It’s much more than t-shirt politics, it’s a long held principle. I can only applaud them for sticking to that unlike the charlatans that got us in to this mess. Do you really expect Sinn Fein members to swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen and come running to the aid of the UK? Why on earth should they? Those who voted for them did so on the understanding that they would refuse to take up their seats. To do so would be a betrayal.

So the answer is no...now what is the question?,,That is the DUP strap line.

How valid and meaningful would their oath to the Queen be??

Less meaningful than taking their seats and forcing a vote of no confidence if the Tories do not force the DUP to end their shameless feet-dragging on finding the funding and the political will to progress the long overdue Ballymurphy Massacre inquiry?

I would agree about double spaces after full stops. Otherwise we have anarchy.

Is the two spaces after a full stop rule still a thing for people? I got pulled up on it once but decided it was outdated practice and I was right to get with the times and do single spacing.

Quite telling that the banned words include "equal" and "investment (such as schools)".

Thousands of people may loose their jobs, the over 75's face having to pay for TV licences, they keep putting the age we can draw our state pension further and further away and this clown is worried about spaces after full stops. If this buffoon doesn't want you guys to vote for independence nothing. Just on a side note I notice the Barnett Formula is to be 'updated' ie scraped.

Ive seen a report re the PAC who have said that the formula could and should be more transparent. A report the Treasury appeared to rebut somewhat.

I’ve not read anything that said it will be ‘updated’ or indeed intimated it will be ‘scrapped’...what are you referring to that has led you to suggest that?

Scotland does quite well from Barnett and the English Brexiteets hate that.

In what way does Scotland do well from Barnett? The Scottish Government recieves about half back of what it sends down to the treasury. No Barnett just means that they'd recieve even less back.

I’m not being funny but you had seen it was to be updated ergo scrapped...I was simply trying to understand where you had seen that but am I to take from the above that you’ve not seen that anywhere and it’s just a hunch based on ‘English Brexiteers’?

The press release said ‘made more transparent’ which so the English can understand it and demand it is scrapped. Just my take on the suituation but Boris is that crooked he needs a corkscrew bed.

I'm no expert but was the Barnett formula not based on public spending and population split back in the 70's.
Since it's inception, the English (or should it be English/Welsh/NI?) population has risen quite substantially whereas the Scottish population, not so much. This means the ratio has swung in our favour.
You might not interpret that as "Scotland doing well" but it does mean we receive more through Barnett than was original intended.
An old Herald article from 2014 suggested we were £1Bn a year better of under Barnett,,,,

We may be recieving more through Barnett than was originally intended. But it's not the free money we're being told it is. The Scottish Government budget still falls well short of what we contribute to the treasury. We should never lose sight of that.

I think everything needs to be more transparent. The current system we rely on isn't fit for purpose and paints a false picture. Which is why it'll never change.

Good. I'm fed up with it too. I'd add to that "any time soon" which I'm also fed up with.

If the Tories up the anti sweaty sock rhetoric, they could win another 10% back from Farage.

As ever Fife you are being disingenuous around spending in Scotland.

Firstly no one, ever, has said it is ‘free money’...what does that phrase even mean?

And secondly since you failed to answer my last two questions when you spouted your usual inaccurate sound bites re finances let’s try a couple more....

How much tax revenue is raised in Scotland?

What is the figure, as per Scottish Government figures, is considered as Scotlands current public expenditure?

The total level of tax revenue raised in Scotland between 2017-18 was estimated to be around £60 billion. Public expenditure was estimated to be approximately £73.4 billion. But as i've already pointed out. The vast bulk of this "public expenditure" comes from UK Government spending and borrowing in Scotlands name. The budget of the Scottish Parliament falls well short of the £60 billion provided to the treasury at approximately 33 billion + taxes raised through devolved taxation powers. The Scottish Parliament only has the power to borrow approximately £500 million a year above it's total budget, which is barely enough to offset the annual underspend.

There is nothing inaccurate about my "soundbites" as you put it. You're the one who wants to look at 2 figures only without going into the details about how one of those figures is generated and who is ultimately responsible for it being so disproportionately high.

In 2016 he said Brexit would mean an extra 350 million per week for the NHS. From that he's now promising we will still have clean drinking water and Mars bars in the shops. A slight downgrade in expectations.
