No they probably don’t but share ownership is much more widespread in the US than the UK.
There is also much more awareness of how markets pact their wealth (401k’s etc.) that here. Oddly most people in the UK still have no idea what their workplace pensions actually are or what they are invested in.
So while your point is accurate a rising stock market does have a significantly bigger influence in the US in politics than it ever has in say the UK elections.
Off topic, butyou just reminded me of a Facebook post I had from a Sevco supporter telling me not to use McDonalds as "they admit in their accounts to funding the IRA".
The truth was that they funded their employees' Individual Revenue Accounts, or, as we would call them, pensions.
Speaking now, taking credit for the vaccine.
As Obama said a lot of trumps win in 2016 was a delayed reaction to his win in 2008 and 2012. There are a lot of not very nice folk in the USA and I’m afraid trump has just fuelled their prejudices. How the hell you ever get the USA back to something like an even keel seems an impossible task when Alex Jones still gets tens of millions following his total lunacy. Sad times that it’s like that as I so enjoy going there on hols especially New York.
Didn’t meet one New Yorker who supported trump. Such a vibrant city and felt totally safe. A true reflection of the good of America.
It's a strange country to visit. I had my own mind set of how Americans would be.
First visited in 1992 and in 2 weeks didn't hear anyone swear and everyone I spoke to was nice and polite. Changed my mindset.
Hard to believe 70 million of them voted for Mad Mad Jack McMad
Looks like ca. 3,7 million New Yorkers voted Biden while 2.8 million voted Trump - who increased his share of the vote from 2016 - you need to try harder :greengrin

New York City isn't the complete Liberal panacea we all imagine it to be.
Trump has his pals and some major donors amongst the Manhattan elite and then you have the classic blue collar, mostly white borough of Staten Island which is widely regarded as 'Trump Country' by their fellow New Yorkers.
The wider state of New York is much more Trumpest than you would imagine.
Obviously the more rural counties to the north, up to the border with Canada are majority Trump in support but more importantly its the huge urban expanse beyond Brooklyn and Queens that goes deep into the heart of Long Island that is majority Trump too.
This is communities such as Levittown, an area which was the forerunner to the classic American suburban neighbourhoods that appeared all over America post WW2.
These 'white flight' towns are the real battle ground and in New York state Trump is surprisingly popular.
I’m aware of the new nuances of New York. I merely stated that I didn’t meet one person who supported trump when I was there and I have friends who have been there who say the same. Maybe all the trump supporters are like the tories here who stay quiet and never tell the pollsters their true voting intentions. One of my favourite places in the world to visit and nothing like I was led to believe by some media outlets in the USA.

President Trump doesn't matter.

The problem is how entrenched they all are. I had a look at a site called christianchat.com and they are shutting down anyone who voted Biden as being anti-Christian and anti-American. These are the people who follow the televangelists who ate telling them that God said Trump would win. They view anything supporting Biden as satanic. And they are a decent sized voting bloc with closed minds.

Caught on tape trying to blackmail the Georgia governor to fix the election. Surely that’s a chargeable offence in about 3 weeks time?

I understand that the senate is voting for a new senator in Georgia.
Is trump trying to influence an election?
It's clear that Trump wanted the Governor to falsify the election results, but he probably didn't quite say enough to be charged with an offence which would stand up in court.
That he's corrupt is obvious and he shouldn't have been trying to put pressure on like that, but in all likelihood he had Guiliani by his side as he made the call and stayed just on the unprovable side of illegal.
The tape should take some steam out of the Republicans' futile efforts tomorrow to reject Biden's confirmation, but that's about it, imo.
It mental that we are living in a time that a tape like that isn't wholly surprising
Absolutely bonkers

Yep, bizarre that Trump did the call personally but typically arrogant bullying behaviour that he did. Good on the guy for standing up to him.
Even Richard Nixon at least tried to distance the presidency itself from doubtful behaviour or worse but I guess Nixon was just an old fashioned crook who lacked some of Trumps more abhorrent characteristics.

Yup. Bonkers and terrifying. Trump has his supporters so scared of some bizarre socialist conspiracy he's walking them into a dictatorship (or trying his hardest to at least).
He needs to be prosecuted for any crimes committed after he's out of the White House. If he gets away with his rampant criminal behaviour then the next Trump that comes along is going to be smarter and more competent than him. Which is a very scary prospect for America.
Sadly that’s incorrect. The three branches of government are executive (President, Democrat), legislative (Senate AND Representatives=Congress, currently split, potentially 50/50 with a Democrat casting vote if both Tuesday results go blue), and judicial (Supreme Court appointed judges, Republican).
The judicial branch will stay GOP controlled for decades because of the number and youth of the Trump nominees. The only way to overturn this veto on progressive legislation is for Biden to nominate a similar number of liberal judges. This could spark a war of new appointees every time a new president comes in and descend the system (either further) into farce. I’m not sure if Biden is that kind of politician.
The legislative branch is likely to be problematic for Biden too, even if both Tuesdays senate races go in his favour. In this scenario it’s a 50/50 split in the senate, but there’s enough ‘corporate Democrats’ who could vote against legislation that they see as going against their interests or the interests of the billionaires that fund their campaigns. This is where overturning the Paris climate control accord or rejigging Obamacare might come unstuck, even before the Supreme Court dinosaurs get involved in picking over the bones.
The mindset of the Trump supporters is to deride everyone who stands up to him as a traitor or communist. And, just so you know, we live in a communist country as defined by one social media post I saw. Apparently, banning citizens from owning assault rifles is the mark of a commie pinko state.
These people are nuts.
there's also been some discussion about changing the legislation for tenure of supreme court judges, a suggestion was 18 years, which would immediate remove a number of the longer tenured judges, and put a couple more on short time remaining.
this was suggested as a means to stop a single president being able to load the Supreme Court towards their party for decades.
I really hope this nut job is prosecuted if she follows through with her promise.

The big problem that he has is that by saying the amount of votes he needs (what he lost by plus one) it'll be difficult to argue that he wanted a fair recount as opposed to just the right amount of "votes" to be found. Been engrossed in US news networks about this and even if he tries to pardon himself it wouldn't stop a federal investigation at this level apparently.
In other words, best pack your toothbrush Donnie :greengrin
Looks like the Democrats are going to take both of the GA senate seats in the runoff’s.
Wow.
It’s an interesting one - it’s been so close it goes to show how wildly divided post Trump America is. I think we may see a lot of Republicans ditch Trump now, he’s now toxic if you don’t expect a Don Jr/Ivanka run further down the line.
If they believe Trumpism is the future of the Republican Party then do we see the whole damaging “mass fraud” narrative continue?
Warnock's seat called.

This is massive news for the democrats.[emoji106] Gives Biden a real chance of getting things done. I can see the republicans tearing their party apart now as the fighting starts over who’s to blame.
Have to say, Biden for all his faults has delivered everything that the democrats dreamed of.

Tremendous news. It will still be tough to pass some of the legislation around climate change, affordable care and stimulus cheques, Bernie Sanders to chair the Senate Budget Committee is a particular corker:top marks
Yeah hardly gives them a super majority does it!
But it does give Biden half a chance to get through some of his agenda.
Hard to imagine after the last few years but of the Senate can somehow recover some of its bi-partisanship they might actually be able to craft some legislation that they can agree on.
Seems daft even writing that but ultimately that is what the whole premise of their governing structure is based on...the long trend of polarisation, accelerated to the max under Trump, does them no favours in the end.
Either way seeing the Trumpist GOP taking another beating is pleasing and will hopefully lead to them turning away from his, and his acolytes, rhetoric.
It was based initially on latest BBC report at the time I posted, think in the US there was a mix of outlets calling Warnock and others holding off. CNN right now still has Perdue/Ossoff as too close to call and numbers would suggest caution over calling Ossoff yet, but hopefully not too long before he gets over the line
I think the major news outlets are trying to hold off to maintain viewership. Ossoff leads by .4% with 55k mail ins to come. I can see why they do it but all the maths election geeks, Dave Wasserman for example, called it a while ago.
Can’t remember him being wrong but hopefully get a definitive answer on that one soon.
No doubt Trump will come out and day he won it was rigged This Charade getting tiresome but those that turn up on mass with no masks to his last rally calls could well end up literally paying with Thier lives for the Cause
He doesn’t give a ****

Big danger is that a Trump could run independently from the Republican party and effectively kill off their chances.
The right would be split down the middle between the Republican and Trump candidates allowing the Dems to win without breaking sweat.
Trump would have been called out and ditched ages ago by the likes of Graham and McConnell but their party has been taken over by a gangster family and their cult like followers.
Trump back to claiming voter fraud on this one already, and saying how votes were "found" lying about. Just tweeted "Even Mexico has voter ID".
"Even" Mexico.
you see what you've done Trump..you see
Anyone else listening to this gimp live in Washington? He's basically calling for an uprising.
Stacey Abrams, queen of the Dems, take a bow hen.

Has the other Georgia seat been called?
Lifted from Twitter,
" President Trump: “If Mike Pence does the right thing, we win the election" "
Also has said at the rally that "Pence has to come through" for them.
Pence is about to be thrown to the lions it appears.
Edit: Further Trump quote on Pence - "Of course, if he doesn’t come through, I won’t like him quite as much.”"
Joint session of Congress to certify the presidential election result just getting underway.
NEW: VP Pence will not object to the electoral college votes for Joe Biden:
“It is my considered judgement my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted.”

Pence refusing to do what Trump wants.
Republicans in congress immediately sabotage the process, raising objections to the result in Arizona, which must now be debated. The verification process is usually just a formality, a piece of theatre, but Republicans are determined to flog this dead horse until the final moment.

Absolute scenes at Capitol Hill just now.
Trump supporters trying to storm congress. Unbelievable.
Blue lives matter.
I just seen a twitter vid that appeared to show them using a blue lives matter flag to attack police
The irony is astounding

Mike Pence, presiding over the Senate debate, has been evacuated for his own safety, with Trump supporters literally trying to break down the doors on Capitol Hill.
' The Senate is paused and an aide interrupts Sen. Lankford to tell him "protestors are in the building." '
