Hyper inflation.
Dodgy Russian connnections.
Leadership at the top :faf:
Divided party.
Massive debts.
Winter power cuts.
Strikes.
Rubbish piling high in the steeets.
We’ve been gaslit. And if anyone is genuinely spending time worryingit would have been worse under Corbyn, they’ve been doubly gaslit.

I'm not thinking that. I'm wondering how Labour would be doing in the polls, how far they would be ahead etc.
He'd still be getting portrayed as a dangerous bogey-man etc but would all that be put to one side because of Truss and the mini-budget?
I've not reached any conclusions, but it's interesting to think about how JC would have performed throughout the aftermath of Brexit, Covid, Johnson and the current chaos.

Yes I agree. Thinking about hypothetical scenarios is a good thing.
I particularly worry that by 2024 when and if the Tories are gone, the UK may be so badly gutted and damaged, and the gulf between rich and poor so vast, it will take a generation to properly fix.
Can you imagine? Going to a protest, (it could be as inoccuous as fans congregate outside a ground demanding the sacking of an unpopular manager, theoretically). You are then put on a list controlling where you can and can't go, who you can and can't associate with, you have to wear a tag. There's no legal process. Its extrajudicial.
Just to be clear and to the people who think "we are still better than most other countries so don't worry", the Chinese do this is Xinjiang to the Uighurs, and there is more right to protest in Iran. I suppose its true that you have no rights at all to protest in Pyongyang, but is that where we set the bar these days?
PMQ's - mega cringe.
I mean it's nice to bash the Tories but this is just an embarrassment.
Pensioners should be worried as she has just committed to keeping the triple lock. [emoji51]

'Militant' getting trawled out again as their preferred epithet for trade unions. Make no mistake, if they could they would make them illegal or at least neuter them into a state of powerlessness.
Tories that dont want fracking have been told its the equivalent of a confidence motion in the government tonight, 3 line whip. So fracking, with all those gas company donations flowing into Tory coffers, is now as firm a Govt policy as support for Ukraine, or the royal family, or capitalism. But they fought the 2017 election on the exact opposite policy. Zac Goldsmith will be turning in his grave (coughcough), i mean, life peerage. Lancashire with quite a few Red Wall new Tory MPS, will be the guinea pig. Dont drink the water oop there.

Not getting any easier for her.

Who's driving the fracking thing? Is it Rees Mogg or is this a personal Truss thing? It's bizarre: it's been tried, it doesn't work well in UK geology and the public hate it. Why would you push on given the current omnishambles?
Same with the solar farms thing but the opposite way round. It's just plain weird bad politics. :dunno:
Cruella Braverman sacked as Home Secretary

Grant 20 Names Shapps looks like the replacement
Edit: sorry looks like resigned

Braverman gone.

Actually, weirdly, the same Guardian article on my phone has a different paragraph in the middle of it to what appears on my laptop. One says she was sacked, one implies she resigned.
The tories are basically triggers broom
Another Tory MP has said that he no longer supports Liz Truss as prime minister.
William Wragg says he has written to Graham Brady to say he has no confidence in the PM.
Brady is the chair of the 1922 committee of backbench Conservative MPs, and he's the person who collects letters from his fellow Tory MPs who want the PM to go.
Under Conservative Party rules, Truss is safe from a confidence vote for a year after entering office - but the rules could be changed, theoretically, if enough MPs want it.
Wragg said he wanted to vote with Labour on this evening's motion on fracking - but couldn't as he didn't want to be suspended from the parliamentary Tory party (known as losing the whip).
The government has told Tory MPs that they must not vote with Labour on the motion.
Wragg said in the Commons that he didn't want to lose the whip - or indeed his own position as vice-chair of the 1922 committee - as the letter he has sent to Brady would no longer count
Hard to keep up. There would be uproar if a bowling club was ran like this

NEW: what a tangled web they weave… Sources say Javid was in running for Home Sec after massive row between Suella and PM last night about relaxing visas - but forced out one of her closest advisers this morning so now likely to be Shapps

Tory MPs absolutely incredulous that they're being told they will lose the whip if they don't vote for the fracking motion which breaks the 2019 Tory manifesto.
And I don't get the impression chief whip Wendy Morton has good answers to obvious questions
There is some irony to the fact that her departure was announced by the Guardian.
Over the last few days, journalists have been hurriedly preparing their political obituaries for Prime Minister Truss just as we did towards the end of Theresa May and Boris Johnson’s terms in office.
In preparing just such a piece I was looking back at the Conservative leadership hustings in Perth, only a couple of months ago. I found a bit that really struck a chord.
I had asked her what help she would provide for families and businesses struggling with soaring energy bills and she dismissed Labour’s six-month plan as a sticking plaster.
I pressed her for details of what she would do, but she said she couldn’t write the next Budget at that stage – in August – so I suggested she was asking people to vote for her and see what they get.
Indignantly she said: “I can assure you that is not the way my Government would work. What I believe is in appointing competent people who get the job done.
Two months on, the two-year support deal for domestic and business users which was the centrepiece of Prime Minister Truss’ first chancellor’s not-so-mini-Budget has been slashed to just six months by her second chancellor.
As a former health secretary, I suppose Jeremy Hunt has some experience of sticking plasters, and the financial markets seem to think he is more competent than his predecessor.
The very incompetent grant shapps returning to make a complete **** of this job too.

Every time fracking is mentioned, it is always followed by 'energy security' and 'Putins War in Ukraine', as justification. It seems to be all they think they need. I can't see any communities anywhere supporting fracking, and for that reason I can't see any prospective MP or local authority supporting it either. It will either require pushing through without the local consultation they are promising, or ridiculous levels of pork-barrelling and financial sweeteners to those areas in the form of grants or infrastructure projects, the means for which the UK treasury is clearly lacking. It would be a disaster politically before we even start on the science.
A fraud and a con-man.

She's brought in Shapps? But she sacked him from his job when she was made leader, expressly because he supported Sunak in the runoff:confused: They are enemies. There's no way this is her decision, the country is being ruled by tories operating from the shadows. Its a farce.
Dominic Cummings poisoning the well once more:
Quote:
given Gvt docs, incl OFF-SEN, are routinely circulated by top no10 & CABOFF officials by gmail and whatsapp DAILY, the idea that sending a draft WMS via gmail = sacking/resignation offence is laughable.
clearly fired by PM / Hunt
Meanwhile, a very few Tory MPs are starting to post that they will not be following the 3 line whip and will not vote in favour of fracking tonight. It seems there is more drama to be played out today ...
Strong and stable shambles.
Weird hill to die on for the tories making this a 3 line whip. Almost everyone thinks no fracking will actually get approved anywhere
CSkidmoreUK
As the former Energy Minister who signed Net Zero into law, for the sake of our environment and climate, I cannot personally vote tonight to support fracking and undermine the pledges I made at the 2019 General Election.
I am prepared to face the consequences of my decision
@Olliecole
ANOTHER. Tory MP Tracey Crouch also prepared to lose the whip tonight over fracking. The government have made tonight a confidence vote
💥 NUMBER 3: Angela Richardson - who’s already called for Truss to go - now prepared to lose the whip over tonight’s vote

Suella Braverman was sacked because WMS she shared was deemed highly sensitive - it related to relaxing immigration rules & had significant implications for OBR
No 10 only learned of it after she cc’d wrong person onto email in which she shared it
4 chancellors and 3 home secretaries since 2020. That's some going, and still some think this is strong and stable.
Why is if still 'normal' to use private (Gmail possibly the worst security @ffs) email addresses for official documents (any security marking)?
It should be illegal with jail time!
What time is the vote tonight? And can it be viewed live?
Have to schedule my evening.....

They appear to be debating it now. Only a handful there though. Found this and appears to be 7pm vote. https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/fr...idence-1920313
Small fish are as important to the post brexit UK economy as Cheese and the Chinese pork markets, Liz is bouncing back.
She is heading out with a very small fishing rod to make a start. Maybe gazza will show up with a few cans and some sandwiches.

They don't know what they are doing. The minister defending the fracking change, never seen him before, has given a few different answers to whether this is essentially a no-confidence vote. What a total shambles.
No longer a confidence vote, as govt about to lose. Another u turn.
Chief Whip has now resigned.
This all has to stop.
More of a shambles than Boris's last couple of days.
She has to step down within the week. This can't be allowed to continue.
What an utter farce. A delay in the no lobby. Just make them press a button and vote so it is immediately recorded and counted. It's the 21st century ffs
Chief whip resigned seemingly. The no's had it so presumably Labour lost. Judging by the faces of teh Tories they never had a clue what they were voting for and went for their usual self preservation preference. Seemingly pressure being put on MPs to vote No up to including manhandling
This has to come to an end soon. It has to.
Chris Bryant claiming Tories got involved in dragging MPs into no lobby. Said JRM and Therese Coffey were involved.
This lot will be toast soon. I'm hoping the straw that breaks the camels back is a full scale swedge between Tory backbenchers and the cabinet with Rees-Mogg taking a really dull yin, maybe a broken nose or some teeth knocked out.

Government is in by far the most Chaos I have ever seen. Every time it looks like it’s time for a new prime minister it gets worse. We would have been better off with Theresa May FFS and failing that having kept Boris.
If only the stupid Tory members would have done what any normal portion of the population would have done and but Rishi Subak in place until the next GE.
GE badly needed right now but not going to happen because the Tory’s know they would be wiped out on an undecided level. How could have predicted that two years ago.
What an utter ****ing shambles.
So angry.
Just catching up on the last few pages.
Some times we’re living through.
Am I the only one that hears franking machine and mail and thinks of Quadrophenia/ Phil Daniels, the sample of which appears in Flowered Up’s Weekender?
Adds a different slant to some of these resignations anyway.
The British Banana Republic. What a ****show.
Plenty Tories abstaining, including Liz Truss. Rumours she fired the chief whip in the division lobby. This is utterly mental.
Detestable human beings
Detestable politicians
the Detestables
pleasant seeing fascist cruella braverman gone
Stems from voting for and voting in the Brexit mob. They only had one area of expertise, gaslighting. When it comes to the day to day of running a country shouting about lefties, remoaners and brown people doesn't cut it.
