What does it have to do with Hibs?
Ive never known a song, flag, strip or anything to with Hibs having a thistle.

Not convinced judging by the photos with the players.
The kit looks good in the promo video, but that has had some treatment to it in the edit.
A slimmer , white colour would had better.

Hibs are an Edinburgh football club, Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland, the thistle is an emblem of Scotland, therefore a thistle on the back of a a Scottish football club who will be, hopefully, playing a number of games in Europe has a lot to do with hibs.
Would you have said the same if it was a saltire or rampant lion?
Doing a complete map overlay on to the current images of folk wearing it would be tricky as you'd need to warp the map image to match parts of the strip that are curved/creased. Once there's a good image of the shirt laid flat it should be doable.
For now it's not too difficult to figure places out just by comparing side-by-side with Google Maps or whatever, particularly once you establish a few obvious landmarks – e.g. the big empty squares above the J are the Botanics/Inverleith Park, big area under the Utilita house is Arthur's Seat/Holyrood Park, Waverley is easy to spot etc. Probably a pain on a phone mind.
But the point of football club identity - and branding - is to differentiate, to stand out, to assert what makes your club different to the rest.
Picking an emblem with no previous attachment, that is literally the name of some other clubs we compete with, on the flimsy pretext, the same flimsy pretext that could apply to all our competitor clubs is just odd.
We have 3 emblems already, adding a 4th for no reason seems pointless and manufactured.
Its a Hibs strip ffs, not a Scotland strip, or an Edinburgh Thistle strip.

What’s with showing all sorts of pictures but none with the full kit?
Standard launch requirement.
Given this was one of the first posts I presume it will be pretty close to this
Maybe we should’ve stitched a Midge into the collar
Surely the thistle is a nod to the national team playing in a major competition again? Not got an issue with it, as some have also said we're representing the nation in Europe this season so :dunno:
Best strip since 15/16
The whole thing is worth it just for the reaction from the big teams fans. Biting everywhere 😂
Beyond bizarre that a wee thistle on the back is causing so much concern. Actually think it's a classy touch for a club representing Scotland in European competition.
Looks good.
Jamie Murphy posted he was wearing a medium in the photo and the shirts are a small fit.
can't be the same every year, they have done a couple things which are unique and make it different to the other "same as" style strips these strip companies usually do.
well done hibs for doing something different - a breath of fresh air and have what we all want green top white sleeves.
I think the strip is a cracker, I also like the thistle I had no idea about the thistle emblems of the 50s so that was interesting it also reminds me a little of the old baw and crown badge we had back in the 80s
It's so ***** that hearts fans have a thread about it on boakback.
Oh no, we better bin it
I really like it to be honest - the map is a lovely touch without looking garish.
I'd love to see a black away strip with a white version of the map and some green trims.
I dont hate the thistle, i dont hate many things- i just prefer a Hibs top to be related to Hibs, and its 146 years of history.
A thistle is fine if your Partick Thistle, or ICT, or Buckie Thistle, or Edinburgh Thistle.
I just dont, nor have i ever, associated it with Hibs, anymore than i do whisky, jacobites, bonnie prince charlie shortbread. Its not mentioned in any songs, never seen it on flags, official or unofficial.
But thats just my take, others are available and equally valid 👍
big fan of the thistle. clearly they looked here for inspiration for the 2021/22 UBER FAN [emoji23]

Just woke up new kit looks class.
Ive never seen a Hibs top with a thistle on it, but if you associate that with Hibs, then thats your call 👍
Didnt think this would be as thorny a subject, but obviously loads of people have for years seen a thistle motif and thought, yeah, thats Hibs, thats a Hibs thistle, the Edinburgh Jags. Im obviously the odd one out.
Anyway, loads of people like the strip, so job done.
A little bit from the EN reporter also. For those who maybe interested
🧐 Seen a few Hibs fans wondering about the relevance of the thistle on the new home top. Not 100% sure but it could be a nod to a logo the club used in the 50s & 60s (particularly for Euro games); possibly in an effort to embrace a Scottish identity as well as their Irish roots? https://t.co/W0Z9EMUNXm

Beautiful strip. Great job all involved in it. :aok:
Ive not liked a new strip for years now and this one is no different.
It's a nah from me.
We're called Hibernian and have a green strip and badge with a Harp. That's enough Irish for me as a Scotsman, living in Scotland and supporting a Scottish football club.
The thistle is a nice touch, especially as we fly the Scottish flag in Europe this season.
Nice touch by the club to reveal the new strip on what would have been Prince Phillip’s 100th birthday.
Bizarre we’ve not actually seen a picture of the full kit as of yet?
My laddie loves it, he says it's Lit which is apparently really good, he also loves how the map of Edinburgh is on it, another to add to his collection
He said it was never official, and ive never seen a pic with it on the strip, but im happy to be corrected if there was one.
Plus, if people are having to try this hard to demonstrate a supposed link, then i would suggest that link is flimsy.
Anyway, im clearly in the minority, so happy to accept that, and obviously hope its a big seller for Hibs 👍
I like it a lot. As for the thistle I think we on here are putting more thought into it than those who designed the shirt - probably just an obligation maybe to stick something on the back rather than a statement of sorts.
Expect this will be a very popular strip and should sell well.
Twitter is full of absolutely livid Jambos raging at "this is our city". Well played Hibs.
Seen a Canadian football fan on Twitter admiring our new Kit and at the same time having a go at Canadian club York9 who went with this Macron number

Don't like the thistle. Not Hibernian.
If anything it should be a shamrock or harp. But that aside, it's a jolly decent kit.
