heavy duty inflatable or a lilo would be more manoeuvrable for when things get tasty, but other than that, point me in the direction of the home guard.

A musket ball would go right through any inflatable.
