This match against Sunderland featuring ex Hibees Neil Martin and John Parke and former Ranger
’ Slim ‘Jim Baxter was shown live on US TV.
Neil Martin gave Sunderland an early lead, Eric Stevenson equalised before Pat Quinn -scoring his first goal in 20 months gave HIBS the lead. Jim Scott later added a third for HIBS and George Mulhall pulled one back for Sunderland to keep the TV audience on the edge of their seats. Eric Stevenson scored the winner for HIBS 15 minutes from the end to seal the deal
This match was hailed as the best of the tournament so far

Hibs opened the scoring after only two minutes through the dependable Arthur Milne. Mills equalised for Clyde on the half hour and Wallace put Clyde ahead just after half time HIBS pressed throughout the whole of the second half but they just could not find an equaliser
A young Matt Busby would make his debut for HIBS in the second leg
