No idea how anyone heard monkey from that clip.

Because that's apparently what some people want to hear.

    The guy shouted spy-gate.

(Keep in mind that I can't stand Trump)

Why would anyone "want to" hear that?

(again, for the avoidance of doubt, not a Trump supporter)

I think that's harsh. I'm also not a Trump supporter but, if the guy was saying "monkey", I wouldn't blame Trump for that anymore that I would blame Hibs for some of the stuff I hear at Easter Road.

For balance, the other day all I could hear was "monkey". I've listened again just now and all I can hear is "spygate". I think someone has changed the audio!

I hear both. If I think monkey I hear monkey, if I think spygate I hear spygate. So I guess you're right but it works both ways.

Where are you getting those numbers? Are they individual polls?

    fivethirtyeight's state polling averages have:

    Wisconsin - Biden +5.9
    Penn - Biden +5.4
    NC - Biden +1.5
    Florida - Biden +5.2
    Michigan - Biden +6.9
    Ohio - Trump +0.7

Plus at this time in 2016 the FBI hadn't made the unprecedented intervention that Hillary couldn't recover from. Which is not to say something similar couldn't torpedo Joe, but it hasn't yet.

For someone who is such a big underdog you are not getting great odds for a Trump victory at the bookies.

Trump is trying to move the conversation from the economy and covid where he knows he'll lose, to law and order, culture wars etc that have served him well in the past.

I think this is election hangs on who is able to control the narrative and what issues are focused on.

Trump shouldn't stand a chance but I'm increasingly worried in the last couple of weeks.

    Unprecedented times, innit.

    Things going for Trump

    - the electoral college is now quite slanted toward the Republicans. Biden needs a 2-3 % lead just to be level.
    - up until Covid the economy was going fairly well
    - Biden is pretty hopeless
    - the culture war

    Things going against Trump

    - Covid
    - he's an arse of unprecedented magnitude
    - the culture war

I think the culture war aspect will lead to the race tightening as the "tribes" clump together but, in the end, I think Biden will win because he doesn't engender anything like the knee jerk negative response that Hillary or Trump himself do.

There is also potential for a black swan. I would be frankly astonished if Trump doesn't license a Covid vaccine the week before the election whether it works or not.

Reporter asks if President Trump condemns the actions of Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen charged for killing two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin. McEnany: "The president is not going to weigh in on that". CBS.

That's incitement, utterly diabolical. Straight out of the 1933 playbook, cause chaos and claim to be the only person who can ensure law and order.

Would it really be appropriate for Trump to make any comment on an ongoing criminal case?

Nixon did that in 1969, and Charlie Manson almost walked free as a result.

Good point, but he could have made a general statement condemning people taking the law into their own hands.

It’s really happening isn’t it? Some people seem to think racist and fascist are just terms of abuse, that you get to stamp your feet about if you’re called out for it because it’s rude and ‘crosses a line’. Instead of acknowledging that its a description of actual behaviour thats now actually ****ing commonplace, the inevitable consequence being authoritarian government and a police state.

Sadly, he’s not got a great record for avoiding prejudicial ejaculations in the press...

It certainly looks like we're sleepwalking into it. In Trump's case I don't think he set out to do it but there's people advising him that have gently nudged him in that direction and now he's too far to back out. He's now so terrified of what might happen to him after he has to give up the presidency, that he'll try and hang onto it as long as he can whatever the price.

Having indicated that Trump would not weigh in, Trump went on to weigh in

You'd think given what we've witnessed for the last 4 years that Biden would be skooshing it in the polls.

The fact he isn't is worrying.

2 elections running the Democrats have had the wrong candidate and it may well cost them.

Yes, think it will be tight. I guess that 85% plus of voters are fixed in who they will vote for ..likely only a small amount will determine the result either way....

To be fair, Biden *is* skooshing it in the polls by any normal measure. His current 7% average lead is roughly the margin Obama beat McCain by.

But that's fallen from 10% most of the year and people are getting jittery because of how much is at stake.

The President claims people in the dark shadows who control the streets are really controlling Biden. He goes on to talk about a plane full of people wearing black uniforms but then says he can’t reveal anymore because it’s under investigation

It’s a logical progression for him. There are literally millions of QAnon ‘followers’ according to Facebook, it makes sense to keep going with the nods and winks to a wider deep state conspiracy. You’re never going to disprove it, personally I can’t say it definitively ISNT true.

It’s quite brilliant in a very dark, dangerous and divisive way ...makes you wonder who is the architect behind this divide and rule strategy is ?
