As for the Calcutta Cup, that has been competed for since the 1870's so no modern day contrivance. What is a blatant contrivance are the South Africans, New Zealanders and Aussies in the Scotland team.
P.S. Just had a quick look at the pen pictures of the 5 uncapped players selected for Scotland's Autumn Nations Series against Fiji, South Africa, Portugal and Australia. Looks like a New Zealander, an Aussie, 2 public school boys and a Scottish guy.
