Eataly for Italian food. It's like a market and has various mini restaurants in one building. Specialising in fish, meat, pasta, pizza. Amazing place, very close to the Flat Iron building.

Also enjoyed the Spice Market which is Asian cuisine, it's near Chelsea Market/Meatpacking district (and maybe near the High Line?)

For a pretty simple old fashioned lunch there is a place called PJ Clarkes on 5th Avenue, it was featured in the first season of Mad Men. Basically it's maintained the same decor/layout since the 50s. Seems authentic rather than a gimmick and the food was great.

I would get as many recommendations in advance as you can, don't want to be wandering about trying to chance places. Enjoy!
