Re. The lakers, not necessarily, depends how free agency goes next summer. If another top echelon player decides to join LeBron, and they get good fit role players around them, then they’ll be a danger to seriously contend. That said, there are still a few other strong teams right now. Warriors are historically good, celtics and 76ers are looking to break through and likely will, raptors will be strong this year (and beyond depending on what Kawhi does next year), Houston will be decent (and even more so if they can get the trade for Butler done).
Davis is contracted to 2020 I think, so I don’t think he has been offered his contract yet (there’s strict rules about when offers can be made), this year will be crucial for the pelicans, if they can make a strong showing of the playoffs this season, it’ll entice Davis to stay.
