Johnson is now safe.
It was down to his fellow MPs to show some balls and vote him out.
But for the vast majority they put personal interest above doing the right thing for the country. They are almost as bad.
He will be here until general election now.
Bears repeating in France, where they have capped fuel prices, the average gas price increase? 4%. U.K. average? 127%. Electricity? They capped EDFs profits 6 months ago. That’s why the French don’t have widespread food bank use.
https://amp.theguardian.com/business/2022/jan/14/france-edf-cap-household-energy-bills
Have family in France, ordinary working people, they're dealing with nothing like the issues on fuel and cost of living that similar people in UK are.
I put this to my Tory loyalist friend who without hesitation retorted that it is because they will be throwing EU and French tax payers money at it to paper over the cracks.
We on the other hand are throwing UK tax payers money, plus money from god knows where at this, plus dodgy PPE contracts and all we have to show for it is world beating inflation, rising poverty and wages failing to keep pace.
At least we know it's our own government that has taken back control of all this.
Huzzah, Bozo's at the wheel.

That sounds very plausible. So the French state operator, essentially an arm of the French state, is using money from millions of impoverished 'Brits' and using it to reduce French people's bills? Thats the power you can wield when you have state assets. But of course, there is 'No Alternative' to unfettered free market capitalism :aok:
Sunak announces the windfall tax which everyone has been calling for since the Spring. To be fair it’s a generous package of measures at first glance, the problem is the damage has already been done during the months of inaction first half of the year. The supply problems predate Ukraine, he’s hoping that folk forget that and blame Putin for food banks instead of Tory policy.
I wonder how much of this windfall tax the Tories can steal and distribute out to their mates.
Scrounging Jocks to the rescue again. Strange the Beeb was adamant North Sea Oil would have ran out by now.
Immoral, corrupt and shameless, yet so many people....including some who post on here... happily vote for them as they feel it's 'in their interests'.

Hideous behaviour from Suella Braverman
******g Tories, yet another one.
Tory who sent "buttery and creamy" teenage girls tweet resigns (yahoo.com)
THE Conservative local deputy-chair who posted a tweet saying 16-year-old girls smell "buttery and creamy" has resigned from the party.
This weekend, a post on the Twitter account now confirmed to be of Jonty Campbell, who has stood for election in Preston on a number of occasions, was spotted online.
Edinburgh airport shambles yesterday. Border force couldn't run a bath.
3 planes coming in at the same time, and they can't cope. Electronic passport machines out of order, or not reading, causing vast queues, and time waiting exceeding an hour, only to find we're still waiting on our bags 2 hours after landing, due to limited numbers of baggage handlers and buggies to get the bags from the planes to the reclaim area.
I recall the CEO at Edinburgh airport screaming that he wanted his passengers back during the reopening after covid. Maybe if he'd got his act together during the downtime, and put more effort into getting his systems right, rather than plastering the arrivals hall with posters about how Great Britain is, visitors to the country wouldn't think they'd just landed in a backwater.
Rant over.
Sadly it’s not just Edinburgh, ever UK airport seems to be the same. I flew back from the Caymans a few months ago in to Heathrow. Had to queue for 2 hours to check-in for my Edinburgh flight and when I did get back home I found out my luggage was never loaded on to the plane. Got home on the Saturday and my luggage was finally delivered back to my flat on the Tuesday.
Guess we are seeing the results of cancelling thousands of zero-hour contracts and not being able to re-recruit the staff back.

Nadine Dorries, for your enlightenment.
Second home owners will get the energy rebate for each home they have.
Every chance they can get with these ****ers.
Been to 8 airports in Europe and US in the last few months and Edinburgh is one of the better ones just now, certainly for passing security.
Also every nation I've been are toiling with staff shortages, not sure if covid knock on or what. Signs in all the restaurants and hotels apologising for staff shortages. The US airports the worst Vietnam and Thailand last year had far more modern airports

So when he said it wouldn't happen again, he meant that he'd change the rules so that it would no longer be a problem for him when he does it again. Anyone who thinks Johnson is good for the country needs to take a long look at what he's doing.

I found a Tory with a moral compass.
Erm isn't that exactly what happened in Scotland?

I think it has to do with the Henry VIII legislation that was introduced during COVID where large numbers of powers were transferred from Parliament to the Government. But I could be wrong.
Here's an interesting snippet on the changes to the Ministerial Code. Look at what has been removed:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/202...d-since-1970s/
No going to pay for subscription for the horrible paper. But noticed the headline was similar to what I was saying earlier, about old school tories not happy with bailouts when it's to the public.
"This is the most economically Left-wing government we've had since the 1970s"
I'm going to give them credit for the help with winter fuel bills. Yes, it's a cynical U-Turn designed to take the heat off of Bozo, but it's welcome nonetheless. What matters is that millions of families will receive much needed help. If Boris wasn't such an incompetent liar, it wouldn't have happened, so well done Bozo. :greengrin
Certainly a valid point for those on Universal Credit, agreed, and it was outrageous to remove the £20 uplift from those people. However, many of the households getting the winter fuel help aren't on UC; many are the working poor and it will be a big help. It's much better than the £200 winter loan that was the previous policy.

Found this interesting. Shows the growing amount on low paid jobs and universal credit, although covid might change the graph
Another gem from Marina Hyde...
if you’ve been sitting in your metaphorical cop car staking out Downing Street for six months, you now have jack **** to show for it bar severe doughnut-induced arterial hardening. And I should probably tell you that while you were waiting, like a coiled Krispy Kreme, the government junked its obesity strategy, so … thoughts and prayers. Oh, and while you were reading this, the prime minister changed the ministerial code so ministers accused of breaking it – eg him – don’t have to resign. ****finger strikes again! Seriously, everything he touches ...
No drive, no spine, very little vision: even science can’t explain the creatures clinging on to Johnson | Marina Hyde | The Guardian

The Times reports that Downing Street had access to drafts of Sue Gray's report in advance and intervened to get details of the Abba party in Boris Johnson's flat removed.

We have a Government system where there are no consequences whatsoever for the Prime Minister, or any of his Cabinet, for blatantly lying to Parliament.... but an MP can be censured for simply saying that the Prime Minister lied to Parliament, even if it's true.
What a messed up version of democracy we have.
I think that's debatable, as the Tory squeeze on NHS funding is being felt across the country. Of course, I have no idea if this sad incident was consequent on NHS constraints.
I do however think that if this had happened in Glasgow, many in our Scottish press including the lamentable BBC Scotland, would be pushing this story as another example of SNP bad. That's just an opinion, of course.

A culture of cover up: “I believed the doctors when they said my baby’s was an isolated case. Now I feel like a fool.”
Some speculation on twitter among journos that the 54 letters is very close or already breached and Brady of the '22 will be calling a confidence vote when parliament returns.
Also Johnson's approval has gone -ve among Tory members as surveyed by ConservativeHome. MPs not ****ing it from their members makes no confidence in Johnson more and more likely.
One of only 2 other Tories with a -ve approval? Good old Doogie the Lino. :greengrin

He is getting mightily close to being on a shoogly peg here?? 28th conservative now publicly declared he has to go.
Leadsom now, shes not in the Cabinet but she's still a big hitter politically. I think the Big Top is about to collapse on top of the circus performers.
They would be mad to put in a new leader just now. Inflation is going to rise for the next 9 months, who ever comes in is going to be presiding over a horrible time.
For that reason and johnson deserving everything he gets, I hope they do
I'd imagine they were pinning their hopes on 'golden boy' Sunak previously but now he's on the naughty step with the public. Perhaps hard to imagine a natural vote winner amongst the rest. Most of them are damaged goods.

A thread on the options for the tories. Would boris winning a confidence vote be the worst option for them
I can see a tough couple of years for the Tories whatever they do.
If only it was as easy at should be to "unify the left" and kick them out on their *****.
I saw a suggestion yesterday that Johnson's allies may force a confidence vote now in expectation of him surviving and then having 12 months without the threat of another confidence vote
Uk inflation higher than EU at 9%.

i see further down those tweets someone saying Johnson has been calling his critics promising them promotions and asking in return that they 'stay with me' lol creepy crooked corrupt liar
i have noticed the last few months princess nut nut managing to stay out of the headlines
I want BJ gone. But Christ, what are we going to end up with, Truss as PM? We'll be at war (literally) with the EU in a month.
It will be funny to see Boris squrim if they reach the 54 letters but with Sunak now looking down and out, the truth is Boris will survive comfortably any vote of confidence. Other politicians in his position would then reflect on their legacy, damage to the party etc and resign. But we know Boris will cling on to dear life, and use any dodgy trick he can muster.
It's going to be a crap couple of years till the next election whatever happens.
Can't see any election happening, just because one paper said it. They can sit back for 3 years. In that time inflation and fuel prices should be down and corona will be largely behind everyone. Biggest chance of him being booted might be end of the year when inflation will peak and second gas rise will have hit. Bring in someone new as things are recovering
