While no games are a given we are much more solid than last year, we have better players than Hearts in every position and I feel quietly confident about this one.

We need to ensure we don’t let what happened last time happen again.

I recon Gogic is going to play a big part in this one, and with it being a big pitch at Hampden I would like to see Murphy and Boyle playing on each wing to stretch them

That 1-3 defeat was worse than 0-4 or 1-5 in my mind. Although the stakes were far lower, my expectations were much higher. It was a level playing field, we were at home against a crap, non-financially doped Hearts team, who we had dominated at Tynecastle and who literally could no buy a win. I expected us to ease home comfortably.
But we were not only outfought, we were outplayed in a brilliant Hearts performance, where Stendel got his high press tactics spot on.
Yes, we should win at Hampden, but we 'should have' won back then. It's losable tie if we don't shape up. Focus and aggression will be important. We will have to fight hard for the right to play football in this game. If we get an early goal we could hurt them badly. If not, it could be a bitter slog.

They just completely out fought us and wanted it so much more. I hope JR learned a lot from that game and we never are a timid in a derby again.

I remember being totally shell-shocked, it was our worst derby performance for a long long time.
We got our formation wrong too, Hearts doubled up on our wingbacks and constantly overlapped.

As far as they are concerned their relegation should never have happened and they should be challenging for that coveted third spot in the SPL, and a win would validate all the crap they put out on how they would have played their way out of the bottom spot.
Going into a game against them as the favourites always makes me nervous and I will likely stay that way until we are 4 - 0 up.

We have no excuses for the semi final.
We’ve been playing competitive football at a high level for months now, they are just starting and playing lower level.
We have spent money on a strong first team and, probably for the first time that i can remember, player for player i would put our eleven ahead of theirs.
I rate our manager higher than their manager as well.
Everything is in our favour going into this one, our form is excellent as well.
The only thing, and it is significant, that Hearts have is that sense of injustice and what i would imagine is a hugely powerful motivational factor of wanting to put things right for their fans.
We need to have something that gives us that same fire in our bellies as if we match their desire and work rate, we will hammer them on quality.Follow the Hibs podcast, Longbangers, on Twitter (@longbangers)

Budge is a lot of things, but she's not a thief and Anderson is perfectly entitled to give his money to whoever he wants. Thankfully Anne, Levein and Stendel were very, very good at squandering it...but I suspect Neilson will be a much more astute manager in the long term.

The one on Halkett certainly isn’t clever but I don’t think it’s a red. Any other stadium he wouldn’t have went flying into the boards which are ridiculously close to the pitch. A stonewall yellow, a red would be a stretch for me though.Last edited by calumhibee1; 07-10-2020 at 09:32 AM.

Of course we seemed to collectively have a nightmare which didn’t help but that Hearts team were more dangerous than one they could put out now.

I do think the other one is a red card as well though, was pretty dangerous (more so in that **** hole of a stadium given the proximity of the hoardings).

Tom English keeps telling us that Budge is a successful businesswoman but the evidence strongly suggests otherwise.

Really? That’s pretty depressing.
I think we have had far better teams than them at times over the last 30+ years.
The last time they had a better squad than us was back in Vlad’s days.

Hearts fans could maybe argue Smith better than McGinn, Halkett better than Porteous or Hanlon but even they two are highly debatable.
Marciano
One of Hanlon or Porto (or imo both)
Stevenson
Gogic
Newell
Boyle
Murphy
Nisbet
Doidge
Would all walk into their starting 11. And then you could also throw in Allan and Magennis and potentially even a few others.
Genuinely think we’re arguably better in every position with 2 or 3 on the bench who are still better than what they have starting. Only player I could accept an argument for would be Michael Smith but even then we’ve got the ever dependable McGinn.Last edited by calumhibee1; 07-10-2020 at 11:07 AM.

The Halkett incident has bad optics, but at virtually every other ground in Scotland, Halkett is on the turf and isn't clattering into advertising hoardings at the front of the stand and it's a yellow.
You have to wonder if there are players in Scottish football looking at that incident and questioning their safety playing at Tynecastle, clattering into the stands could cause some serious injuries.
