I really hope so.
Is this Americas version of 2014’s “Shy No’s”?

Difficult to say. Last two elections with Trump on the ballot have under estimated his support. Polling companies now claim they have weighted their polls to fix this.
2022 under estimated Dems but hard to compare because Trump not directly on the ballot.
Polling companies can’t really weight for an increased female vote because of Roe because it may not exist. We will just have to wait and see. I think it does but it may not.

Well when America sneezes the world catches a cold. If an authoritarian, which Trump self proclaims as, was in control of the USA the obvious alignments made would be with other authoritarians. He's already said Putin should be allowed to do as he pleases which would lead to war in Europe and would drag us in. I don't want my 18 year old son involved in a war designed to allow billionaires to get richer. I also have quite a few pals in the US who are dreading him being elected.
Does it affect you much? Does it bother you that other people will be affected? Does it make a difference to you that American women will would be denied health care and would see a return to back-street abortions. Or is it just that you would be OK so, why bother?
But, aye, it does bother me. Thanks for your concern.

I’ve said before on this thread that I don’t know anything about US politics, and I don’t know anything about what you are saying about wars and abortions etc .. I don’t watch the news or keep up to date about what Donald Trump is up too. I’m just not bothered about it. I just wanted to know who was going to win because people on here know a lot more than me, hence why I asked.
To be fair, if your toilet's blocked and you need to force a Donald sized Richard the Third round the U bend in one seamless thrust having the MP for Clacton on hand is a better option that one of those plastic brush efforts.
And you can depend on him because he ain't going to be in Clacton.

The Clacton Daily Bugle is doing an Edinburgh Evening News type spot the ball competition.
Every week the Clacton electorate get a map of their constituency to put an X on and who ever is lucky enough to pinpoint where their MP is wins a billion.
Safe as houses as he spends more time in the States up a big orange sphincter than he will ever do in Clacton post election.

If you’re not bothered who wins the presidential election, and you don’t know anything about US politics, and you don’t know abortion law changes there, or the wars going on the DT has been giving his opinions on… why did you bother to come on the thread and ask?

In an open letter, a copy of which was obtained by The New York Times, 82 Nobel prize winners from the US in the fields of physics, chemistry, economics and medicine, said “this is the most consequential presidential election in a long time, perhaps ever, for the future of science and the United States”.

As humans we've been here before and I'm not surprised that intellectuals are concerned about what Trump, Putin and their counterparts world wide are trying to sell their electorate. History has shown is again and again where this all goes. No matter the ideology the result is the same, imperialism, holocaust, culture revolution and dictatorship.
There's always a scapegoat, for the Nazis it was the Jews, for the Communists the bourgeois and nobility, Mao targeted intellectualism and the Church other religions. When Trump talks about draining the swamp, he's talking about teachers, political opponents and intellectualism. They have a right to be worried.
I'm watching an American comedy series called Sprung and it's set during the pandemic, one character is coughing and the others make a concoction of bleach and other cleaning stuff and are about to drink it when the guy with the cough realised he was allergic to something he was wearing.
Honest, it was funny at the time. 😉
You’ve got to be careful of so called expert opinions a few days before an election.
Remember the hundred or so security experts and former FBI people signing a letter say the Hunter Biden laptop was fake and a Russian plant a week before the 2020 election and it turned out it was 100% genuine.
The laptop contents were used by the prosecution to convict Hunter Biden of tax evasion.
Hunter Biden may not have been on the ballot but his dad was and there were various emails implicating him in Hunters deals with foreign entities including a breakup of their profits which listed 10% to the “ big guy “
Two of Hunters partners have sworn under oath that Joe Biden was the big guy.
Not good information to be circulating a couple of weeks before an election so they got some “ experts” in to sign a letter saying it was all a Russian fake.
I’ve a horrible feeling that, with things so tight in the run up to the election, tango man is going to sneak it. It’s a lose lose situation for democracy in America and the world in general. Republicans win and Trump will display how loud and loose a canon he is. World peace kaput. Democrats win and potentially civil war in America. Depressing times.
Leonardo di Caprio endorses Harris
10% to the big guy but Trumps useless son in law gets billions from friendly countries to start his own fund even though he has no experience in that field.
Trump claims foreign interference because Labour have sent a few people
To help campaign for Kamala, yet Truss, Farage and Johson support Trump.
Also have Musk effectively buying votes in swing states by offering a million dollar a day lottery.
Trump is a wee greeting faced *ank stain.

I would not be surprised if there’s been a back room deal done between the Bidens and Trump to pardon each other after the election depending on the results.
Call me suspicious but I don’t trust any politician, especially Yanks. :greengrin
I watched the Joe Rogan podcast last night interviewing Trump for 3hrs. It was actually quite interesting but what struck me was the amount of views. It had been up for 20hrs and had over 23m views and it's now at 30m. He didn't hold back on what he thought of Harris whatsoever. Pretty funny at times.

I had a guy in the taxi the other day from upstate NY, he's a big Trump fan and went on to say he works 12 hour days, teetotal and is good for US businesses, I didn't get into a deep conversation with the guy as he was already a Trump voter and I couldn't be bothered going through all the bad the things about the guy, Trump voters are deep rooted and it'll take a lot to change their minds, we need to hope the young voters come out in force against this guy or he'll be back in.

Panorama tonight is an hour long programme about why Trump should get a second chance. I’m depressed that things at present point towards a Trump victory. :grr:
WTF? What's happened to the BBC?
Just looked at the blurb for the programme ...
Is that the BBC saying the "attempted assassination" was real and not staged? Perhaps they should do a Panorama about the "shooting".Quote:
For the past two years, Panorama has been following some of Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters. One was just feet away from the former president when a gunman tried to assassinate him during a rally in Pennsylvania.
Well, bookie’s favourite for a start, a lot of media exposure, both positive and damaging, but keeping his name in the forefront of the minds of ‘undecidedes’. Barring some insipid, publicised vocal support from eminent pop stars, Harris doesn’t seem to get his level of media attention and, from a distance admittedly, unfortunately I think ‘things’ point to a victory for him. I’m watching the programme now and can’t help feeling he’s got all these thick Yanks eating out of his hands. Just a strong feeling I’ve got to say, but I think my feeling is backed up by what we are hearing and seeing.
As I’ve said before, Ozy, you incessantly tell us that Trump won’t\can’t win, but I don’t think you’ve ever backed it up with sound reasoning. I hope I’m wrong and you’re right and, if Harris wins, I’ll be the first to celebrate with you, but I honestly think we’re both in for a major disappointment.
I didn’t know about the ? and take the point. However, the programme, to me, was highly pitched in Trump’s favour and, on balance or maybe imbalance, supported the Trump campaign. I found the last glimpse of Trump highly disturbing and threatening. He said “If we don’t win this election, it might be the last ever election we ever have.” Take what you want from that.
:agree:
That family they followed are completely mad, as are most of his followers. It's become a cult that has these people in a spell, they are deranged if they think he gives a toss about any of them?
If you look up gullible in the dictionary, it just says yanks.
The polls point to a Harris win. I think on the day she will win by more than 4%. I actually think she can take Florida. So long as she gets to 270 though then I’ll be very happy.
Early voting is showing massive turnout among women, black and Latino voters. It’s also just up massively overall, pointing to a huge turnout. All that will help Harris.
I’m still confident she wins. Although I’ll get more nervous as next Tuesday approaches.

Using twitter right now to try and gauge what way voters might go seems like a waste of time. Musk pretty unashamedly using it as a propaganda machine and his MAGA bots with blue ticks being propelled right to the top of the newsfeeds. Pointing to republican voter regististration as a outright win when people are getting paid to register seems unwise as well.

This for me is the crux of the problem. Firstly you have the Joe Bloggs Republican supporters who will vote for their party, irrespective of the candidate. I don’t think any of them, even the one’s who know Trump is a liability, and a danger society, will abstain. Then you have the ‘gullibles’ like the idiots featured in the programme, who are fanatics and mesmerised by Trump’s histrionics and lies. Lastly, and possibly the most worrying, are the crazy insurgents, who would follow any clown, like Trump, who preaches and encourages their violent philosophies. Without exaggeration or knee-jerking the USA and the wider world is on a knife edge.

Make Rayngurs Great Again!
I see Biden has had a gaffe and called Trump supporters 'Garbage'. I don't think he meant it as that, he was very very muddled in the 27 second clip and couldn't get his words out. Hard to tell.
However.. It reminds me of Hilary Clinton referring to Trump supporters as 'Deplorables' which, to me, was a big turning point. Terrible timing.
Think it will be fine. Unfortunately for Joe, nobody is listening to him anymore. He’s not the candidate and has been totally sidelined by her campaign.
Still, if Trump wants to spend the last 6 days running against Biden then that would be good.[emoji106]

Does early voting in the US election mean good news for either party or no advantage to Reublican or Democrats?
With only 5 days to go which pollster are possibly the best to keep a eye on for a idea of who the yanks are gonna vote for as next president
Every single day a news headline seems to read that some celebrity is endorsing Harris. Today’s BBC top headline begins with “Harris campaigns with Cardi B in Wisconsin”.
Have I lost touch with reality or is there a reason why we should give a **** who Cardi B, Leonardo Dicaprio, Taylor Swift, or the hundred other celebrities who have piped up think people should vote vote.
Any statesmanship that once existed in American politics is dead and buried. It resembles a reality tv show more than the world’s most powerlful leadership contest these days.
I wish they could both lose.
I read that a large number of early votes is meant to be good for the Dems, who are perceived as being more likely to vote early.
It’s one of Trump’s bugbears - a perfectly legal and acceptable way to cast a vote but as it goes against him, Trump thinks it suggests corruption.
I would say almost nobody bases their vote on a single endorsement but a lot of endorsements can create a narrative and the appearance of momentum. Also the endorsements of so many Republicans is helping create the feeling among republicans that it’s ok this time to vote for a democrat to stop Trump.
People want to join a group they know has other people like them. And for some people, they might just feel like Cardi B is just like them.

I think a large turnout is thought to be good for dems as there is thought to be a ceiling for Trumps support. It’s thought he can only win when Dems are apathetic like in 2016 where Hilary didn’t really get people excited and many were stung by Sanders treatment.
That was the danger with going with Biden. Harris appears to have stopped that.

I think it’s a common thing there, for public figures to endorse candidates, it also happens in the process to select a presidential candidate as well.
The campaigns of each party also court public figures to donate, support and publicly endorse candidates. Kal Penn talks about it at length in his autobiography, where he was inspired by Barack Obama at such an event in Los Angeles, and ended up volunteering to do a lot of work for the campaign, who were both keen to leverage his relative high profile and also concerned about him being primarily known for Harold and Kumar, and the possible interpretation of supporting drug use.
It's absolutely cringeworthy but it's how the American system works. Politics in a great many countries is a basket case but despite all the rhetoric the vested interests tend not to want to change.
Look at who gave us Truss and Sunak, to name a few.
