Sutton was supposedly on £3K per week and £3K per appearance. BDO offered him half of that to stay, but he rejected and went to Motherwell (for less, as it happens). That meant their budget had the "Sutton" wage spare. As soon as that was formalised they offered it instead to Wilson and he took it.

The idea is obviously to make the club more attractive to buyers. There is the risk of the SFA or the SPFL imposing a fixed term transfer embargo, which would prevent them strengthening the squad much even once out of administration. He was the only player they could sign so it made sense to take advantage of the situation. It's also good for morale, signing a player they thought they had lost, at a relatively low outlay (one player wage). Ironically, the same was true of when they "signed" him the first time (late May) when they hoped that would bolster ST sales and avert financial problems. They will be hoping it works out better this time.
Yeah, if it gets another few hundred ST's sold, BDO can claim it as a good move.

Hang on, does this mean that if they're liquidated, the whole thread will be deleted?

    I swear I'll do time!
Don't worry, the thread title will be changed to "(The Yams) The Financial Meltdown" and all will carry on as normal.

All previous jokes, gif's, links and posts will be retained.

The 'signing' of Wilson is literally within the rules but is morally repugnant given the debts and redundancies.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say it'll go against them when it comes to deciding on their punishments for non-payment of wages. I would like to think that the powers-that-be will be annoyed that HMFC have flouted the rules and shown the league in a bad light (again).

I could well be wrong though.

In that case, I unreservedly endorse their immediate and total liquidisation.

Agreed, but it didn't work last time when it really was original news, rather than regurgitated. I really would be astonished if it made any significant difference this time. Like others I'm not concerned re the signing, only by the immorality of the whole affair.

If some spiv buys the Hearts player's contracts after liquidation is that clown Doncaster going to call them a "continuation" as with Sevco? Doncaster, the man who rewrote UK insolvency law out of cowardice.

The problem is BDO can't possibly know, it's pure speculation. Right now Wilson has very limited value as it seems there was no queue to sign him. You have to think it would take at least 1 full season of outstanding performances for Wilson's value to increase. By that time as you infer, the current shareholders may have changed & profit would accrue to new owners but I don't see new bidders suddenly appearing or a bid becoming higher because DW is a Yam.

It is but I thought administrators didnt speculate and looked after the creditors, like Duff and Phelps did.

At least they havent with Dunfermline when they let a large number of players go that could have kept them in the 1st division. At Hearts they seem to getting them ready for the season ahead.

    Whats different here?

FOH are comedy gold in their own right. Their incompetence is a sub-plot to the main soap at the PBS, and are worth a series of their own. IMO.
Fair enough. They started slowly, but to be fair they are coming into their own now.

It's not going to happen but Edinburgh would be great with one club and everyone supporting the Hibs!

I'm nice to Jambos to their face but I don't like those maroon union flag wearing types.

There must be some mistake here. That post refers to a middle-aged woman. This certainly isn't in fitting with their normal ethos. Maybe admin has changed their attitudes

The general attitude of #allisbarry seems to be rife in kickback again.

What's changed? Surely an advance from Wonga and signing Wilson hasn't really changed much.

If no bids arrive by the 12th then they are still well humped. A CVA isn't the foregone conclusion they think.

Seriously though, just like the Jambos to sabotage their own positive thread with yet another sex crime.

I suppose they may as well think and act positively because the alternative is too horrible to contemplate. What's more, they could be right this time, if a group (most likely the McKie one) offers enough to satisfy the Lithuanian authorities. Nobody really knows if this will be the case or not. It's not something that can be easily predicted in the way that their insolvency was. What they have done is avert the immediate crisis and prevented the club from shutting down completely due to a lack of cash. Irrespective of whether this 3000 target is met or not.

Not a lot really. BDO have got the costs (players) of both clubs down to what they think is an affordable level. It's just that Hearts can afford more because they're a bigger club and are in the top division. It's also worth bearing in mind that Hearts got rid of several players before they went into administration. The old regime anticipated bringing in several players (eg1 Boyd, eg2 Goodwillie) to replenish the squad, but administration has prevented that.

This is where football is different I suppose. The money saved could have gone to the creditors but they have chose, instead, to sign another player and the argument for this, being speculated upon here, is that it may increase the value of the club, make it more attractive to a buyer or increase the sales of seasons tickets.

My question would now be how do they quantify any of those things?

Something smells worse than usual down gorgie way. All IMO of course.

BDO was appointed by the main creditor, who must surely have given them an indication of what sort of offer would be acceptable. They've also met with the main potential bidders.

Can't believe BDO would be going through all of this short term cash-raising if there was little/no chance of a bid being accepted.

I've been thinking that myself. There would surely be an issue - a moral one, at least - with asking the maroon hoardes to chuck their money into the abyss, if BDO knew it was pointless.

And then I have a cup of tea, give myself a shake, and remember that watching Hearts limping and crawling through the league next year will more than make up for any temporary disappointment I may feel.
