I'm sure this will grow arms and legs over the course of the next month.

England to press on with bringing in vaccine passports next month
We really, really need to follow, or explain in clear terms why not and what else is being done to avoid future lockdowns. Appealing to the public to be cautious, get vaccinated etc isn't working and Delta has completely destroyed previous plans given how transmissible it is.
If Boris can see this, how the **** is NS not?

Glasgow and Lanarkshire are the two worse hit coronavirus hotspots in Europe, according to the World Health Organisation.
The rate of Covid-19 cases per person in the two Scottish regions are significantly higher than elsewhere in the country, the United Kingdom and the continent.

The EIS has asked they are prioritised for boosters, I hope that includes the min wage PSA's who btw are about to ballot for industrial action re: their shocking pay increase. We'll no doubt hear the FM say (again) tomorrow in her Parliamentary statement schools have enhanced measures in place (even though they don't)...
Looking like it's happening.Quote:
PUB bosses have warned of “severe and irreversible damage” to the industry if Nicola Sturgeon clobbers the sector with new curbs. The First Minister is to make a statement today where she’s expected to reiterate that reimposing restrictions in the coming weeks is possible if the surge in cases continues.
Last night, one insider said ministers could peg back opening hours - and even shut nightclubs again.
But senior sources insisted there was still no immediate plan for new restrictions , with ministers and officials hopeful that the dramatic surge in cases - partly fuelled by high test numbers - will settle down in the coming days.
Ms Sturgeon’s parly address comes after Scotland recorded seven more deaths of people with recently confirmed Covid and 6,029 new cases.
And 585 people who recently caught the virus were in hospital, up by 34 in a day, with 54 patients in intensive care, up two. This compares to pandemic peaks of 2053 in hospital and 221 in intensive care.
Ahead of Ms Sturgeon’s statement, Scottish Government national clinical director Jason Leitch said public health officials’ advice to ministers would be that “you have to stop transmission”.
He added: “Transmission happens indoors, unventilated, in crowds. So if you wanted to stop transmission, you need to think about areas that fit that criteria that you can just turn back a little bit.”
Asked if that meant nightclubs and pubs, he said that “might be where you start”, but said ministers would also have to consider the economic implications.
Last night Scottish Beer and Pub Association spokesman Paul Togneri said: “Any further restrictions placed on the hospitality industry would do severe and irreversible damage to an already fragile sector at the worst possible time.
“Professor Leitch is right to highlight the economic complexities that factor into the decision-making process.”
Glasgow businessman Donald MacLeod, who owns the Garage and Cathouse clubs, said he feared ministers were “switching the tap on and off on a whim” which would leave the night-time industry “in paralysis”.
He said: “It seems to me they’re putting the frighteners on here and I just wish they’d stop it.
“I wish they’d let us get on with our lives because we now have 80 odd per cent double vaccinated. People might be contracting the virus but there’s no pressure that I can see.
“It’s about time we started accepting that the vaccine is doing its job.
“Are we going to be doing this alone, being the only part of the UK closing down again?
“Eighteen months of this has been awful and we must move out of it. The mental stress of this is incredible - it’s taken its toll on a lot of people.”
FURLOUGH ENDING
Sources have said that the end of the UK Government’s furlough scheme on September 30 is a factor weighing on SNP ministers’ minds, and could make closures now more likely.
Last night, SNP Finance Secretary Kate Forbes - isolating due to a family member testing positive - told a Holyrood committee via video link that there was money available for business support or furlough if Scotland were to impose fresh restrictions, with furlough ending in four weeks.
Senior hospitality industry sources said any move to impose fresh restrictions on the sector was likely to be met by legal challenges on “proportionality” grounds, with hospital cases only just above levels when hours were extended to midnight in July.
Colin Wilkinson, managing director of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, said: “If pubs and clubs have to close again – in a so-called circuit-breaker – it will be absolutely devasting for our industry.
“We’ve talked about a perfect storm – another lockdown would be a tsunami from which many simply won’t recover.
“We’re trying to recover from the pandemic, businesses are striving to get up and running again at a time when there are now supply chain issues and staff shortages. Everything that can be thrown at businesses in the licensed hospitality sector has been – businesses just can’t take any more.”

A ban on travellers using private Covid tests when returning from abroad could be scrapped by the Welsh government.
Rules say travellers from Wales should use NHS tests, costing £68 each, when going abroad or face a £1,000 fine.
First Minister Mark Drakeford had said in July he had "no plans" to change Wales' preferred approach of using NHS tests as the Welsh government was advising against foreign travel.
But a Welsh government spokesman has said the policy is now being reviewed.

They can **** off with that ****. Hospital numbers are a quarter of what they were at their peak. There’s only 54 people in intensive care, how is that causing the nhs to become overrun? Any restrictions now are only kicking the can further down the road into the flu season when the pressures on the nhs will be far greater.
They're not talking about restrictions yet, but the NHS in England, Wales and NI are facing the same problems

Weekly NRS update;
In the 7 days up to 29th August 48 deaths have been registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate - increase of 7 from the previous 7 days.
9 of the deaths were patients under 65, 11 aged 65-74 and 28 were 75+.
Deaths from all causes in the 7 days up to 29th August were 10% above the 2015-2019 average for the time of year.
Deaths at home and in non-institutional settings were 39% above average, hospitals 2% above average and care homes 7% below average compared with the 2015-2019 average.
23 more deaths from circulatory causes and 16 more deaths from dementia/Alzheimer's compared to the 5 year average. 15 fewer deaths from cancer and 8 fewer from respiratory causes compared to the 5 year average.
Seemingly some sort of briefing today, what time is it
I'm guessing it'll go the same way as up here and any debate about extension of furlough or reintroduction of restrictions will have to wait until there's pressure on the UK government.
Yet. We'll see if that changes in the next few weeks if the expected spike in cases materialises. BTW, nightclubs in NI are still closed and folk thought we had it bad here
As much as this may only apply to the English part of your argument - do we really expect Boris Johnson to warn people that restrictions returning remains a potential possibility?
Or is her more likely to continue enjoying his slight increase in popularity because people are back in night clubs, and then slap-in restrictions at the last minute.
Nsw premier says it looks like it's impossible to stop delta spreading even with full lockdown. There were 1116 cases in new South Wales yesterday even after months of stay at home lockdown. Perhaps scot gov knows your just pissing in the wind, once it's as widespread as it is now

Case growth thankfully dropping quite fast, if it continues cases should fall next week. A record 57,000 tests yesterday but test positivity not changed from last week, so more testing picking up more cases. Starting to look similar to the euros spike
i think they maybe just used those four club "Stalwarts" for the sake of a publicity photo shoot, i'm sure at least several more have been vaccinated
more interestingly i'd like to know why we still get a 'page not found' when clicking on that NHS link to the story
Statement starting now.
Vaccine certification to be used in Scotland for entry to:
▪️nightclubs
▪️indoor live events with 500+ people unseated
▪️outdoor live events with 4000+ people unseated
▪️any event with 10,000+ people
Subject to debate and vote at Holyrood next week
Increase of cases extremely concerning.
Hopeful we can turn the corner without imposing any restrictions.
Next few days are crucial.
13% of cases ended up in hospital pre-vaccine, now it is 2-3%.
Cannot rule out restrictions but do not want to apply them.
Vaccine certification to commence in a limited number of settings subject to parliament approval.
Nightclubs and adult entertainment venues
Indoor live events with 500+ people unseated
Outdoor live events with 4000+ people unseated
Any event with 10,000+ people
Not deemed appropriate at this stage to introduce certification in other hospitality venues.
QR code to become available.
A vaccine passport is something that I would usually be deeply opposed to.
In this instance, as a temporary measure, then I support it, albeit somewhat grudgingly.
It's not a normal situation and it calls for more radical measures to tackle it. I'd rather have to carry a letter about or scan/show a QR code when going out than go back to being told to stay in the house.
It's quite a u turn on vaccine passports as only a few weeks ago John Swinney said "Rejecting people who refuse a coronavirus vaccination from certain large events is the wrong approach"
I think he was wrong then but right now.
Quite happy with that on vaccine certificates, makes things safer in the short term and it’ll also push a few more people to get vaccinated. Then when things are better, they can get rid of them.
Can you get into the above events with testing
I get it I really do and it's a tough call but I just don't like the thought of any government shutting you out of part of society until you obey and do with your body what they want you to do
Down the line it will be if youve not had the flu Jag then your not coming in
It has to be temporary for me.
If it starts to lead to increasing levels of intrusiveness with flu jabs and the like being included then I could quickly reverse my tentative support.
I suppose there is an argument the pandemic has seen nothing but incremental intrusions into our lives by the govt and this is just another step but I'm just about willing to trust them, for now.

“Vaccine passports would deepen discrimination against those who have not yet been vaccinated. It would deepen inequality at a time when the country needs collective effort”

To be fair, today’s announcement is only for entertainment venues etc, so not really a massive restriction of people’s liberties. It’s not exactly a denial of someone’s human rights to deny them entry to Easter road or Why Not.

I welcome today's announcement although I'd personally like to see it extended to hotels, restaurants and pubs but the proposals will do for now.
I just feel there's a far higher risk of an unvaccinated person doing damage in an indoor venue like a restaurant compared with an outdoor venue like Easter Road.
So, is it really going to be a case that if you're not double jabbed you can't get in to these events? If so, that is ****ing mental, IMO.
Tell you what maybe these conspiracy theorists were onto something 😂
35,693 cases and 207 deaths registered in the UK today.
My worry is the incremental additions to the restrictions that may happen over winter. Every one justified at the time, but a cumulative effect that ends up being permanent and then... boom, we have the ID Card.
I hope that, when the legislation is passed, there is provision for it being reviewed frequently for unintended consequences and that it is time-limited.
Talking about vaccines has anyone else had any lingering fatigue after their 2nd dose?
I'm training for a marathon at the moment and pre vaccine I was going well as I increased my mileage. The days after the 2nd dose I struggle big time but that wasn't unexpected. It's a pain in the arse now though as I am tiring noticeably quicker and my recovery takes far longer.
It could well be there is something else at play but it seems a bit of a coincidence it has become a noticeable issue after the 2nd vaccine dose.
If it encourages enough people to get the jab then it's a good temporary measure/lure. The curve seems to be mirroring some predictions from a while back. If we jab enough people in the next couple of months, including teenagers there may not be a winter spike at all, was the shout.

Is this vaccine passport, going to be the same one to use travelling to a foreign country?
Is it really such a big deal to get double jabbed? The same sort of restrictions are due to be imposed in England by the end of this month and IMHO it seems a sensible enough move. Personally I'd extend it to more events because I don't get how sitting centimetres away from somebody in a football stadium is safer than standing at, say, an outdoor concert/festival.
Of course if public outrage proves huge we'll probably see the plans dropped.
