Four weeks ago, Trump terminated funding for legal services to support unaccompanied children. Now, children as young as 4 years old are having to represent themselves in court when facing deportation.

I can't believe that this is the America that Americans want - some will, no doubt, but there will be plenty of sensible Americans utterly aghast at what is happening to their country.
We're seeing a wannabe dictator pushing the boundaries to see what he can get away with more and more every day. Sooner or later the law will catch up with him.
I really hope so, and soon. Must admit I would have liked to have heard more about Americans protesting and pushing back against this. I’m not fully over American news to be honest so I may have missed something. From what I do see though it appears only AOC and Bernie Sanders are the only visible Democrats trying to push back. Depressing state of affairs.
I reckon it'll be a combination of public protest leading to some sort of joint action from the Supreme Court, the military and the police that will eventually do for him. Before that happens though there will need to be some sort of atrocity where he clearly goes too far and it's not something that can be painted to be trivial, like jeopardising national security, overriding the law in his treatment of an immigrant or any of the other appalling stunts that he seems to be able to pull daily and get away with.
It'll be pretty scary.
I simply cannot see him pulling off his plan and forever changing America, or even just surviving 4 more years of this.
It won't be immediate though. I think they're going to have had to have experienced the pain of the consequences of the current actions first and that won't happen overnight.

Some news on the potential Trade Deal between the UK and the US.
Trump has 'hinted' to Starmer that Turnberry hosting the UK Open would be 'very helpful'.
I can't give a newspaper link, this is from a senior member of management at Turnberry (who was apparently raging about how absurd it was)
Old news, but repeated again this morning…… ‘Musk to step back from working for Trump to focus attention on his loss making car company. Does he really think this will change folks’ minds about future purchases. He surely sees that he has done irreparable damage and turning back the clock isn’t going to change things.
Trump doesn’t get it. Some things are worth fighting for, and dying for.
What an insulting rant of a post.
Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is boasting on the front page of The Wall Street Journal that, "Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There's nothing to talk about here." This statement is very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia in that Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion. Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian Territory but, if he wants Crimea, why didn't they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired? The area also houses, for many years before "the Obama handover," major Russian submarine bases. It's inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy's that makes it so difficult to settle this War. He has nothing to boast about! The situation for Ukraine is dire — He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country. I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever. The statement made by Zelenskyy today will do nothing but prolong the "killing field," and nobody wants that! We are very close to a Deal, but the man with "no cards to play" should now, finally, GET IT DONE. I look forward to being able to help Ukraine, and Russia, get out of this Complete and
Total MESS, that would have never started if I were President!
Trump sells out Ukraine, says "I have nothing to do with Russia".
We must cancel his trip to the UK.

Disappointing numbers on that one, but there are several others - a pity they can't be consolidated. In any case, it looks like there will be plenty turning up to "welcome" him if he does come.
Eureka!
The penny has finally dropped Donald Trump today finally admitted that the way tariffs work is that you add the tariff onto the price of a product and the product doesn’t sell factor in the increased cost of parts and components and that is how you get a recession folks !

Absolutely. Putin can’t have peace because his economy would collapse (it’s going to anyway). They can’t move back to a peace time economy without a banking collapse. All the arms makers have borrowed trillions of rubies that they have zero chance of ever paying back.

JD Vance's Easter visit to Rome clogged its streets with a 40-vehicle entourage. He also demanded the Coliseum be closed so he and his family could tour it alone. Tourists who properly booked slots in advance got screwed.
He's apparently the first to make that demand.
Then he didn't bother to show up.

I’m not sure there’s much he does understand.
I always used to think that whilst his actions were stupid, they were calculated and deliberate, arguably intelligent even but in a sinister way. I flip flop between stupidity and sinister actions, but for the last few weeks I think I’m gradually starting to just think he is genuinely thick as mince.
I work with someone who has a child studying at university in the US. They are terrified that if they come home for a visit that this will happen when they re-enters the US. They also clears down devices daily and have been told to avoid any criticism of the government as part of their university work just in case.
He is the type of person that concentrates on the last thing he heard. Boris Johnson did this too. Zero strategy unless it’s good for Donald Trump other than that he’s not interested.
He is being led by some dangerous individuals. Crazy Economic and faith based kooks. And as long as he polls well in his base he’s happy. Thing is our system allows for nutters to be replaced, and replaced quickly (see Liz Truss). The Americans don’t have such a system. Especially when the GOP is full of MAGA nuts or moderates who are too scared to put their heads over the parapet.
Other problem is there’s no opposition. Every General Election in the UK we always have an opposition. It may be weakened, but there’s a leader to coalesce around. Not so in America.

One day's notice to change all your working arrangements.Quote:
The Department of Homeland Security is halting policies that allowed some employees to work flexible arrangements, giving workers less than a day’s notice to start a five-day, in-person schedule.
“All employees are expected to report to their assigned duty station five days a week, beginning tomorrow April 28, 2025,” says an internal email.
And there we are, they're actually going along with it.

I don’t say this to be facetious but I honestly don’t know how anyone, and I include folk with only a bare minimum grasp of the English language, can listen to him talk and conclude anything other than he’s a ****ing moron.
He hasn’t the brain to be sinister and make it look accidental. He’s an evil, narcissistic, ****ing idiot.
This is an adult businessman who talked about windmills giving you cancer, about injecting yourself with bleach to cure Covid, who thought electric boats would electrocute you at sea, who calls everything beautiful, who is a pathological liar, a sex offender, a fraudster…
He’s a ****ing idiot. No question about it.
It takes one monologue from him for you to understand how stupid the fat **** is. He can barely string a coherent sentence together, he’s an imbecile.
It’s absolutely mental that he’s found himself as president twice.
And what does all that say about the people that voted him in, some of these people are absolutely bonkers who have clearly been brainwashed in to believing he would deliver for the people of America and he has brought carnage and folk are still backing him, the folk who never voted for him now must be terrified if they speak out they could end up in prison and lose everything, scary times and it will only get worse with him.
The schooling system in the US mirrors US society, they have the best and the worst. Trump actually talks like a huge amount of US citizens and they feel he is representative of them.
Same in the UK, I recently had an extended chat with a high ranking UK politician who is by no means like Trump but comes from a very working class background, whilst eloquent they have a very strong regional dialect. They have come under scrutiny from the UK's right wing press for drinking in a wine bar or how they dress, but every time they attack them their support feels like they are being attacked. This is the same with Farage and others of his ilk, the more their lies are called out the more their support feel their ideals are under attack and the more they stand behind those they feel represent their viewpoint.
Sometimes what we find distasteful in politicians is exactly that what attracts others to them.
The Donald is a convicted felon fraudster and bankrupt ( imagine a casino going bankrupt? ) should be nowhere near the White House the State Pen would be more appropriate

It's not politics anymore, this has gone way beyond that - and that's why I can see no way back.
I posted previously about Trump giving people license to be their worst selves. That's what his whole movement is all about. He is utterly shameless and allows his supporters to be too.
They don't have political points of view that can be rationally argued against. This is their identity, their entire sense of self - they are MAGA. Nothing will ever change that, certainly not anything Trump says or does - regardless of how negatively it affects them or the country.
Their worldview, thanks to Trump, is that everyone not in their circle is a dangerous enemy that must either bend to their will, or be subject to their rights being removed. They are there to be bullied and taken advantage of, and any suffering they endure is to the enjoyment of MAGA. A recent example of that was seeing Trump and Bukele smugly laughing at the fate of the El Salvadorian man who had been wrongly imprisoned.
The official government Twitter accounts are now essentially troll accounts, in the vein of Fox News, and are all geared towards "owning the libs". A huge swathe of the US population are now completely brainwashed cult members. Empathy simply does not exist in their world, and their whole society will breakdown as a result of it.
There is no "almost" and there is no way back:

I heard it recently described as “sado-populism” which I thought was fairly apt. It’s definitely a sort of populism and the bond that exists between the followers seems to be an enjoyment of cruelty towards the weak, or outsiders.
Folk I know from where I grew up (small town Scotland) love Trump. I hesitate to call them mates any more, but they all seem to have the common characteristic of being horrible ***** too. It’s a bond of cruelty and a total inability to make the sort of decision that leads you to make your own life better.
When you hear him talk, the nonsense he spouts, but the US media don’t hold him to account at all, he’s never challenged on anything he says, so he can make statements of outright lies and propaganda, and nothing is said to counter that.
The media hear aren’t much better, but I don’t think they’re quite as bad.
I think there are plenty people calling him out for his lies, the problem is that the media you refer to is no longer dominant. I think that social media is way more important and it’s only now that democrats are starting to realise this. Touring the CNN, MSNBC etc studios is no longer the most effective way to reach people. It’s through Tik Tok, X, YouTube, Bluesky and podcasts. Or you go direct like Bernie and AOC and hold massive rally’s which are then clipped and played on those platforms.
The biggest podcast in the world right now is anti Trump so it’s not like there is nobody speaking out against him.

I hope the UK Government don’t bow to his pressure to give Turnberry an Open
It’s a beautiful course, in a lovely part of the world, but please no!
The nonsense, stupid divisive policies and lies are the point. The more emotive and incredulous the better.
Meanwhile any semblance of legitimate governance is eroded further and the oligarchs keep getting richer, faster.

I think in the long run you stand up for the UK economy by taking the Canadian approach rather than the Starmer approach. There is a lot to be said for self respect.
Starmer is going to make the King of Canada roll out the red carpet for the man who wants to invade it.

I just have a problem with doing deals with the devil and giving bullies what they've wanted all along.
If holding the Open at Turnberry turned Donald Trump into an adult who behaved normally then it would be a small price to pay and well worthwhile.
It wouldn't. He's a dick, and the whole world needs to stand together and stand up to him - even if part of that tactic involves sending Starmer as his pal to cuddle up to him nauseatingly at times and let him think he's getting his own way.
We've got "cards" - holding the open at Turnberry, trips to visit the King etc. These cards should be used to extract the absolute maximum not just for the UK but the entire world and not given away cheaply. Unless we were to be receiving an awful lot, these "Trump cards" should be kept in our pocket.

A woman says her family’s fresh start in Oklahoma turned into a nightmare after federal immigration agents raided their home, taking their phones, laptops, and life savings – even though they were not the suspects the agents were looking for.
The agents had a search warrant for the home, but the suspects listed on the warrant do not live in the house.
The woman who actually lives in the house had just moved to Oklahoma City from Maryland with her family about two weeks earlier.
