Yep. It's called fascism.

Not sure illegal immigration was an issue in Nazi Germany...
Seriously though, is Trump not just playing to the voters here in his usual inflated manner? Pledging to get tough on undocumented migration was a big vote winner for him (as it tends to be in many countries these days) and he's already reduced crossings from Mexico to a relative trickle by vastly increasing troop numbers at the border.
People hold their hands up in horror at Trump's behaviour, but the 'can you believe what he's done now' reaction doesn't really wash. Everyone knew what they were buying into by electing him. There are years of this to come (unless he dies in office).
Hear what you say, I suppose my point was a wannabe dictator transitioning from democracy to dictatorship wants something to create a disproportionate "national emergency" around to do what they do.
Tried it in south Korea recently, I doubt the states leaders in the orange guys clique have it in them to make a stand.

Journalists covering the LA protests being shot with rubber bullets.
Damn immigrants.
If the current situation doesnt deescalate in the coming days, it will be interesting to see the reaction of the police authorities and national guard. It will be a litmus test of how loyal they will be to Trump. Trump will be watching this experiment and the outcome will determine how far he thinks he can go.
As we're discussing the pros and cons of Trump as President...
I totally get the viewpoint expressed a couple of pages back about the fact that Trump's US has not (so far) invaded any other nations. In fact it's a point I raised during his last incumbency as President that, IMO, there had been much worse behaviour by previous presidents in invading multiple other countries (Iraq. Vietnam, etc), overthrowing lawfully elected leaders by covert means (e.g. in Central America) and undermining economies and businesses in countries that were supposed to be their allies.
However...
....it's very clear by now that he was held back in his first presidency by a number of 'Jackasses' (his words) that he appointed to various roles, and he's been determined to get his work done properly this time by only appointing those that are 100% loyal and never question his decisions.
In the last few months, he's done the following:
- Constantly insulted their (previous) greatest ally, Canada, with demeaning, nonsense arguments, even going so far as to describe them as a possible future '51st State'
- Openly discussed taking over Greenland, by force if necessary, and sending his representatives to the territory to pressure/scare the people of Greenland and Denmark.
- Created so-called 'retaliatory' tarrifs against almost every other nation (excluding Russia) that massively tanked the markets.
- Has sinced gone back and forward on these Tarrifs, in a form of bullying behaviour that negatively affected multiple nations, including those traditionally viewed as allies.
- Engaged in multiple instance of illegal behavour, in regard to Tarrifs etc, by giving family and friends an illegal heads-up on when it was a good time to invest (normally this would result in multi-million dollar fines, or even jail), and personally accepting bribes and other favours
- Removed USAID, and other spending, estimated to already having lead to the deaths of tens of thousands of people (who needs war?)
- Filled the Supreme Court with people that bend to his will, thereby removing the traditional separation of State and Law.... and boy has he taken advantage of that!
- Pardoned the Criminals that stormed the capitol, an event that was unprecedented in US history and lead to serious injuries and even deaths of people that were simply doing their jobs.
- Presented a bill to reduce the taxes of the richest people in the US by billions of dollars, and at the same time to reduce spending on healthcare and in poorer communities.
- Rescinded laws and government funding intended to help tackle the world's climate crisis and instead granted multiple licences for mining raw materials that are harmful to the environment.
....I could go on but I'll leave it at that for now
Hitler is not dead when Trumps walking about.
Musk saying he regrets his comments about Trump. I don’t know if he’s retracted them yet. There’s a game of 4 dimensional chess going on just now with these two barstwards.
I see a pattern that was evident in the early days of Putin's Russia, where massively rich oligarchs dared to disagree with Putin and suffered pretty serious consequences (prison, exile or mysterious deaths).
Putin's climb to power was actually bankrolled by some of these people and many of them, if they were lucky, lived to regret it.
Sound familiar?
Elon’s dad attended a summit in Russia and basically said he’d have to say sorry.
It’s all utterly depressing

He really is a complete idiot. The coming recession will be a biggy and will no doubt affect us here in the UK.

Changes are coming? 🤔 He’s left a big unanswered question there as to how he’s planning to fill these roles that were previously filled by immigrants and only receive applications from “criminals”. Will be good to see how the changes will address this. Man’s a buffoon.
I stupidly watched Fox News the other night it was about 4 in the morning our time and the reporters on that channel are crazy, one suggested she had been agitating all day and deserved it, and then another reporter walking down the street saying the agitators were being armed by mysterious people who drop of baseball bats and poles and hide them for the agitators to get to them, he then walked past a gated yard and pointed to pallets of bricks that he said had just arrived and they would be used to throw at police, it just looked like a worker’s yard and then bang, looking up in to the sky it looks like there are millions of helicopters up there and the camera panned to the sky and there was one police helicopter. :greengrin
If there are agitators, then they're more likely to be Trump’s brown shirts provoking a response from the protesters. It's a play straight out of the dictators handbook. Get your opponents to set fire to the Reichstag then introduce emergency legislation to crown yourself king and the jobs a good un.
Some shocking footage of US senator Alex Padilla in California being forcibly removed from a press conference and handcuffed by the FBI as he was about to ask a question of Secretary Noem. This is happening, in America. An elected member of the Senate. I fear to think where the USA is going to end up here
It’s a truly disturbing watch, and I note that he said afterwards that he wasn’t even arrested, despite being manhandled and handcuffed in such an aggressive manner.
We are barely six months in, and Trump will only try and increase the shock factor further and further. It will undoubtedly lead to some truly atrocious things happening.
I'm surprised there hasn't been more outcry about that. She was standing with her back to the police line offering no sort of threat to anyone and he shot her from close range with a weapon that is described as non-lethal but has been known to be lethal. In a civilised country he would be immediately suspended and subsequently charged with assault at the very least.
She's not the only journalist to be shot by "law" enforcement either - Nick Stern a UK journalist needed emergency surgery to remove one of those rounds from his leg (proof in itself that they could be lethal) and at least two other journalists have been shot - one apparently has a massive bruise on his forehead.

Americn's making a stand against this wannabe dictator who was caught on mic saying he wants his subjects to be more like North Koreans. :faf:
Trump at the G7: Russia supporting ****wit.
Trudeau wasn't even in office when Russia was thrown out of G8.Quote:
Putin speaks to me, he doesn't speak to anybody else, because he was very insulted when he got thrown out of the G8. He was thrown out by Trudeau, who convinced one or two people, along with Obama ... he doesn't even speak to the people who threw him out. And I agree with him.
Reporter: Tulsi Gabbard testified in March that the intelligence community said Iran wasn't building a nuclear weapon
TRUMP: I don't care what she said
(Gabbard is his choice as Director of National Intelligence (DNI), which is the executive head of the United States Intelligence Community and which directs and oversees the National Intelligence Program. All 18 IC agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, report directly to the DNI. Other federal agencies with intelligence capabilities also report to the DNI, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation.)
I wake up every morning expecting to hear that World War III has started overnight.
The big orange guy is making it so much about him and what he decides, or he (I)might or might not do that there's no chance it'll be called World War 3.
Some sort of title incorporating the words Trump and Donald seems much more likely.
A lot of war talk for a draft dodger. Guess he'll be okay if someone else is doing the fighting.

I don't understand the ww3 chat. Who will be fighting who. Russia's full force can't take small Ukraine. Israel has free reign of the sky over Iran and Israel. China isn't interested in the middle east or Europe. Who is fighting against the G7.
India and Pakistan will always have wee groans with each other
I can see China invading Taiwan but the west won't get involved in that militarily
I have a house in France and we are thinking of moving there Shortly.
If there was WWW3, would I get called up by France? If I got called up by the UK would I have to come back to the UK?
Was wondering what would happen!

Vance got suspended from Bluesky 12 mins after his first post :hilarious JD Vance gets suspended from Bluesky 'just 12 minutes after first post': reports
How old are you? I looked into this last year when it was being suggested that the UK might start conscripting folk and the consensus online seemed to be that it would be unlikely they'd call up anyone beyond their early 40s. I'm 40 so kind of straddle the top of that range.
I think it was 41 for much of WW2, then it increased to 50-odd when they needed more people.
41 this year! Was gutted turning 40 but could turn out to be good!
I just don’t know if they could force me to return if I was in France and had the correct visa etc. At the same time, not sure the French could force me to fight for them?
Hopefully hypothetical of course, unbelievable that we even have to contemplate such things nowadays
Relax, there won't be any need for callups etc, Hearts will have this covered.
They'll raise an army from their legion of fans, then march them over to the war zone, they'll be victorious in everything they do and then they'll be back home victorious before you can say, Albert Kidd.
GGTTH
Im surprised people are actually thinking about this. Who is it we'll be fighting against. Russia can't fight anyone else bar Ukraine. China isn't even at tension with NATO. All other nations have zero chances. NATO has 3.5 million soldiers how many of them need to die before they call up random 40 year olds.

Tulsi Gabbard now saying Iran could produce Nuclear Weapons "within weeks" :faf: no real pure comedy
Tulsi Gabbard says Iran could produce nuclear weapons "within weeks", months after she testified before Congress that the country was not building them.
The US Director of National Intelligence said her March testimony - in which she said Iran had a stock of materials but was not building these weapons - had been taken out of context by "Dishonest Media"
Her change of position came after Donald Trump said she was "wrong" and that intelligence showed Iran had a "tremendous amount of material" and could have a nuclear weapon "within months".
Apparently Pakistan is considering nominating Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize.

he does appear to repeat it quite often, i love the wee charts that both he and Trump use explaining to the masses

I don’t believe them. They see how weak Iran is and are taking a chance in the hope the regime collapses. It’s a long shot but I think that’s what they are going for.
The US getting involved would be a disaster. And the UK should stay well clear but let’s face it, we love a bit of war in the Middle East.

All eyes on the opinion polls in the US now. If there's a swing in favour of the orange one now, then strap yourself in for more of what we've just seen.
He wanted a photo opportunity where he looked a bit tough for his cult followers and it looks like he's got it.
UN reporting no increase in radiation around any of the sites bombed so I guess the orange dictator just dismisses them as fake news and moves on to the next big "deal" that takes his personal fancy.

Doesn't mean the nuclear facilities weren't hit. Problem is the Fordo facility is reportedly buried so deep that only the US has the bombing capacity to reach it. If they haven't fully destroyed it they'll likely return unless Iran agrees to come back to the negotiating table.
Yip. He lacks the focus for anything long term. The Iranians just needs to wait him out. The Israelis are a much bigger threat to their regime with their targeting of the top generals and the IRGC. Trump claiming there is no longer a threat will probably not help the Israelis continue that though.

This article illustrates just how hard it is to destroy the Fordo facility, even if deploying 'bunker busters'.
So Trump and Israel break more international law. Way to go.
