England has a 0.03% community infection rate as at July 5th.

It was 0.25% back in May 21st.

    Scotland’s is something like 0.009%.

That hopefully gives some people on here some context rather than a headline figure of “ten times the number of cases”.

"Ten times" is perfectly adequate context to illustrate the fact that the policies you're so fond of don't come without consequences. How do those infection rates compare to early March? Didn't take long for that to turn into 60,000 dead huh?

Scotland rolling 7 day average of people in hospital with C19 - 404

    0.007% of the population

England rolling 7 day average of people in hospital with C19 - 1864

    0.003% of the population

Are those figures right, I’ve just read them but unsure of the validity. Anyone comment?

Scotland's 7 day average is 391, not sure about England.

EDIT - I can't find data just for England but the 7 day average for the UK is 2647 in hospital as of 7th July.

I have no idea if those figures are correct. But if you want to compare them, you need to be sure that the policy for admitting cases to hospital is consistent across both areas. Is it? Who knows.

We need to be very careful when comparing numbers - and I include both UK and Scot Govts in that warning.

If you really need to make redundancies, £1k in February is unlikely to make much of a difference.

It’s a welcome boost for me tbh, and should see an unexpected £7k arrive in February.

The furlough scheme was welcome, as was the CBILS scheme. I had to borrow a six figure sum, and I’ve just had to watch it disappear over the past few months. It’s the price I had to pay to keep my business and keep my staff. It was a bit of a gamble based on people wanting - and being able to afford - what I offer when we get back to normal.

In the grand scheme of things this is a wee bonus that doesn’t make me do anything differently, and I’d be amazed if it affected any other sort of business differently.
I agree with your comments. I have been impressed with the JRS scheme it has worked exactly as it says on the tin, credit to Sunak for that. (I never thought I would ever praise a Tory but we are indeed in strange times). It has certainly helped the charity I am involved with.

What irked me when I heard of the conditional £1K was that it had not been mentioned, I felt Sunak was better than that

"It was a risk," says one senior source.

"We bet on red. And it came up black. The Germans were lucky. They had lots of machines lying around and a system in place. We had next to nothing.
Typical of the jammy bosch to luckily have a system!

Profoundly irrelevant to current policies. People who get seriously sick with this disease stay sick for a long time. I doubt your numbers are accurate anyway as what would be the point of quoting a 7 day rolling average when hospital stays run into multiple weeks. When did those people get admitted to hospital do you think?

Either Scottish hospitals are performing miracles keeping people alive or those figures are dodgier than David Murray’s tax returns.

Not to mention the fact that the easiest way to get hospital numbers down is to punt people back into care homes. Not that that would happen of course.

The luck of those Germans eh, with their well funded health system and government who fortuitously had contingency plans in place.

Some really progressive and sensible reopening of more businesses and facilities in England announced.

I think they are now understanding the science and the risks.

My 8 year old son was able to hug his grandparents and play with pals this week without worrying about social distancing. Next week he's staying with his other grandparents for a few days while myself and the wife get a break. It's all about priorities I guess.

I've always been worried by the high number of new cases in England as they open up much quicker than us. So it was good to see that the number fell by 29% last week.

To avoid confusion it’s on Corstorphine High Street opposite St Margaret’s Park not Road, it’s called Breathe Easy.

No mate Breathe Easy is on Corstorphine High St. Maybe they’ve taken another premises also?

Edit: They have moved it to St John’s Road to expand operation.

What is it that you're needing to wear it for?

18 new cases since yesterday - highest number in 3 weeks
Increase of 22 in hospital including a decrease of 5 in the confirmed cases
Increase of 3 in intensive care (1 confirmed case and 2 suspected cases)
4115 have left hospital since 5th March

Bit of a concern with the highest number in new cases for 3 weeks? Other stats aren't too bad, mind you.

I was at a funeral last week and 43 were allowed into the crematorium. Is this a new announcement?
PM Awards General Poster of The Year 2015, 2016, 2017. Probably robbed in other years

Not sure if that should have happened - Sturgeon seemed to be suggesting that 20 was an increase on the previous rules rather than a decrease.

The Mass was limited to 11 (I think) with no hymns, no Holy Water, Communion in the hand only etc but the big Chapel at Warriston had loads of seat removed and it was definitely advised as 43 were allowed. More people stood outside and listened on speakers.

    Ok thanks PB.....that makes sense.

Can't answer when fans will be allowed into stadiums, doesn't expect it any time soon.

FM doesn't seem too concerned by the jump in cases, as she says it's still a small number dispersed throughout the country so we can assume it's just a variation on the day to day figures.

There seems to be something a bit odd in the data today. It's reporting 13,000 tests completed under the UK government privatised scheme, compared to around 6,000 the day before, and a total of c.60,000 backdated tests added the day before that.

The 18 cases aren't really concentrated in one area either (6 in Glasgow, 4 in Lothian, 2 in Grampian, Lanarkshire and D&G, and 1 each in Ayrshire and Fife). Hopefully just an anomaly and it'll drop down again tomorrow.

Very odd. Even the 6000 was a big spike. The norm for UK gov tests is around 1000/day.
