Lived amongst it for decades, loads of really knowledgeable football fans down here, sound folk but whether it's cricket, rugby, lionesses or finals like tonight you don't half get a sizeable amount of bellends who are just there to be loud, nationalistic and in some cases pretty aggressive, thankfully they only surface infrequently and a defeat finishes them off for a while.

**** all this chat with Kane and Southgate. Can someone get hold of Starmer to clarify when we’re getting this bank holiday?
Gareth Southgate is a decent bloke :agree:
What's the difference between football and Lassie?
Lassie came home!
Think I'll have a wee dram. Been saving a single malt
I'd agree with that, a hell of a lot does tend to fall for them. Even when there's seeding the top seeds seem to end up in the other half from England.
Handy though or we would miss out on the hype before the crushing defeat

Apart from a worldie Bellingham was rotten, Kane too. They did turn up or play to their strengths. Playing defensive against Spain meant only one outcome. Found Spain pretty easy at Hampden too 🙈
Love Spain :greengrin
Massive relief but still feel a bit gutted for most of the players who come across as proper nice lads. Also, I’m watching ITV and it’s been very refreshing for a change. All of them saying they done well to get there but the better team won on the night. Nevill is one of the most balanced commentators around at the moment.
Keep on writing the script Jude!
Anyone got any tips for the well done England euro champions handicap chase at 4:15 at Newton Abbott tomorrow?

The only reason I'm slightly dissapointed is that I had Spain to win 3-1 but I can live with that. Thought Olmo should've done better with the chance he had but for me he was one of the best players for Spain tonight.
Vam-****ing-os
Whether he is the best coach in the world or not he has done an absolutely amazing job of bringing them all together. Seems an incredibly decent person also particularly around the bollox after the Italy penalty shootout. He should leave now get millions from a job in Saudi and spend the rest of his life in the Caribbean
They surely can’t get an easier run to a semi/final than that
Yamal turned 17 yesterday. Please tell me that was his wee brother he was carrying round there.😂😂😂
Lovin' it [emoji16]

Have the Scots started on the "We beat Spain 2:0 so we are the real European Champions"
You still hear Scots droning on about 2:3 in 1967.
A very refreshing win for football tonight though with front foot attacking football with 2 young wingers and the magnificent Danny Olmo.
Love it, Vamos!
England might have been runners up but they weren't the second best team in the tournament, for me.
There is a Sky-Sports-centric view of their squad and it's an overrated one. There are some good players, no doubt, but it's nowhere near as good as the English would have you believe. It's packed with players who are no better than their European counterparts and it's been proven time and time again. Even their golden generation, good players definitely, but world class and so far out in front of the competition, not a chance.
Spain were easily the better team tonight and across the tournament. England have had some amazing fortune across the last month and I'm not sure they'll ever have an easier draw, although I thought that at the last Euros. Their media, pundits and some of their fans would have been insufferable so I'm pleased. I'm also in Spain this week so hopefully the locals are cheerier!
That **** for that.
Delighted they lost but strangely gutted for Gareth Southgate, who is a very likeable man and someone you can’t help but root for when he’s got the ugliest aspect of Englishness on his back.
They’ve got some top notch players and there’s a growing feeling of inevitability that it’s going to come home sometime soon but if we can keep kicking that can down the road 2 years at a time then I’m happy enough.
It arguably didn’t help them getting Narnia, Ramsay Street and Vatican City before playing a proper team in the final, but it’s impossible to argue that the best team from the very start of the finals didn’t win.
Absolutely delighted. Arrogant entitled twats put in their place. Well done Spain.
Absolutely anyone but England. Now and Forever.
Just got home, better team won and I'm happy about that. Decided to sit in the England block and wasn't disappointed.
Copa America final delayed due to trouble outside (apparently)
Folk being herded in 90 degree heat and kept there for hours
Seems shambolic

It’s been complete chaos outside the stadium, thousands broke through the gates. They ended up not checking tickets and let people in until the stadium was full, probably over crowded now.
It's been a great game so far, no useless possession just 2 teams that think they're better trying to score.
All agreed Messi is the greatest ever player now right?
England had the easiest route to
a final any team has ever had in the Euros and even then they struggled to get there.
Beyond any form of doubt after the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The longevity of his career, the silverware in his cabinet and the goals, assists, and everything else in between speak for itself. A truly magnificent footballer who has adapted his game unbelievably with age/pace dipping off. Seven Ballon D’Ors in an era shared with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi, Modric, Mbappe, Haaland, David Villa, Luis Suarez, Robben, Kroos, Lahm, Neuer, Schwienstieger, Neymar…the list goes on.
Don’t think we will ever see anyone as great as Lionel Messi again.
It was beyond doubt even if he hadn't won the world cup imo. That was just the icing on the cake. The fact managed to roll back the years in Qatar just proved even further how much he's on a different level to anyone else. I've never seen anything like Messi in that period between 2010 and 2013.

Not a fan of the greatest ever player debate purely because what makes a striker world class isn’t what makes a full back or any other position world class, and the debate is always dominated by attacking players. Ends up leaving out generational talents like Maldini, Beckenbauer and Brian Kerr

Diego Armando Maradona.
The end.
Absolutely impossible to compare players of different generations, so many metrics have changed over the last 20 years let alone the last 50 years.
All these greats should be left as they are and revered by the people who want to have them on the pedestal :agree:
I just don’t get why people get so annoyed if you disagree with them on who the best was. It’s not an actual competition, it’s just opinions.
Nobody gets so angry when someone has a different best film or best song, but dare to say Ronaldo is the best and folk lose their **** 😂
I used to think it was a stupid discussion and a waste of time comparing the greatest, until Messi did what he did consistently for 20 years. Hopefully he gets bettered one as I'm sure he will.
Would football coming home not mean it would come to Scotland?
In case anyone hasn’t seen the 4.15 at Newton Abbot today..

I’ve got a humungous, massive chip on my shoulder when it comes to stuff like this and I’m not in the least bit ashamed. Quite the opposite.
How can you choose between all those greats, Ronaldo, Messi, Maradona, Pele and my personal favourite Best. Not forgetting, Eusebio, Puskas etc.
I'm responding to the post claiming '30 million England fans switched on their TVs arrogantly assuming they'd win'.
Like Marinello I just don't see that from present day England fans, at least not any I know and, as you suggest, I think it's really only a minority of Scots who try to cling on to that.
You couldn't really find a less arrogant manager than Southgate despite the fact he must (statistically) be England's most successful boss. Maybe he could have done even better but successive Euros finals is good going. The 'he can't beat better teams/gets lucky draws' stuff doesn't really wash. There are only a handful of better sides than England so he's hardly likely to be drawn against them every round. You can only beat what's in front of you and he does that with impressive consistency. Suspect he'll bow out now tho.
Anyone who remembers Argentina 78 will know true hubris. Yes we were (on paper) a decent side but Ally Macleod claiming we were going to win the World Cup was only setting us up for a fall.
Brazilian Ronaldo was the best for me. An utter monster of a player. A freak of nature. It's all subjective though.
Sam Allardyce talking absolute nonsense on SSN
Apparently getting to a final was a bonus and England do really well with a small talent pool
Baffling

Now that Spain have won euro 24 when can we expect Steve Clarke to come out of hiding and give us his thoughts on Scotland's forth coming international matches?
Indeed, the fanboys of players who throw wee tantrums when someone dares to offer a different opinion, or god forbid praises a different player, are a cringey embarrassment to modern football.
For what it's worth, no player has excited me like Maradona. Does that mean I write off Messi's achievements (or Ronaldo's for that matter)?. Of course not. I never saw Pele other than some clips on YouTube. So I can't comment on him or others like Cruyff, Best, Eusebio, Di Stefano etc. And as others have mentioned, it only ever seems to be attacking players who are mentioned in these debates.
Diego is my favourite ever footballer but I can still appreciate others and their astonishing achievements and statistics and the fact that many many people prefer them. Different players in different eras. That's it.
Scotland and England are in kind of similar situations when it comes to their managers... both have admirable records at getting as far as they have in recent years, both are particularly negative, and huge questions should be asked as to whether or not they're getting as much as possible out of the squads at their disposal.
Re England and arrogance - if I had a squad of players with that level of ability I'd be pretty bloody arrogant, I'd be expecting to win the tournament and expecting to win it playing well. It's a very vintage English problem though - struggling to accommodate all the best players into a cohesive team and massive loyalty to certain players who may no longer be the best option in their position. Some of the more peripheral players in the squad look to be more likely to fit into a strong, attacking team than some of the starters.
Scotland have many weak positions and a couple of strong ones whereas England - for such a strong squad overall - look to have a couple of real Achilles heels that they're yet to find an adequate solution for. That said, once more they're a bawhair off winning stuff so they're not far away.
A bit like Hibs and Jack Ross, they've got a dilemma - do they show loyalty to the guy who has a track record of getting them so close in the hope he just manages to push them that little bit further or do they gamble on a different approach? Tough one.
I think if England are wise they'd stick with Southgate for next tournament . Much the same as I think Scotland should stick with Clarke .
Potter is favourite for the England Job and I've seen quite a few had mentioned they'd like Mcinnes for the Scotland job .
My question is... Are either of these any better than they already have ? 🤔
Southgate was the highest paid manager at the Euros.
Not having that he’s off more than he’s on and majority of the squad picks itself, he’s played guys who where struggling all the way through the tournament, took 1 injured left back when he’s had 26 slots to fill, took a handful of centre mids and played a RB there first 2 games, any good manager wins that for England imo they have an incredible team on paper and probably should be celebrating retaining the tournament rather than messing up for the 2nd time
