this capitulation is just bloody awful, disgraceful bending over for Trump Trump cancels executive order against law firm after $40m promise - BBC News
Trump's order last week had cancelled contracts with the firms citing Trump's orders to wipe out any initiatives aimed at Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) within the federal government.
The Truth Social post also included a statement from Mr Karp, who said: "We are gratified that the President has agreed to withdraw the Executive Order concerning Paul, Weiss. We look forward to an engaged and constructive relationship with the President and his Administration."
Many in the legal community have expressed outrage over the deal, which one lawyer said was a "sad day for the legal industry".
Marc Elias, a former Perkins Coie partner and a top lawyer for Democrats, assailed the agreement in a post on social media platform Bluesky.
"Paul Weiss, didn't just bend a knee, it set a new standard for shameful capitulation," he wrote. "This is a stain on the firm, every one of its partners, and the entire legal profession."
Soon after Trump made the announcement, Rachel Cohen, an associate at the Skadden Arps legal firm, resigned in a blistering company-wide email condemning the agreement.

Comic Creator RE Burke: Her Visa Story
Historically I absolutely love the USA. I’ve always enjoyed visiting and have had family in various parts of the country all my life.
The idea of passing up a chance to visit is pretty much anathema but I don’t think I can go back until it changes.
Apart from anything else - I’ve had some robust conversations re Trump on WhatsApp. A random check including confiscation of phone could probably land me in hot water. Not a risk worth taking in the current climate, and that’s a white man saying that.
I wonder how many of their industries are currently being savaged by the actions of this regime? Tourism? Defence? Motor manufacture?
Social media is awash with similar stories at the moment. If this was any other country treating its visitors like this, then governments world wide would be reacting with outrage. It all fits the picture that is unfolding in front of us, next we'll see restrictions in freedom of the press then they'll go after American citizens deemed undesirable. Once they get away with one despicable policy, they'll move on to the next like boiling frogs in an ever expanding move towards total control. Thus far I see no real resistance.
I'd rather see us distancing ourselves in every way possible. Reciprocate treatment of innocent US citizens would make us as bad as them and only give credibility to Trump's claims that everyone is against them. Like Brexiteers, MAGA cult members would see mistreatment of Americans living abroad as acceptable collateral damage.
I get stopped every time I go to the US. Not just stopped but carted off to a seperate zone beside a lot of dodgy looking folks .
First time it was with my in laws. My father in law was saying to my wife I must have something in my background that is dodgy.
Turns out it’s because I have a very common name and there is a few people with my name banned from the US.
No chance im going now!

Some absolutely cracking clips on this thread.
Trump knows nothing about the report.
Hesgeth discredits the journalist and says no one texted war plans.

The ineptitude to allow the group chat incident to happen is truly staggering.
It truly is, Simon Marks on LBC saying that one of them has their auto-delete on when ALL government communication should be archived.
Heads should roll for this, but of course this is Trumps America, where he knows nothing and as a result nothing will happen.
Russia, China and everyone else will be laughing at this.
I've seen an alternative explanation... which is that it is a very deliberate mistake and leak, which allows certain opinions and views to be aired to the public around the globe.
That obviously suggests competence, tact and strategic intelligence on behalf of those involved so I don't believe that explanation. It'll gain momentum amongst a certain, expected, demographic though.
I'm 100% of the belief that they're a shower of imbeciles who don't have a clue what they're doing and that this is the sort of thing that happens when loyalty and compliance are rewarded over competence and smarts.
And also - that we better get used to it.
If you think about who the Trump administration target most of their communications at... the content of these messages is 100% aligned with their usual messaging.
So whilst it's embarrassing on a national security level, it's not embarrassing or inconsistent on any other level ie Vance chucking a pro-Ukraine strop, there being pro DEI messages, slagging of the big boss or the like. They probably don't even care about the national security stuff as they rarely appear to be a serious regime anyway as opposed to bunch of cretins.
Still - hear hooves, think horses, not zebras. It's most likely incompetence.
It's incompetence.
They don't need to do subtlety, this is a president who boasted about grabbing women by the p****, a convicted criminal, a sex offender, a fraudster, a racist. A guy who pardoned people who stormed the White House and humiliated a peer visiting the White House to make a point.
Trump's whole image centres on being the one who decides what happens, who sees himself as untouchable no matter what.
He doesn't need to accidently leak anything, he can say it out loud and idiots lap it up.
These are incompetents, there's no doubt about it imho.
I can't make my mind up on this one.
They are so incompetent it wouldn't be a shock if it was an error. On the other hand doing it deliberately while pretending it was a mistake seems exactly the kind of thing a moron would do and think was clever.
They are now claiming it wasn’t classified which gives the journalist free rein to publish the lot. Not smart.

Seems like a terrific foreign policy idea to tell the "enemy" in unclassified form what you are going to to to them and when and at the same time let would be hostile groups have the names of the decision makers as well.
Simultaneously slagging off allies whose territory, information and goodwill you actually do need is so Trump/Vance.
Sent from my SM-A750FN using Tapatalk
Someone has to classify it as such. Plans for a military op should, under military rules, be termed as "classified". So they are showing their incompetence from that angle.
Trump now blaming the app and saying there was some fault with it.
Scrambling around with a multitude of excuses - doesn't seem like they were playing 5D chess at all. More like they are just chumps, totally unqualified for the jobs divvied out to them, and their only special skill being loyalty to the Orangutan-Jesus.
Sent from my SM-A528B using Tapatalk
To be honest, some of the clowns they've assembled are so egregiously wrong for the job - or public office of any sort - that I'm not sure they're actually meant to be able to manage.
I'm never comfortable looking for conspiracy, but I'm struggling to come up with anything other than, for whatever reason, they're there
to break stuff.
Typical Trump, deny responsibility, blame everyone else.He has done this all his life, the freak.

The relationship we had/have with the US needs put on ice until the adults take control again.
Like Ross and Racheal in Friends - ironically a very popular US export - we need a break.
Something is happening with these tariff policies, he's either trying to crash the economy on purpose - maybe the interest he is due on his loans is up for renewal. I can't help but think there are some very wealthy people in America who are betting on this happening and when it does they will make fortunes. Big Short style.
Crash economy = widespread rioting = marshall law = Trump is King forever?
The other alternative is he really is just insane and doesn't know what tariffs actually mean for ordinary people - not that he'd give a **** if he did know.
9 weeks of Trumps presidency and already it has been more mental than the collective whole of his first term.
I'd originally thought that it might be a decent time to have adults like Starmer and co in charge during this Trump era vs some of the cretins we've had in recent years.
They're in danger of dithering into "weak" territory now though, which isn't what you want when bullies start chucking their weight around.
Never thought I’d hear myself saying this but I wish somebody would shoot that MTG.
She’s absolutely vile and a disgrace to humanity.
As is most of the new administration to be honest. Every day is just sickening

Talking of shooting...
A reporter interjected during this and she asked, where are you from. America. Ok what’s your question. Just answer her question in full.
Credit to Goldberg for call their bluff abd printing then and also for not revealing the undercover operative who by all accounts was mentioned by name in one of these messages.
Discredit, deflect and distract is what every single one of his new team seem to do with ease.
The sad thing is that this absolutely works with their supporters, they lap it up.
Goldberg was called a sleazebag and a loser by Trump and a liar and **** by others and trumpers absolutely love it.
See he’s now opening up coal mines for “good clean coal” because wind doesn’t look good and kills all the birds apparently.
Need him to hold firm on the tariffs this time. Only when he crashes their economy will Americans turn on him.

So it’s back to Greenland for Trump and co today. Dropping hints that Russia and China are interested in Greenland. Planting the seed in their supporters sparse brains and those hanging on their every single word.
Vance today :
Greenland is extremely vulnerable right now and thinks Greenlanders will want to partner with the US despite opinion polls showing widespread opposition from the local population to US governance.

As Hibs fans I reckon we should be against the threats made against a place called Greenland.
