I thought I'd share some good news with everyone.
Today we managed to get 30 of our orphanage children onto a train in Dnipro, and they are currently making their way across Ukraine towards Lviv in the west.
The journey is not without its dangers, so I'll wait patiently until I hear they have safely arrived in Lviv.

I’m not in the position to fly across Europe and support in the brave and admiral way you have, but would love to help somehow, through fundraising, organising supplies of clothing / food or the likes. Be great to hear how others can chip in and help. Appreciate that’s not your priority at the moment, but will keep an eye on your updates.

I find it hard to watch the news just now but huge kudos to all involved in this effort. If our government had 1 ounce of the compassion shown by Stevie et al our world would be a safer and much more humane place.
Stevie Carr and Dnipro Kids have just been mentioned in the House of Commons today.
I had the Parliament tv channel on in the background so I only got the gist of what was said. Pete Wishart, Stevie's constituency MP, explained what Stevie has been doing, and asked the Leader of the House during business questions if all remaining bureaucracy could be removed so that the orphans can get to Scotland.
Pete has already written to Patel but has not yet received a reply. The Leader undertook to follow this up and ensure Pete gets a speedy response.

I’ve just watched the clip from last night’s news. Stevie and the rest of the volunteers are absolute heroes. Genuinely in awe of the work that has gone on over the years in supporting these kids and particularly so in the last couple of weeks. The support from both the Hibs community and football rivals alike is quite special. What is sadly unfolding now in Dnipro and the suffering thats going on throughout the Country of Ukraine is nothing short of barbarism.
There are now millions of Ukranians in neighbouring Countries who may never see their homes again.
But in one,no small effort in the mass of all this, a group of caring people from our fair land, with courage,selflessness and gut determination may well have saved, and most certainly changed the lives of some who have had more than their share of suffering.

Just saw the report on the BBC 6 o'clock news. Well done guys, simple succinct answer to the question of what the government needs to do to allow Ukrainians into the UK - do it quickly and make it easy.
If you're proud to be a hibby, proud to be a hibby......To all involved over the last 15 or so years that have helped and contributed to the numerous special acts of kindness and support to these kids, whether it's been throwing a few coins in a bucket to driving vans of supplies thousands of miles, I salute you all. What a special community we are part of and will continue to be. The football part is not really that important.

Stevie's work in Dnipro has been impressive since the start, but this is another level. A big thanks for everything you've done and, for what it's worth :greengrin, I'm proud of you and everyone else involved. Best wishes and good luck to all of you.
Inspirational - providing kids with hope amongst the darkness of already complicated lives through no fault of their own.
Selfless acts, putting folks lives at risk, such as these shown by the volunteers give us hope to build on - and boy do we need it. Politics of division and hate must be rejected and humanity take a better path than the one its meandered down.
May all the blessings and good fortune shine down on the needy in their hours of desperation.

There is a reception center in Poland (Radkow I think) which again after a very slow start is being expanded to deal with the applications.
Just on the main ITV news Sally Becker from Save a Child UK, she seems to have arranged a separate coach to bring another 20 kids out of Ukraine that couldn’t get on the original coach.
She went into Ukraine and was on the coach with the kids but says it’s all down to the Dnipro kids and Stevie and she just gave them a lift.
They now have accommodation sorted near Loch Lomond to keep the kids together but just need permission to bring them in without passports.
Totally get where you are coming from. However the trouble is the folk who are genuinely deserving of some form of recognition for their charitable efforts are the sort of modest folk who will shun the limelight and if you ask them, would poo-poo any suggestion of them being recognised by an award, saying they don't do what they do for self-promotion or the badge. I don't know Stevie but I would guess there is a good chance he'd fall into that category.Quote:

Just donated - felt good to be able to give to something where I knew there are Edinburgh people on the ground doing something positive to help.
Just a small point on the honours system.
I have been involved in nominations in the past for MBEs. This would seem the most appropriate honour to aim at.
I do agree that it would be better to wait until the particular task is completed, for one thing you would then have more positive evidence. Another point is that it is good to have a wide range of written support from a variety of sources. Happy to help eg reading over drafts etc. later down the line if you just PM me.
