This will not go away, she has to resign imo.

This is going to harm Nicola. I'm surprised she's backing her.

Toe-curling stuff. There can't be a suitable replacement surely.

The excuse given that she was checking on the security of the second house is shot to pieces if she was there last weekend too.

Unless they go up there for that purpose every week of the year, which they clearly won’t.

If she continues in this vein, it undoubtedly will

555 deaths in England...i know we don’t have the full UK total yet but it sounds like we might see a drop today?

I went a walk earlier and our town was dead (despite having a popular loch and UNESCO heritage site). It’s encouraging to see people mostly doing what is asked of them. If Hancock imposes an outdoor exercise ban because of a minority of morons, he can **** off. I won’t be complying. Rather than punishing everyone, he should be ensuring the authorities have everything they need to catch and punish those flouting the law.

Confirmed she was also at the home last weekend too.
    and.... any other facts?

If it turns out it was, in her opinion, the best place to be for the sake of her (or immediate familys) health/state of mind, will she still be burned at the stake?

Given the Jason Leitch chat this morning, I suspect it’s a case of defending a friend and hoping that any damage is short-term. Sturgeon doesn’t make a whole load of mis-steps but this is a corker imho.

You do have to feel for Sturgeon. She is a very competent politician who I think genuinely cares for the people of Scotland and she has been thrown to the wolves by Calderwood's actions.

She must be under an unbelievable amount of stress and her CMO compounds that by asking like an idiot not once but twice.

If Nicola says she needs to keep her expertise and relies on her then that’s good enough for me. She is needed so she stays, simple.

I'd go as far to calling Sturgeons credibility into account if the CMO is not, at the very least, demoted from her role.

Thankfully, I'm 99% sure she is smart and strong enough to realise this.

CMO position is completely untenable, it's almost beyond debate really.
It sounds as if Sturgeon's got no intention of sacking/demoting her.

    Utter shambles.

I was willing to cut Sturgeon a bit of slack over this and I actually think she's come across better than the majority of the UK government and I say that as someone who isn't an SNP fan.

She's lost all credibility over the handling of this for me now.

  14. #4513
The saving grace, from the government's point of views, is that the situation at the moment is so fluid that this will blow over quicker than it may have.

They'll tough it out and people will move on. I'm not saying that's right but it won't be as harmful as a similar 'mistake' would have been in ordinary times.

This makes literally no sense. I think the best place for my family and their state of mind is on a beach in lanzarote, but that would be against all the rules that have been set by, wait for it, the lady in question.

She initially stated the reason she went this weekend was to check on the home , it's now been revealed she was actually there last week too. So she actually lied when initially caught out - her position is completely untenable.

She, along with others, specifically instructed others not to go to 2nd homes whilst this was ongoing. There was no caveat given about whether it was good for their health, mental or physical; it was simply don't do it. To ignore her own advice on 2 occasions makes that ring a bit hollow.

  18. #4517
Only apologising cause she got caught. Twice????? Ducking joke. She has lied to everyone.

We've a caravan down near Ayr. My wife and I are filling up the motor and taking the kids and dog down for a few days. Might as well eh.

    She lied about what exactly?

Ignoring the coronavirus situation - You think that checking a property once a week is unreasonable?

    This is nonsense I'm afraid.

The best place for my state of mind and my mental health right now would be at work, going swimming 3 evenings a week and looking forward to a wee holiday in Majorca at the end of next month.

None of these things are happening just now though because of the restrictions that I and millions of others are abiding by.

    What makes her any different?

When you are just checking on a home do you need to bring the entire family with the dog , go for a wander about town and stay overnight? It's nonsense and the entire country can see it.

Exactly, the outrage shown by some on here is incredible.

She may have screwed up but it should be remembered that CMO isn't a political appointment, therefore if Sturgeon thinks she should continue in the job then just let her get on with it.

Is it more than an hour away? Is the caravan park open? Will you have to rely on services and the local community while your there? Is there a security presence checking the caravan(s)?

    Alternatively
If anyone has a reason (ie mental health issues) that getting away would help then fire on.

The big question you missed. Is it essential?

That would be covered by the second part of the answer - only he/she knows if they're being wide or truthful.

It'll be a laugh when she stands up there next week and bans all outdoor exercise as too many people are breaking the rules.
