I'd like a bigger league with say 18 teams. Give us a chance to draft some non-household name players. although id happily stick with last years format if recruiting 8 new managers wasnt possible.

I had a good time doing this last year and hoping to get another one going for the 2013 season. Two things need to be looked at though, 1 is the draft and another is league expansion. What are peoples thoughts on this?
What? the draft was the highlight of the whole thing for me last year . All for expanding the league if we can get enough players. Might give the the chance a winning a game . Would need to start a new thread though as people wanting to play might not check this one.

I'm in for another year, I really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure how you could make the draft work, if we were to do a live draft, how long would that take? Does NFL.com give you a time limit for each pick? Perhaps we could agree that the first 10 picks are live, and then we all put auto-pick on for the last 5?

Shall we do the draft order in the order we finished last year, reversing at the end of each round, or will we do a random draw again?

If there are people interested in joining the league then we should expand it to let them join.

ESPN do it really good. They random the draw and IF you do a live draft everyone has 5 minutes to make their pick. If you don't pick after the 5 mins they randomly pick someone for you. Whole thing would only take about 2 hours for us to do. Pretty sure between now and the start of the season we could arrange a point were everyone could be online at the same time. The season is over 3 months away . Doing a live draft is also way much more fun as the pressure is on as you've only got 5 mins each pick and you get to have a bit of banter with everyone.

the only reason league expension is being looked at is because StevesFamau5 wanted to take part but couldnt as we needed an even number of players. If a reliable person can be found then we could expand. The draft is the one we need arranged though. If we can get a day that everyone agrees on we can get it done in one.

Theoretically interested though I expect to be incredibly busy this year having started my new job.

No problems with expanding the league but it would be prudent to make sure that any new folks are likely to actually keep on top of it!

You need to play. I need someone I can beat .

Is there anyone who posts on the NFL thread who didn't play? If so, sign them up. As for the draft, wouldn't take all day. Would be a couple of hours max.

I'll go through setting a team up but it falls at a time of the year for me when I'm going to be both very busy and not in the UK much.

I suspect I have good potential to field a team of people who are on the DL on a weekly basis as I'll undoubtedly forget to change.

I've just checked NFL.com and you can set up a list of players in the order you want to draft and if you can't do it, or have to leave half way through, then it will pick the highest available player from your list. I'm sure that would be do-able from my point of view.

Happy with drawing the draft order as if it was in order of finish last year, I'd be 2nd last every 2nd round..... This way there's a good chance I'll get a higher pick.

Hopefully we can find some people to expand the league as it will make picking players more challenging.

There's a couple of posters on the nfl thread who we should ask to join, DarrenSqh, StevesFamous5, Houchy, are names I've seen, the draft process wasn't too bad I thought, it was completed a few weeks before the season actually started, so if time is the main issue in regards getting everyone online @ the same time, no reason why not do the same or pre set your picks automatically? Either way I'm winning it this year :)

I'm in again to defend my 8th place finish! Not too fussed about draft order - it would be good if the waiver wire could be set a bit more fairly though so that the person picking last gets first shot at free agents.

I'm in and I would prefer a live draft. It was torture last year. I'm in a different time zone so I would do what I need to do to make scheduling easier. I don't necessarily know what I am doing but I would still rather pick my own players.

Random draw for selection order - no snake format i.e., 1 thru 10, 1 thru 10, repeat.

League expansion sounds like a good idea.

I don't really see what's so bad about last year's draft. Sure, it took a wee while to say the least but it was completed in plenty time for the season and it's irrefutable that everyone actually got who they wanted at any given pick. I'm not very keen on the idea of a computer generated draft, even with preferred pick lists; and given that I work most evenings I'm not too sure about being able to make a live draft.

I agree. It took awhile (two weeks wasn't it?) but it worked. and it's not as if we're in a hurry with 4 months still to go till September. If we can agree a time when we all aim to be online this time it might speed it up a bit.

The draft was epic - it was good to get a bit of time to react to picks.

Why wouldn't we snake it? The person picking first would have a major advantage if we did it that way.

The reason I didn't like it is that I had to wait so long between every other pick. Using the snake approach does yield more balanced average draft picks though. For a 10-team league, everyone has an average of 75-ish, varying between 75.2 and 75.8. Even though players at each end of the snake have to wait longer they do get two quick picks, followed by a long wait. If you do the traditional approach then the variance is greater. Player one has an average pick of 71 whereas player ten has an average pick of 80. It just feels fairer since there is a fixed amount of time between each pick but the snake approach is mathematically more balanced.

I don't know if this can be avoided but the one thing that was difficult (not really difficult) about the draft was trying to figure out who was already. We had pages of lists. I think if we did a live draft then it would be a little easier to keep your cheat sheets updated. I agree with those who say it was OK because it gave people more time and we weren't in a rush. I just found it a little tedious. Sorry.

That's why a live draft against the clock would be so interesting and good fun.

If we use the ESPN game then you get a draft kit and it keeps track of all that kinda stuff for you.

I played NFL Fantasy Football last year and would be tempted to give it a shot with all the lovely folks here on .

I'm all for a live draft, I auto drafted with one team last year and ended up with a horrid team.

I'm having trouble with the predraft ranking. Changing the rankings by dragging the players over to the right doesn't seem to be working...maybe it's the ipad

Yes but unlike you I stopped my education at bachelors degree level

I have worked it out now. I can confidently say my predraft rankings are totally illogical but stacked full of my favourite players
