Strange that's not quite how Sturgeon put it.

Places in level 3 are seeing high case numbers and this will be reviewed after Christmas.

I think we’ll see Level 4 again in many places come January

Is it just me that finds the timing of this new strain of the virus and the likelihood of the change to Xmas rules convenient to Government?

I don't doubt that there is a new strain but my understanding is that there have been 25 new strains identified since February. I've never seen such publicity about a new strain previously.
I thought exactly the same when I saw it on the news. The fact they seemed really quick to reassure us that the vaccine would still be effective seems suspicious to me, how would they know so quickly. They’ve ****ed up with the Christmas plans and they need an excuse to scrap them.

    United we stand here....

I do now. It was breaking news yesterday suggesting it was a new development and they already know that there has been 9 cases in a specific health board. I think they've known for a bit longer.

One of my work colleagues based in Kent, has tested positive for Covid
His kids brought it from school, and now the whole family has had it
No signs of a cough, or loss of smell/taste, just a cracking headache and feeling lethargic
I've been having those symptoms on and off since having Covid in March. Most recently 2 days over the the weekend. Plus aching limbs. It's just tiresome literally and metaphorically.

I think this should have been the only type of scenario where rules were relaxed, in the way you can currently extend households for caring for someone vulnerable or single person households. They relaxed it too much with multiple households mixing, and 5 days is mental. 1-2 days max would have been ample.
Totally agree the 5 days period seems very odd and try controlling people over the new year also due to the freedom they had only a few days before

Three council areas are moving up, everyone else is staying the same.

There will be another review next week.

Nine cases of the new variant have been identified in Scotland so far, all in Glasgow.
Surprised at that, unless a council can only go up a tier
Anyone that could potentially go down, in hospitality would have no chance of getting goods in

This may have been asked and answered but is the testing of students returning home for Christmas being included in the daily updates? If so could that be behind the small rise in the positivity rate?
This was asked by a journalist at yesterday's briefing. Sturgeon said it wasn't as the numbers she quotes relate to PCR tests only. Apparently the students are being tested using lateral flow tests.

I thought the same as you.

Just heard from our school, S5 and S6 who haven’t been allowed in school since 4th December have not to return until after the holidays, absolute disaster for them preparing for prelims.
Why were they not allowed in school?

It doesn't honestly matter if the UK reverse their decision to relax the rules at Christmas - millions will be doing what they want anyway and the end-outcome will still look horrific in January regarding new cases and deaths.

Some dark months ahead I fear...
I think the relaxation around Christmas recognised that and was an attempt to try and mitigate the damage by trying to treat everyone like adults and make them think seriously about whether they really need to travel/meet up with family etc.

However, to scrap the plans at the 11th hour would be almost as controversial as introducing them IMHO. Not only would it mess up the plans of many families but it will break the hearts of some for whom this window was going to be a bit of a godsend. While I'm broadly against the relaxation, I know of two families whose members include those who will not see another Christmas and I have complete sympathy with their decision to get together.

Anyone with a positive lateral flow from Edinburgh uni was sent for a pcr government test so she was being a bit sly there

I think we will be in full lockdown by middle of January with 1000s of cases. Hope I'm wrong though.

The email just said a higher percentage of the pupils currently self isolating are in S5 and S6 and they will have fewer teachers in school in the following weeks so they decided to ask them all to stay at home.

They also don’t want to have to set work both online and still teach others in class.

They don’t have to isolate, just stay away from the school.

No but at the rate they're going at so far, it will take over 2 years to vaccinate 50% of the eligible population.

I think it will be easier when it gets to the general population, people who can get out and about, here is the time and place for your vaccination and will be somewhere they are doing them on mass

I said the same in a Whatsapp music teachers' group last night re. the situation in France - restrictions are being lessened even though we're not at the right point on the curves. I was shot down for being too pessimestic - I really hope I am but time will tell.
