Pat Stanton and Alan Gordon were my first footballing heroes . Used to pretend to be them in my garden as a kid..
I always liked watching Ralph Callaghan play in our dark days of late 70s and early 80s
And present day, not our best player, even he would say that but my favourite is Lewis Stevenson ..what a model pro..always reliable and does the absolute best he can. Hard to play against . Can’t ask for much more than that
Steve Archibald
Franck Sauzee
Russell Latapy
Sir Franck and Sir David!!!
Jeez, where to begin.
O'Rourke
Stanton

McGinn
Special mention to Gray and Stevenson.
Sauzee and Latapy when I was a kid
Riordan and Murphy in my Teens
John McGinn and Boyle in my 20s
Past - Franck Sauzee. Effortless class.
Present - Really enjoy watching JDH. Very intelligent player and think he has a big future.
Best player i've ever seen - Paul Gascoigne. Could only sit back and admire him as a youngster against Hibs. Genuine world class.
Hibs players:
John McGinn
Martin Boyle
Derek Riordan
Scott Brown
Russel Latapy
Franck Sauzee
Ryan Porteous ;)
Non Hibs (obviously not a favourite, but a player who I just had to sit back and say ‘Wow’ watching him):
Henrik Larsson - I still have nightmares as a teenager watching that 0-4 game in 2004 at Easter Road. Was unplayable that day.
Sauzee

So many but these are the three I would pick.
Joe Baker
Peter Cormack
Alex Cropley
All the above but also a mention to David Murphy.

If I had to pick 3 from what I regarded as the high point I'd go first for Erich Schaedler, Pat Stanton and Jimmy O'Rourke.
I'd then refuse to disagree with any of the above but I loved all the Tornadoes, John McGinn, Rob Jones, Derek Riordan, David Gray and Lewis Stevenson.
Joe Baker was some player but I only seen him second time around.

My Hibs Heroes as a young teenager,1960s,were
Gerry Baker
Eric Stevenson
Willie Hamilton
Pal and me made a banner with Gerry Bees name on it !
My ma made him a cup of tea as well!!
Non Hibs player
Jim Baxter (a hibby) Like Hammy he was a football genius
Fave English player then, although i sang his song at Wembley.
Bobby Moore (Superstar!)
Bobby was also Jimmy O' Rourke's favourite player then too .
Jimmy's hero was Joe Baker
Joe's return to The Holy Ground saw Jimmy play alongside his hero
Dreams come true!! He loved it !
Over the years I’ve had many favourite players. For many years it was John McNamee who was the most physical player I remember. In terms of natural unfulfilled genius I go for Willie Hamilton. For club loyalty and affinity with the fans Pat Stanton and the best all round player Frank Sauzee.
As others have said any of the Tornados could qualify too. We may have had more disappointments than successes over the years I’ve watched them but this thread has reminded me of the many happy memories of talented players at Easter Road.
GGTTH
Darren Jackson was my childhood hero till he left And then a year or so along came Latapy.
Would throw Riordan in the mix for past also.
Present would have to be Boyle.
King Pat.:top marks
I haven't seen either mentioned yet but my favourite players when I first started going to matches were Ally McLeod & Jackie McNamara. 2 beacons of light in a pretty dark period.
hi BTC
Your comments had methinking of the past as do most posts on the thread for me and others to reminisce
Big John was Big John
Centres did well if they could get by or kid Big John
A stalwart
If fans think Ryan is tough, well Big John McNamee was
yer man
Thou shalt not pass
Wee story bout Willie Hamilton.
Well, Ferenc Puskas really
I was still at school when Real Madrid came to ER .
Puskas had a nephew at our school.
He, like his uncle, a Hungarian refugee, fleeing the Uprising of 1956
Puskas visited our school that week I missed him.
Was not in school when he arrived at dinnertime
No one told us ..He just turned up !!
However, main point.
Puskas was asked about Willie Hamilton.
His reply" was "Willie would not look out of place in a Real side"
A team that had recently won 5 European Cups on the bounce!!
Young Hibbys>> That is how good Willie Hamilton was!
Willie Hamilton
Joe Baker
Pat Stanton
Met pat Stanton,Jim orourke ,sadly never met Alan Gordon.playing football on a Sunday I was Jim o rourke.my late father in law talked non stop about Gordon smith,a Tanner baw player what he could do with a ball,a class act etc.I attended a sportsman dinner and Gordon smith was at the top table.after the meal and before the speakers,I asked mr.smith for his autograph, certainly he said.I asked him to write to dick best wishes from Gordon smith,I took the autograph to my father in law,he read it then asked me if it was real.yes i said ,tears ran down his face, honestly he asked ,was it from him .never seen the man so emotional.
lovely story Gogs
The late football historian and tv presenter Bob Crampsey said that if Gordon Smith had been Englsh he would have been lauded down there as had Stanley Matthews,Tom Finney et al
Some may argue that Smith was better than both the afore mentioned
It could be argued that Gordon Smith was the finest footballer Scotland produced
My dad who loved Charlie Tully and was Celtic daft would go along with Smith being the"Prince of Football"
Pat Stanton always my No 1.
Erich Schaedler, in fact all of that team.
Jackie Mac, Franck, Stevie Archibald. Keith Wright to name but a few. When I think back, Ive been blessed.
John Blackley, Jim Leighton, wow, I need to stop now
Bobby Duncan
John Madsen
Eric Stevenson
Pretty much says it for me but I would add to your second lsit of luminaries Sauzee and Ally McLeod (a hugely under-appreciated talent who got the most out of whatever application he could muster)
Virtually any of the other Tornadoes could be interchanged with Jimmy (that's not to say I didn't love Jimmy but I loved most of the rest to pretty much the same extent other than Pat and Erich who always held a special place in my heart)
Pat because he was just so graceful and something I could never aspire to be and Erich because he was hard as nails and gave it everything and as a boy of little talent that was all I had to offer)
If there is a heaven I will get to watch the Tornadoes again
Loved Having Ally MacLeod about the team because he had that mercurial talent that any Hibs team should accommodate and he came at a time where I felt we were a bit flat.
I didnt see as much of Sauzee as I'd have liked but yes he's another one.

John Blackley when I was growing up, later on Franck Sauzee, my favourite Hibs player ever.....
Pat Stanton
Ryan Porteous
Peter Cormack
Colin Stein
Joe McBride Snr
Jimmy O’Rourke
Alex Cropley
Alex Edwards
Oh hell, any of the Tornadoes
Steve Archibald
Russell Latapy
Hard to pick one out of that but going to punt Joe McBride. Something about his short time with us was just magical.
Enlightening that so many of a certain demographic don’t reach to Pat instantly. We’ve had some beautiful players.
Toss up between pat mcginlay or darren jackson for me, loved watching them play when i was growing up, would probably go for jackson, and now martin boyle
For me, I think Mickey Weir, Keith Wright, Pat McGinlay. Michael O'Neill was a fabulous player as was Darren Jackson. Then Sauzee, Latapy, Riordan, Fletcher who I started watching in the youths, then, more recently, Allan, Boyle and Nisbet. If pushed for a favourite, I think Sauzee. Just oozed class.
Zemmama was a joy to watch.
Russell Latapy
Franck Sauzee
John McGinn
perhaps not the absolute best I have seen, but Keith Weight. I wanted to be him, and as a ginger I had someone to look up to!
An impossible task but my 3 through the decades I've seen would be..
70's Stanton.. Duncan..O'Rourke
80's Best.......MacLeod..Collins
90's Crunchie..O'Neill..Wright
00's Brown..Riordan...Jones
10's Gray..Stokes..McGinn
Stanton
Weir
Wright
Kane
Sauzee
Latapy
Riordan
Boyle
Latapy
Brown
Sproule
Allan
For differing reasons (not always simply because they were our best player) have all been favourites of mine throughout my Hibs supporting career :agree:
Looking back and looking at what he's doing now - John McGinn must be up there with the best to play for us in that time.
Ally MacLeod was my boyhood hero. After that I loved wee Russell Latapy and more recently Super John McGinn.
My favourite current player is Joe Newall who has been our best player so far this season in my eyes.
Not directly related to this thread but Benji was a player (albeit a personality flawed one) who never ever got the credit he deserved in my view.
When he was on it he was a great player.
It always struck me as funny that Malonga (whom I felt the same about but had IMO similar personality traits) is warmly thought of by the Hibs support, but Benji who was instrumental in our winning a cup is never ever mentioned.
I’ve been thinking about this quite intensely and I think overall my favourite player was Ivan Sproule. The whole story is really what football is all about. I remember him coming on in the semi final against Dundee United and being in acres of space but not being trusted with the ball. From that to scoring a hat trick at Ibrox a few months later is probably one of our biggest success stories.
For sentimental reasons I've two favourite teams. Tornadoes and 21/5/16.
Individual players. Ally McLeod, Jackie Mac, Bobby Smith, John Collins, Beastie, The Goalie, Keith, Crunchie, Russell Latapy, Le God. I then had a sabbatical and have to add Scott Allan from the non 2016 lineup.
