So an old acquaintance of mine was working as one of Trump's political commissars. I recently heard that he got fired because he was refusing to let Mitch McConnell's wife (the secretary of transportation) send any outgoing mail. He was collecting it and leaving it pile up in some room.

Speaking at a coastguard ceremony today Trump said:
"Look at the way I’ve been treated lately . . . especially by the media,” Trump said, while talking about overcoming adversity. “No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse or more unfairly.”
Guess he hasn't heard of Mandela, Lincoln, Kennedy, etc.

The justice department have now named a special counsel to take charge of the Russia investigation. More high drama.

America leaving the Paris Agreement on climate change is disastrous. Trump is surrounded by climate change denying lunatics. It's a brazen policy of profit before planet, which is also going to do great harm to America.

I did find it encouraging to see various State governors come out yesterday and effectively say "**** you" to him, announcing they would continue to pursue their own initiatives to ensure the Paris agreement is upheld...probably until he fires them or otherwise silences them...

I know this will be unpopular, but is he not doing what he said he would do? He said America first, he rightly or wrongly thinks it's a bad deal for America so has pulled out.

Is there a chance that in a funny way, Trump doing this might help the issue as it has raised the profile hugely across the world (and in the states), and that it migjt galvanise local, city and state authorities to act anyway, in a way they might not have without this furore?
Or am i clutching at straws...?!

Going quickly back to following through on his promises, I think many thought that once in power with all the real information to hand he'd change direction, maybe diverting additional support to the coal producing areas helping them modernise into new industries.

1) A lot of the change of direction on the climate is at state level in the US, this decision doesn't impact their programmes directly or in the short / medium term
2) Economics trumps Trump. The technological advances that are the driving force towards distributed generation and time shift storage are well and truly underway. These are driving down prices and attracting huge investment. Trumps decision does nothing to change this
3) Related to 2) but really the Paris agreement is just a lot of stated aims and non binding targets...you could say it's a lot of waffle when in the real world companies are busy investing capital. Politicians always think they set the direction when really they are simply reacting to what's already happening.
Ultimately solar and wind are plummeting in price, lith and van-redox are changing the game in storage, tesla and big auto are investing billions in full electric etc etc so while the US might no longer be leading on the political stage their companies and those in the rest of the world are. Add in huge Chinese support and I think this announcement while not welcome actually doesn't really matter hugely for the (hopefully) short time Trump will be around.
