Enjoyed the first 2 episodes of The Old Man on Disney +
Inside Man has been good so far, particularly Stanley Tucci.
I’m well into squid games now but I’ve been watching with the English dubbing on finding it difficult to enjoy because of the daft ness of the voices but I’m past the point of no return now I’ve got to see it through
Tremendous episode of Rings of Power this week. Tees us up nicely for the final two episodes - although I'm not sure we'll get to the point of the rings being forged this series.
I'm still unsure if Sauron is one of the characters we've met to date, or yet to be revealed. I'm leaning towards the mystery man with the Harfoots being Sauron.
I don’t doubt it mate, I’m awful with subtitles, for some reason I find it difficult to read them and concentrate on what’s going on in the scene, I just wanted to see it and was kind of hoping that subtitles had moved on from the old style king fu films of the past, there’s a German thing on Netflix I was planning next I think il go with the subs on that one off this experience
I agree it’s too early in the legendarium for the forging of the rings, although with that ending yesterday they’ve set it up for that possibility!! (Spoiler dodging). I think Sauron could be a character we haven’t met yet.
I have a few gripes with it, particularly why they felt the need to continue to simply bolt on real world accents to the races (orcs are all east end cockneys, Southlanders are northern English, Elves and high born Numenorean men all Home Counties, dwarves Scots, harfoots Irish gypsies (please!!) and there’s some very ropey CGI, a podcast I listen to was pointing out that the Jackson films have better CGI and that was almost twenty years ago! With all the money that’s gone into this… grumble grumble
On the plus side, the music is tremendous, most of the acting is excellent and the scenery costumes and sets a feast for the eyes. I’ve even been revisiting my dusty copy of the LOTR appendices on the Second Age to work out who some of the characters are!
Anyone else enjoying House of the Dragon?
Just binged all 3 seasons of Derry Girls, absolutely fantastic.
Undercover, Dutch with overdubs but impulsive viewing, about Ferry Bouman a drugs lord and where the cops put a couple of cops undercover. This is a spin off to a one off called Ferry, brilliant stuff
Rings of Power season finale was tremendous I thought. Answered a lot of questions, and teed up season 2 nicely. Not looking forward to the long wait for it though!
I was the only one of our group of four watching it that guessed the identity of ‘that character’ early on, so I feel quite smug as if I’ve worked out the killer in a murder mystery :greengrin
The last couple of episodes have been excellent, the visuals absolutely stunning. Some storylines are stronger than others but the Harfoots story particularly has grown as the season has progressed. A lot depends on how they get on with the Numenor storyline in season two.
I enjoyed Karen Pirie up to the point where they looked for the second crime scene. Unnecessary geographical error!!!
If you know where she looks at on the map it in no way resembles where they end up.
The 3rd season of Norwegian crime drama Wisting started again tonight on BBC 4 , like most Scandi Noir it's very dark, but very watchable
The Watcher, bloody weird 😵
I would love to watch TV right now. Turned the living room TV off when we went to bed last night. Watched some TV in bed. Turned the bedroom TV off. We were up and out early this morning and have been out all day and are just back. Wanted to watch some TV… all our remotes are nowhere to be seen. Can’t find any of the remotes in the living room (TV, fire stick, dvd) or the bedroom TV remote! All gone.
Just been checking our ring cameras to check we haven’t been broken into as it is so bizarre.
Agree - been tremendous since episode 6. Some great casting - Elrond, Galadriel, Halbrand, Durin all excellent.
Purists might not be happy that they've played about a bit with the timings of events set out in Tolkien's works, but I thought it all came together really well in the final episode.
Plenty clues as to the identity of the character, especially the big one in the final episode before Galadriel twigs - might rewatch knowing who he is. One that stands out as a huge hint to me was the conversation with Adar when they first meet.
Yes, they HAD to play a bit fast and loose with the timings in Tolkien’s works because these events take place over hundreds of years and the key human characters would only last an episode so we wouldn’t be able to get invested in them, I’ve no problem with that at all.
The enhanced role the TV show gives mithril as the elves ‘life force’ is a bit much though; there’s no real evidence for that in the books and there’s no real narrative sense for it either…it’s not explained properly, why do they need it by ‘next Spring’? It was supposed to be super valuable and gave economic power to the dwarves but something that the elves needed to keep their race going? Nope. But as a main gripe goes it’s nothing compared to those Jackson Hobbit movies :grr:
How they dealt with the Harfoots ‘stranger’ was brilliant. I was hoping that was how that was going to play out.
Did anyone watch the Ice Cream wars, horrific stuff which I remember well at the time, ****ing 18 mth old bairn amongst those that perished in that fire
All because some gangster wanted to sell their dodgy **** 🤬
I watched that. I was too young to know what was happening at the time but I’d heard about it through the years with the two guys appeals and stuff so I knew of the case. The program was well done, it’s awful that they still don’t know for sure who did it after all these years.
Agreed mate and sadly one or two who may have known a bit more have gone to their graves so we may never know. Astonishingly the scabby evidence provided that convicted Campbell and Steele was as flimsy as you could get, the Police played a massive part too with major **** ups throughout the trials
My reading of that is that it was needed to be handled by Sauron, so that he could corrupt the rings that were forged. By using that to then make the rings, when he creates the one ring, he will be able to rule over those three rings.
I'm not quite sure how the one ring rules the others in the books / lore, but that's how I've taken it.
The reason for it being by "next spring" or within 3 months, is I assume, to make Elrond, Galadriel and Celebrimbor more likely to push on with making the rings, despite potentially having some misgivings. If they had an extended period of time and there was no rush, then they may have kept Sauron around longer and eventually rumbled his identity.
I get that about mithrils role in the rings, but it’s the Elrond/Durin interchanges about mithril being the ‘elves life force’ that bother me, these are supposed to be the wisest of the good guys out there, is Elrond as easily manipulated as Celebrimbor? It doesn’t sit with the rest of his character development, Elrond is quite suspicious of Celebrimbors obsessive focus on ring creation previously.
Celebrimbor was just banging on about next Spring because Sauron was persuading him that that was what was required? I suppose that’s possible, but I still don’t like it, it just makes Celebrimbor an unlikely naive and easily corrupted character. Maybe a theme for later seasons when the ring making gets properly underway.
I watched the Jeffrey Dahmer programme on Netflix. I really enjoyed it, a sickening story though. I just wish they woudln't mess with timelines too much. If I hadn't watched the documentary beforehand I think I would have got a bit lost.
Walking dead is back, love a bit of the zombies
Watching a documentary on BBC Two about Rob Burrow and his fight with MND , absolutely heartbreaking stuff , but it's amazing to see his attitude and his positivity and that he can still manage a laugh at things
The Handmaids Tale back Sunday.
Midnight club was awrite , I enjoyed it anyway and that's aw that matters
2 episodes in on the Watcher and i'm enjoying that tae
Enjoyed the Rings of Power after a slow start.
House of the Dragon for me has kinda gone the other way. Enjoyed the opening episodes but the plot is just a bit too silly for me overall. Virtually every character decision which has driven the story, seems illogical and lacking clear motivation.
Alicent for example, there’s no clarity on what drives her. I don’t think it’s subtext, it’s just that things happen cos it suits the plot. The ending of this weeks episode being another WTF moment.
started watching a seven-part series on the BBC,Russia 1985-1999: TraumaZone. A lot of previously unseen BBC footage on the collapse of the state before and after Perestroika, very interesting
Halfway through The Offer on Paramount TV and it’s been excellent so far. Went back and rewatched The Godfather and Part II to refresh the memory, still can’t get over how good The Godfather is.
Gangs of London back, crazy crazy stuff, quite brutal and just dont eat your tea when its on as gruesome stuff 🫣
I lost my Mum to MND in May. I recorded it, but haven't watched it yet. It'll probably be something I watch on my own obviously.
I'll be gutted when Rob, and Doddie go. The work they've done to bring awareness and fight the disease is phenomenal.

I'm about 2/3rds through our friends in the north and loving it. Cheers to whoever recommended it
Sorry to hear. It never gets easier but I'm dealing with it. Helping my Dad has been hardest really.
I've raised over £2000 for MND charities so far since May and I'm planning to do something every year or so if I can.
My mum never quit or lost her sense of humour. It's absolutely and brutal disease that is so prevalent.

Just finished House across the street, Shirley Henderson played her part well but, I've got an irrational dislike for the woman.
I’m coming to it late but the first season of Money Heist is a clever piece of work.
Yep it's top notch and I remember watching it in the late 90s. It's aged well and I enjoyed it just as much this time round too.
**spoiler alert**
That scene near the end of the last episode when Tosker goes back into the house for his bairns jacket had me a bit watery eyed.
GGTTH
Think squid game was the most popular program in the uk and the US on Netflix last year. Thinker younger groups don't mind as much. Money heist has been near the top quite a lot too. Parasite might have opened a lot of doors to cinemas taking a risk hopefully
5 days at Memorial on Apple is a interesting watch. About a suspicious number of deaths at a hospital in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
Also just finished Troppo on freevee (Amazon) it’s meant to have adverts but not a single one during the whole season. A classic murder mystery set in Australia that I thought was really well done.
Watching the Tudors just now.
On season 4 and think it is bloody brilliant.
Watched the Good Nurse at the weekend, Eddie Redmayne is one of my favourite actors. The story is chilling, I’d seen a documentary on it before so I knew of the case and I find dramatisations of true crime can sometimes be hit or miss but this one is good. Jessica Chastain is really good too in it.
Black Butterflies on Netflix.
Edit. Bloody brilliant. What's French for film noir?
Andor has got better every week. Probably better than Mandalorian IMO and definitely does justice to the Rogue 1 story.
Started with low expectations but wow, last few episodes have been incredible
Manifest season 4 :top marks
If you can get FX channel, The Old Man is excellent.
It's like a cross between Homeland and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and I'm pretty sure it'll be up for awards next year.
It's intelligent, well acted and gripping, but it needs attention so best not to drink too much while watching it. :greengrin
The original House of Cards starting on BBC4.
Just watched the first episode of The Devil's Hour on Amazon Prime, it's got a lot of potential, stars Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine.
The Walking Dead Finale tonight, watched every episode since 2010 :greengrin #TheWalkingDead - Twitter Search / Twitter
i can only think of a handful of several episodes i thought were boring :(
i must admit to not enjoying this last season as much as the previous ones, i think it went quite stale with the arrival of 'the Whisperers' series(S9), actually started enjoying the spin-off 'fear the walking dead' more, the same creator, there's more spin-offs from TWD coming in 23, the other spin-off that started approx 3 years ago The Walking Dead: World, i only watched the first two episodes, completely different cast, tried giving it another chance EP6 i think it was but nah
i think that's before Negan yep ? if so yep stick with it, i can't remember if it's the last episode of S6 or the first in S7 but that episode alone where Negan slaughters(i won't give away the characters names) actually lost TWD a lot of viewers, it really WAS quite violent and shocking for the brutality of it, still brilliant though, probably put family viewers off i guess, but of course it led to lots of sales on the internet for Lucille, see below, for sale on Ebay for nearly £90 :greengrin Negan's weapon of choice below

That episode is pretty much head and shoulders above every other episode, pity there were not a few more. Glenn's initial episode was very good too. And the 1st episode, completely original, eventually dragged out too long although Samantha Morton gave it extra life for a while.
i just couldn't take to that deep southern accent :greengrin and andrew lincoln did get ripped from his castmates for his 'Coral' when saying Carl, just looked on wiki and that episode involving Negan was indeed the S7 Premier. both Andrew Lincoln and the woman that played Michone are shown after the last episode finished, ones for the spin-offs
i was watching a film called 'the boy' a couple years back and even though i recognised the actress from somewhere, que my surprise when i googled and realised it was Lauren Cohan, she obviously made that film on her brief sabbatical from TWD
